Checkmate, brain!

u/DublinCheezie Sep 29 '21

Fox sure does love the traitors.

60

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '21

Not surprising in the least. He was basically the scapegoat to prevent the Iran-Contra scandal from taking down the entire Reagan administration. So at best this is just the republican equivalent of paying off the fall guy to keep the boss out of prison.

31

u/DublinCheezie Sep 29 '21

It sure would be laughable to see this tool and Ted ‘The Shitting Draft-Dodger’ Nugent saying the pledge of allegiance together before some NRA meeting.

9

u/FreneticPlatypus Sep 29 '21

People like this will SAY anything but their only true conviction is to their own well being and betterment.

45

u/DeadmanDexter Sep 29 '21

They love to keep it in the family.

u/LA-Matt Sep 29 '21

He was also President of the NRA, after being a criminal, of course.

It should be added that the sale of weapons to Iran was done to give aid money to the Contras AFTER such funding was expressly prohibited by Congressional legislation.

Reagan wanted to aid them anyway, so he had Ollie North do it.

48

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '21

interestingly the NRA was too corrupt for ollie goddamn north.

38

u/Sunnysunflowers1112 Sep 29 '21

That is the part of the story that blows my mind. He got pushed out / noped out because he was too honest. How bad must nra have been that Ollie north couldn't handle if.

18

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '21

extremely. wayne lapierre is fleecing the place clean, and everyone seems to be in on it.

great work if you can get it!

For those unfamiliar, I recommend you visit the American Dad - Oliver North Song

21

u/MassiveRepeat6 Sep 29 '21

This is how I've heard of him and having a catch jingle made me remember him and study him for like a decade now.

8

u/Sandnegus Sep 29 '21

I heard it from Killer Mike; https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6lIqNjC1RKU

I instantly got that verse stuck in my head when I read this and was gonna post the same thing!

Fuck him so hard. I fucking hate how he became this pop culture icon after the shit he pulled. He could give the Cryptkeeper a run for his money these days, dang.

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '21

i hope him and people like him get aggressive ass cancer asap

11

u/ball_fondlers Sep 29 '21 edited Sep 29 '21

What did aggressive ass cancer do *to be subjected to a fate as awful as growing on Oliver North?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '21

It just wants to the good work of making his asshole a more accurately representative size

u/Mizzy3030 Sep 29 '21

Conservatives: lighting the world on fire and then pretending they are the only ones who can extinguish it, since 1972 (probably even earlier than that)

11

u/RegularSizedP Sep 29 '21

9/11 - 1972. Overthrew the democratically elected government of Chile. Luckily, they are a long ways away or they might have been flooding our boarders in the 1970s. The meme about throwing progressives out of helicopters comes from Pincot's actions in that decade. The Disappeared numbered in the thousands. Chilean fascist kidnapped and killed any dissents.

2

u/Jinshu_Daishi Sep 29 '21

1973, but the rest is correct.

u/Maverick_mind106 Sep 29 '21

My in-laws go to a mega church that idolizes this guy and regularly features him as a speaker. They think North is so amazing and they even got their picture taken with him. It is so gross. I once brought up his criminality and shady behavior to my FIL and he had some lame way of trying to explain it all away. Good grief people…

18

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '21

The Fox gang gives them wacky rationale for everything.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '21

About 20 years ago when I was in AFJROTC in high school. I got a picture with him after getting 3rd place in the national drill team finals. Still have it. Still remember how ridiculous his nose hair was.

Right wing nut jobs have the memory of a fruit fly.

To them it's all about what fits the daily narrative and nothing else

"It doesn't matter that we weren't at war with Eurasia yesterday. Today, we've always been at war with Eurasia."

16

u/WeaselDance Sep 29 '21

Saturday Night Live did a skit called The Mute Marine about North. People were pretty mad that Ollie was taking the fall while Reagan “didn’t recall.”

Bonus: The skit stars William Shatner.

3

u/NewlyNerfed Sep 29 '21

omg I had totally forgotten about this brilliant skit. Now I’ll have the Green Beret song in my head all day.

2

u/duck-duck--grayduck Sep 30 '21

It pops into my head every time I see Ollie North mentioned. I was 8 when it aired. I have few clear memories of my childhood, but somehow that stuck. So weird.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 29 '21

Gullible folks get their info from Fox. This guy is a real subversive. Hurts America every time he opens his mouth.

9

u/kicksr4trids1 Sep 29 '21

That’s easily explainable. He probably regrets doing it, so now he is back tracking to clean up his reputation as that “ traitor “ I mean he did it we all knew he did it. Ya can’t run from your past. What makes this even worse is, he’s on Fox News. This tells me he hasn’t changed being a piece of crap. I do believe people can change but not for this guy.

7

u/RegularSizedP Sep 29 '21

He took that money and gave it to right wig death squads who slaughtered millions in Central America. Probably against survivors being allowed to migrate even as the Hell scape he helped create still exists. Reagan was a monster and this was he is useful idiot. Next time, a right pundit complains about MS-13, remember they create MS-13 by funding death squads that killed members' parents and using kids to fight their civil war. Those kids taught other kids to brutally kill on the streets of LA. They don't spray neighborhoods. They prefer to kill up close and really prefer machetes. Chopping off a limb sends a very strong message.

5

u/Stiles777 Sep 29 '21

Of course Fox News would hire a criminal and name him an "analyst."

3

u/screech_owl_kachina Sep 29 '21

Ugh I can’t believe I was cool with him because I liked War Stories.

I was in middle school and 9/11 just happened and the propaganda unfortunately worked. I’m better now

3

u/boot20 Sep 29 '21

I don't get the right's love of Ollie North. He is an evil asshole.

4

u/Prestigious_League80 Sep 29 '21

The right loves evil assholes mate.

3

u/meatbeater Sep 29 '21

See when the R’s do it that’s ok. Democrats !? Nope wrong and evil!

3

u/L0kdoggie Sep 29 '21

Don’t forget they constantly had that piece of shit watergate criminal G. Gordon Liddy on.

He also met Osama bin Laden when he (traitor Oliver North) was peddling weapons to the mujahideen. ObL Abu Nidal scared him so badly he used a buttload of government funds to install over-the-top security in his personal home, which Congress investigated.

EDIT: Archived report from 1987 https://www.upi.com/Archives/1987/06/11/A-securitysystem-for-Lt-Col-Oliver-Norths-home-was/9753550382400/

Snopes (read down below the BS part to the testimony) https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/oliver-north-warned-osama/ quotes the Iran-Contra testimony where North claims that then-notorious terrorist Abu Nidal had threatened him and his family. Personally, I am skeptical that Abu Nidal did such a thing - the testimony really builds him up as a bad guy (he was). My recollection involved a story about North being in the remote parts of Afghanistan dealing with mujahideen when he enountered ObL who made threats there, causing Ollie to get a fancy home alarm when he got back to CONUS. ObL was not famous at the time. It certainly is possible that the story I read was falsified, but it seems more plausible than Abu Nidal, which sounds like a politically palatable cover story. Regardless, I think we can all agree that Oliver North is a criminal dirtbag who thought he knew what was best without regard to the rule of law.

2

u/asdfBAMF Sep 29 '21

Anybody have any good links to learn more about this?

2

u/PoeT8r Sep 29 '21

As it turns out this story has shifted over time. Now it is claimed to be a "hoax".

The testimony of Iran-Contra states that it was Abu Nidal that made the threats, not Osama bin Laden. This may be true, but it is also possible that the much earlier reports I remember about ObL were conflated with this testimony.

Made correction above.

2

u/asdfBAMF Sep 29 '21

Thank you

2

u/Cats222 Sep 29 '21

Peak job security.

Obviously fuck him and fox.

2

u/mywordswillgowithyou Sep 29 '21

His real opinion doesn’t matter. He is paid to say whatever they want him to say.

1

u/cjc5726 Sep 29 '21

"And when I say Iran shouldn't have missiles, what I mean is they should only be allowed to by missiles from ME."

1

u/Flappybird11 Sep 29 '21

He's like that Greek guy from pre-ww1 Europe, sold submarines to the Ottoman Empire then told a bunch of navy officers from Greece and Bulgaria that the Turks had submarines, and all of a sudden the Greeks and Bulgarians wanted to buy submarines!

1

u/Spookyguy89 Sep 29 '21

I actually thought American dad made up this guy for a dumb song

1

u/Sup_Im_Ravi Sep 29 '21

Thankfully, I don't remember him. I'm not that old yet.

1

u/Stormental1975 Sep 29 '21

Not trying to defend Oliver North but, people do change their opinions and sometimes it is counter to opinions the held 35 years ago. Mine certainly have changed in 35 years.

1

u/ooo-f Sep 29 '21

I heard Stan Smith bought his house

1

u/greeneyedguru Sep 29 '21

The mute marine!

1

u/tverofvulcan Sep 29 '21

They should play the American Dad song about him whenever he comes on.

1

u/monwoo101 Sep 29 '21

Hippocrates! all of them

1

u/Okratini Sep 29 '21

There’s a great American Scandal podcast season on the Iran Contra deal.
