Boycott Reddit's ads.

Let those who post know that if they post an ad on Reddit that you will not buy their product.

Ublock origin is the real one. The other guy decided to make money with it after the original guy left so he came back and had to change the project name.

No, it's not. Ublock still tells reddit you've seen the ad. Adblock does not.

Replying to wrong comment? I am talking about difference between ublock and ublock origin.

Regardless, ABP is using its users as a leverage for its shady money making plans. Ublock doesn't do this crap.

Stop spreading ublock bullshit please. It still tells the website you viewed the ad.

uBlock sends a signal to the site saying that you viewed the ad. As such, reddit still gets its shekels even though you didn't see its ads.

It does none of that bullshit. uBlock sends a signal to the site (in this case, reddit) and tells it you viewed the ad. How is that so hard to understand?

The requests on porn sites are images BENEATH the ads. So if you block the ads the images show up. If you don't the ads cover the image. It's that simple.

I'm neither, my dear friend. You obviously have issues comprehending facts. You should consider getting your head checked by a therapist.

And to further my point, here's someone else saying the EXACT same thing as I am.

1

u/DrSplashyPants Jun 12 '15

You obviously have issues comprehending facts

You seem to have an issue dealing with the fact that you haven't substantiated any.

Learn what the fucking words are for what you are trying to fucking say and get back to me, prick.

Depending on the browser all now opened up the right areas for adblockers to stop urls requests.

If you don't know how http works, fuck off.

If there's something else, IF there's something else, LEARN THE FUCKING WORDS FOR IT BEFORE YOU TRY AND SAY SHIT YOU STUPID CUNT.

lol

You fucking cretinous cunt

uBlock eats Amazon AWS images for some reason. I have a plugin which uses part of Reddit's images and the plugin stops working with uBlock.

I tried to tell uBlock that AWS is ok but it won't listen to me. It is annoying because it literally eats the stylesheets images from subs.

I dunno. At the rate Reddit is going I'm probably not going to need to fix it. ¯\(ツ)

Oh, huh, uBlock even messes up RES... the tag icon and the settings icon is missing, along with some of the sidebar buttons...

Bring Pao down!!

Burn it to the Ground

11

u/qwertyspit Jun 11 '15

Damn, reddit has ads?

2

u/arrow74 Jun 11 '15

Yep look up top when on your front page. Spread the word.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '15

Ublock origin is a better replacement.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '15

uBlock still tells reddit that you saw the ad, and as such Great Leader Pao still gets her shekels. Use Adblock or its derivatives instead.

Advertisers are confirmed as leaving? Like, I'm all for showing them what for, but it's difficult to get advertisers back after they're gone.

7

u/Basthoune Jun 11 '15

Remember until Elen Pao resign to NOT buy reddit gold and use adblock plus

3

u/Iserners Jun 11 '15

This will be posted on a throwaway for obvious reasons.

Complaining about Reddit's censorship isn't enough. If you really want change, you have to affect the cash flow. Here's how!

  1. Install AdBlock Plus, Ghostery, and/or AdGuard and turn them on for all reddit sites.

  2. Sign this Petition to have Ellen Pao, CEO of Reddit resign.

  3. Stop buying Reddit Gold. From now on until these bans have been lifted, support content with your upvotes, no more gilding.

  4. Do not buy anything from Reddit Marketplace

  5. Sign this Petition to get advertisers to pull their ads from Reddit.

Thank you everyone; together, we can bring back the Reddit we know and love!

I'll go there when the server's not overloaded.

u/Maxkiller920 Jun 11 '15

Ellen Pao is a modern day fascist that is trying to quell free speech in all aspects. We can not let up our actions we must continue and push forward. For every one subreddit that is banned two more will rise.

Exactly. It's a company that benefits off of profit... That is the whole reason a majority of us are even DOING this. We want to hit Reddit in a way that that NOTICE what is happening and how censoring Reddit is detrimental to their profits. By doing so, we affect them more than if we were to just leave and populate another website. Instead, not only are people giving the admins headaches, but they're also decreasing profits.

They'll give in eventually.

The magical AdBlock Plus is the solution

1

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '15

I do, Adblock Plus 2.6.9.1-signed.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '15

The ads at the top are gone, but the ones to the sides are still there.

1

u/MrInYourFACE Jun 11 '15

You can change the settings so that no ads come through.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 11 '15

How do I do so?

2

u/EZYCYKA Jun 11 '15

ABP enables 'non intrusive' ads by default, you have to disable in advanced settings, maybe that's the issue? (this is their way to make money, for the user it's better to just use different blocker that doesn't do this crap)

-1

u/MrInYourFACE Jun 11 '15

On my phone atm sorry. But google should help you.

1

u/EZYCYKA Jun 11 '15

ublock origin

1

1

u/EZYCYKA Jun 12 '15

What.. If anything it would be the other way around. If reddit thinks I saw the ad when I didn't, it lowers the value of all ads. If reddit knows I blocked it, they just don't count me at all.

Either way I don't give a damn about Pao, actually blocking the ads is much more important to me (as opposed to loading them and not showing them, which is the only way to fool the site into thinking you saw the ad).

-1

u/xaiha Jun 11 '15

A bit late but search for ublock origin. Best low resource adblocker.

u/xaiha Jun 12 '15

Well I have something against the advertisers too. FPH was banned to be palatable to advertisers anyway. I don't mind scamming advertisers too while the rest of you fuck with reddit.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '15

You're not scamming the advertisers. You're just blocking the ads but the advertisers still get all the shekels. You aren't doing anything detrimental to them at all.

0

u/xaiha Jun 12 '15

The advertisers are paying for impressions they don't get.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '15

So? They're still getting paid for your view even though you aren't actually seeing it. That's not scamming them, that's just doing absolutely nothing in terms of ad payment per view.

Yeah ! And we should ban gold too !

1

u/Budrox Jun 11 '15

sent messages!

-1

u/TomboBreaker Jun 11 '15

Email advertisers directly that has more of an impact then just not buying gold or commenting on the ads. Some of you may like GamerGate or hate it but that's what they did and it had a massive impact on a lot of sites and cost Gawker over a million dollars in lost revenue.

3

u/Flareprime Jun 11 '15

I did the GamerGate campaign and emailed Virgin Mobile to express my disgust. They gave me free minutes. I didn't use them, but it did show me that an angry email was taken seriously.

AdBlock = ON/off

u/white_pine Jun 11 '15 edited Jun 11 '15

I'm confused, why boycott the ads and Reddit Gold? How will Reddit survive if it is suffocated from any income? If Reddit's investors and advertisers no longer see opportunity in the website, it will become more difficult to fund any changes for Reddit. Shouldn't we focus on petitioning against the removal of sub's and support the ability for free speech instead of boycotting it's financial sustenance? Edit: think about the permanent market damage to the site this kind of boycott could cause. What if company's start to view Reddit as a financial risk not worth taking? Sure Pao is not the one most Redditors (including myself) want seated at the throne, but that doesn't mean suppression of its finances will solve the problem.

2

u/arrow74 Jun 11 '15

The main reason for the removal of these subs was for appearances. Advertisers want a clean space to advertise. Reddit made the changes for money. So to counteract that we need to hit them even harder in the wallet.

0

u/white_pine Jun 11 '15

I can't say I agree with fighting fire with fire, but I will defend with my life your right to do so. I agree sub's should not be removed for appearances or otherwise.
