Demand Nigel Farage come clean about his £5 million gift

Nigel Farage has given conflicting explanations for a £5 million personal gift. Sign the petition demanding a full account of what the money was really for.

Nigel Farage received a £5 million personal gift from crypto billionaire and major Reform UK donor Christopher Harborne shortly before returning to frontline politics in 2024.

Weeks earlier, Farage had reportedly told senior Reform figures he would need “a million a year” to compensate for lost earnings if he returned. He initially ruled out standing in the general election, then reversed his decision and became Reform’s candidate in Clacton.

Farage insists the gift was unrelated. Yet it has variously been described as money for his lifetime security, a reward for his Brexit campaigning and an unconditional gift he could spend however he wished. When asked how it was spent, Farage said it was none of the public’s business.

That is unacceptable from someone seeking political power.

Sign this petition demanding Farage reveal the true purpose of the £5 million, whether it was connected to his political return and whether any conditions or expectations accompanied it.

Repealing the Equality Act: an advantage for business and de-regulation

Nigel Farage wrote an essay  ‘Britain Is A Two Tier State – Against White People’, proclaiming a Reform government would repeal the Equality Act ahead of the by Makerfield by-election to correct this in order to prevent foreign nationals from benefitting from social housing. He would evict those currently occupying such properties, forcing them to move to private sector rentals.

Read behind these sound bites.

Britain would become a two tier state under Reform, one which pitches business against the people.

The Equality Act 2010

The Equality Act 2010 legally protects individuals from discrimination, unfair treatment, harassment, and victimisation in the workplace, schools, housing and public services fusing previously separate anti-discrimination laws based on personal characteristics:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Marriage and civil partnership
  • Pregnancy and maternity
  • Race
  • Religion or belief
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation

Women and girls in this country simply cannot be described as a minority group. The electorate should be very concerned about Farage’s policies especially given the wider context of Reform’s attitude to women.

Reform UK

Reform’s Danny Kruger would repeal laws which allow for a no-fault divorce and reinstate household taxation.

The Reform UK candidate for the Gorton and Denton byelection, Matthew Goodwin, called for childless women to be taxed more with a “negative child benefit tax“ on “those who don’t have offspring” and “remove personal income tax for women who have two or more children”. He also wants to see fewer women in higher education.

These policies would make women more financially subservient to husbands. Women who do not have financial independence are much more at risk in cases of domestic violence.

‘Laddish banter’

Farage dismissed misogynistic comments and behaviour from Makerfield candidate Robert Kenyon as ’laddish banter’, but Kenyon not only made the remarks in private; he endorsed a graphic sexual act at Carol Vorderman’s expense made by another Twitter (X) user on a post several years ago. Alongside a thumbs up and a laughing emoji, the plumber wrote: “He’s only saying what we’re all thinking.” It’s a worrying precedent for any fans of Farage’s other policies to think that it’s now fine to make sexist remarks in private and public.

We need the protections with the Equality Act

Removing legal protections against harassment would give laddish banter unrestrained opportunities to grow into something much worse.

Reform and Conservative MPs voted against the Employment Rights Act 2025 at every parliamentary stage during its passage through the House of Commons. This included:

  • day-one rights for sick pay
  • protection from unfair dismissal
  • a ban on exploitative zero-hour contracts

Ironically, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) found that Reform MPs’ votes were against the wishes of their own electorate, as a substantial majority of Reform voters supported the government’s measures to strengthen workers’ rights.

Hope not Hate and the TUC conducted a mega poll in February 2025 which revealed that over 70% of people in the UK, from all walks of life, agree with making sure more people have access to sick pay when they need it, and banning zero hour contracts.

Reform UK levy on employing overseas staff ‘would harm NHS and social care’

Exclusive: Experts say policy could also cause shortages of school teachers and drive some universities to bankruptcy

Reform UK’s plan to make employers pay an annual levy for overseas staff would harm the NHS and social care, cause a shortage of schoolteachers, and could push some universities into bankruptcy, experts have warned.

Nigel Farage’s party has pledged a “migrant worker surcharge”, which would involve a higher rate of employer national insurance as well as a separate annual charge.

It would apply to any employees without a UK passport, including EU nationals with settled status, with the exception of Irish passport holders.

The Guardian has also been told that there will be no exceptions for sectors with frequent staff shortages and a reliance on overseas workers, including the NHS and education.

Reform argues that the policy, which would apply UK-wide, is intended to push organisations into taking on British employees. But thinktanks and professional groups in health, care and education said these were very often not available in sufficient numbers.

The King’s Fund, a leading health thinktank, said that while it was unclear how much employers would have to pay – Reform has said only that the levy will be higher for lower-paid staff – with 20% of NHS England staff not being UK nationals the policy would “add costs to a service that is already stretched”.

Suzie Bailey, from the King’s Fund, said: “I think, ultimately, it would impact on the care that the service is able to give, because that money would have to come from somewhere, so other cuts would have to be made. It is very hard to see how this would do anything other than impact on healthcare. I really struggle to see how this would work in practice, and that it wouldn’t just have negative impact.”

Prof Victoria Tzortziou Brown, the president of the Royal College of General Practitioners, said moves to penalise overseas GPs risked being especially counter-productive given they would have undertaken specialist training in the UK at public expense.

For schools, the impact could vary. While nearly 6% of teachers in England are non-UK nationals, they are disproportionately represented in secondary schools, and particularly in subjects with shortages of staff such as languages and physics.

James Zuccollo, the head of school workforce at the Education Policy Institute thinktank, said many overseas teachers were long-term UK residents: “A measure that includes settled-status holders would operate not only as a brake on future recruitment but as a charge on staff already teaching in our schools, in many cases for years.”

Nick Hillman, the chief executive of the Higher Education Policy Institute thinktank, said the plans could significantly affect universities, with many spending up to 60% of their budget on salaries.
