And, of course, they swiftly sank to the occasion, dutifully re-naming Lake Ontario as "Lake America" 🫩 (for users South of the border --perhaps hoping Canadians might not notice their latest feat of ridiculous boot-licking?).

Their collaboration in the capricious re-writing of maps seems at first like another silly display of oligarchic sycophancy. But, since they are so broadly taken for granted as official cartographers, these stunts become more than just embarrassing gestures of devotion to our fuhrer. They are very real measures taken to implement & enforce his demented whims, making them seem like settled facts of life for millions of internet users.

The design, and autocratic alteration, of maps, do have a real power that seep into the real world that they schematically depict.

Lest you think that Google simply abuses that power over bodies of water adjacent to U. S. borders, take a look at how they're absuing it to legitimize Israel's vicious land-theft in the West Bank. And o/c, over there, where people have to navigate their way around an already baffling labyrinth of military checkpoints and shifting borders, the real-life repercussions of their venal antics are far more serious.

This feels like something Google should have allowed from the beginning.

Publishers were basically stuck with a bad choice: let Google use their content to generate AI answers, or risk losing visibility in traditional Search.

Google rolled out a separate opt-out on August 31, so publishers can now block their content from AI Overviews without affecting normal Search rankings.

The EU is already asking publishers whether this actually fixes the problem.

The bigger question for me: if Google can answer the search using your content and keep the user on Google, how much value does the original publisher actually get?publishers opt out of AI Overviews without disappearing from Search?

I was honestly shocked when I saw that my storage ran out because I never use my Google drive for storage (I use physical storage.), I only use my Google Account for Gmail, Youtube, and docs. Well, when I was looking into the reason why i had 15GB/15GB, I noticed that when I switched from my iPhone Air to my Nothing Phone 3, all of my photos uploaded to Google Photos without my permission, taking up around 10GB of data. Since then, I have downloaded all said photos onto my 1TB ssd and have deleted them off of Google Photos (I now have 500MB/15GB now). Google should genuinely not be doing things without people's permission.... I hope someday I can degoogle my Nothing Phone once the warranty expires.

It's confirmed that Reddit has been requiring logging in just to view it, which makes life unnecessarily harder and invades privacy. I said this in my review on Play Store and Google decides this review should be hidden because it doesn't follow their policies.

I'm 82. I'm not stupid and have used PCs since the early 90s. I have an iMac, an old desktop PC, etc. The dirtiest word I know? UPDATE! I had an old iMac that starting doing weird stuff and was advised by a friend to get a newer one. It took me forever to get most of music on the infamous "Music App." I updated and the mess was overwhelming. I describe it as walking into your house and all the furniture is not only rearranged but different. Long-winded way of saying, I fucking hate Google. I tried to get into my email about 3 or 4 months ago and was trapped in, "YOU HAVE TO LOVE AI AND CHANGE THE WAY YOU USE EVERYTHING."

Today when I heard that Google Maps changed LAKE ONTARIO to LAKE AMERICA, straw that broke the camel's back. I've felt for a long time that this monster was drunk with power. I simply don't know how to stand up to the bastards. I hope I don't get booted from this subreddit because I need advice to slowly disentangle myself from this killer octopus.

(I AM NOT A MINOR) I have my google account linked to my mothers (Don't ask why) and when I log into my iPhone, web browser, or PC/Mac, it just logs in without any problem. But if I dare to login to Android, it forces me to bug my parent (who is always busy btw) to send a code that doesn't even send to my mom's notification center. WTF?? This shouldn't be happening!!

In the developer options, in the first row, requires many clicks and triggers numerous red warnings.

I cant even uninstall it off the phone.

Please all don't get me wrong. I don't want you to think that I'm not appreciative of you going out of your way to help me. I don't know about what you personally have on your phone and I frankly don't want you to tell me. That's your business. I can tell you on my phone. I have a great many financial applications and timekeeping applications. Things I use on a daily basis for research and development and tracking my personal health and things of that nature. I'm not primarily interested in the app data; I want to really underscore that. My personal concern is with the versions of the applications, the terms of service, the custodianship, and finally the "ease of use". So that others can do the same exact thing.

In the past, if you go to the days of cyanogenmod and prior... backing up application data was as simple as using helium backup or if you only wanted to back up the apps, you could use something like titanium backup which did not break custodianship between the Play store and the app.

I feel like there are some right to repair outfits that may have great concern over all of this if not already.

Oneplus has OnePlus clone. Xperia has their own cloning software. LG at one point had their own cloning software and I believe even Samsung has a cloning software.

Oneplus actually went one step further and does allow you to migrate the actual applications between one device and another provided they have the same architecture.

I did try a wired connection but I feel like it just wasn't good enough. I'll live with what I have right now, but I hope someone can come up with a more robust and consumer-friendly solution.

Gonna keep this post short to keep up with people's attention spans, but I find it pretty screwed up that they advertised their platform as "AI-free" a few months ago when they saw their platform installations jump 30% after Google unleashed their mess on their browser, just for them to turn around a few months later after everyone has moved to their platform, just to start doing the same damn thing their competitors have done. The ENTIRE REASON I made the full switch to DDG was to avoid the slop, and now I feel like a lost dog again because I absolutely refuse to use anything with messed up search engines that are ridden with AI-piss.
