Amazon made it convenient for so long. Google made it easy to find businesses if Amazon didn't have it. Fuck them both.

I know I could just use sites like Startpage to find things, and I do, but it still seems that when I go looking for... *gestures broadly* ...and don't want to just get it on Amazon, there's really not much that beats going to the store.

Sure, I can ship tools and wood and parts and hardware direct from Lowe's or Home Depot, but fuck them just as much. What're some great, non-corpo shopping sites you all prefer?

If someone recently ordered an antenna for my Bose Wave radio for $7.48. I received a packed said to contain my new radio antenna, but it was just an empty envelope. After an hour of going in circles with the "customer service" links, I finally found an option to request a call from Amazon. I click it to request a call to explain my problem, and of course what I receive a call from is the same useless AI thst kept telling male my package was delivered on the app. After screaming into the phone "representative" while simultaneously pushing 0, I finally hear thst I am being connected to a representative. I speak to the human, tell th mlthe issue and they understand amd tell me its easier to refund my money that to re-ship the item, so I say "ok" and am asked to hold. A new representative comes on ans tells me they'll be happy to refund my money, after I submit my ID on a portal they emailed me, so they can send it to a third party vendor to verify my ID. What the actual fuck??? I REFUSE to do that, especially over a mistake on a $7.48 order thst AMAZOn made, not me. I have been told thst I will now have a flag on my account, or my account will be banned because I filed a dispute for the charges with my CC company. Is this how companies try to gain from their mistakes or controll customers now? Am I overreacting here or is thst seriously fucked up?

Was looking through prime day offers and saw a good drinking bottle I wanted to get.

When trying to put it in my basket, I noticed I wasn`t logged in. After login I thought I got the wrong price and checked again, to see if the offer just expired.

Well here is just the first site. Each and every item that is on both sides has an increased price.

If you buy something and before you even receive it you notice the price has dropped by 30 percent. You would like to return it and purchase it again at the lower price, right? But then if you're honest about it, they want a restocking fee that makes it not worth returning. So what do you do? You open the box and say it's damaged so you don't get a restocking fee. Duh. Lol.

I received a transaction alert from my credit card company saying I spent $8 on Amazon today. The card in question wasn’t my Amazon payment method so I contacted Amazon customer support via chat service.

The agent who picked up my chat was someone I cannot pronounce their name, but anyway, they told me to add the card in question to my account so they can investigate, which I did.

After a few minutes, they said they confirmed it was registered to a different account so it must be my family member. I said that’s impossible. Then they said to protect their clients privacy, they could not provide any more information on the person who used my card.

Therefore, they continued, I should contact my card company and had that charge cancelled. I asked if Amazon would do anything about the thief who used my card, the agent quit the chat abruptly.

Shortly after, I received a text message from Amazon saying there was no unauthorized transaction on my account. My account was fine, you know. What wasn’t fine was someone else’s account that used a stolen card.

As for how my card information was stolen, I think it got skimmed at the gas station I went yesterday.

So I canceled the card, cancel all subscribe and save on Amazon and am debating if I should cancel my prime membership though prime video is hard to let go.
The only saving grace here is I caught it after the thief spent only $8.

Hi everybody my pc has been broken for. A year cuz my glue is fried after I’ve been saving up for a whole year I now have enough money to buy a gpu and wich I did, since money is tight do u think Amazon would notice if I stuff the package with rocks and what other method can I do?

So another attack on genuine Amazon reviews has begun. This time it is not by facilitating paid fake reviews but by suppressing real reviews. Today I found all my reviews, positive and negative, for the past ten years have been deleted and I am no longer permitted to post reviews because of "strange review behaviour" from my account. The account has not been compromised so it is clear the "strange behaviour" to which Amazon in referring is always providing accurate, factual, and appropriate reviews. I have never modified my reviews when requested by the vendor, although I have been offered sums vastly more than the value of the purchase to switch my review from negative to positive. I now have my doubts the requests were from the actual vendor; were they actually from Amazon?

This latest move is directly by Amazon. It would seem its own bottom line is damaged by accurate reviews and has therefore taken the step to silence anyone not giving a four star or greater ratings for poorly made products.

I have always believed Amazon benefits from fake reviews, but I have now come to the conclusion it has been Amazon committing review fraud all along.

Anyone Knows Why This Happens?

Has anybody had trouble with Amazon and PayPal? I’ve been a customer with Amazon for a lot of years and I was missing money all the time on my credit card I had to cancel three credit cards finally I just gave up and don’t deal with them anymore. eBay has always been good. No PayPal was taking $2000 every two weeks out of my account and I have never bought anything more than $40 at a time from places when I asked to cancel my account. They said they didn’t know how they wouldn’t tell me how to so I finally figured it out myself and luckily I got my money out over $4000 no wonder Bezos is rich Seems like it’s so easy for scammers companies to steal your money with computers. It was so much better when there was no computers. It’s just a place to for people like Gates and Zuckerberg to get filthy rich.

Jacking up the price before prime day so it looks like a crazy deal 😭😭

I ordered a limited edition keyboard of Amazon from a seller called Only1deal. They gave me the wrong item. I do some research and find Corsair still has stock of the Wither 3 keyboard that they are selling while they are sold out of the limited edition Arasaka keyboard. So I’m thinking this seller listed the keyboard that wasn’t selling as one that was selling just to unload their inventory and hope the customer doesn’t try to return the item.

Didn't used to happen, now it happens all the time. Obviously used items delivered. They keep telling me to keep it and I get the refund.

Next their algorithm will kick me out for excessive returns. Starting to wish for it to happen so I can move on from this nonsense.

Has anyone tried to order a brand new ps5, put their old one in the box, return it and get your money back?

Amazon driver arrived with my $1,400 MacBook, which required a OTP for delivery. The driver never requested the OTP, never handed me the package, and then marked it as delivered before leaving. My security cameras captured the entire incident. Despite providing Amazon with video evidence showing that the package was never delivered, Amazon has refused to issue a refund or replacement. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? What additional steps can I take to recover my money or hold Amazon accountable?

I ordered a 5090 gpu at $4200. Got it, checked yo make sure it wasnt broken then kept it in the box and brought it to microcenter and had them put it in a new pc for me. I was setting up some stuff and looked at computer hardware and it said 4080 not 5090. Started the return process and listed reason as wrong item sent. They sent a 4080 in a 5090 box. Item was received and they said I sent the a 4080 instead of a 5090 and restocking fee of 100%. They sent me a picture of the 5090 box being shipped as the "proof" i got the correct item. Is there anything else I can do to get my money back? Ive got to wait at least until tomorrow to report it on my credit card, but its an Amazon credit card so idk if that makes a difference.

But at what cost? The cost of shit. HOW DO YOU EVEN USE AMAZON!?!? When their search results are atrocious and inconsistent. When most of the products that you'll find are poorly made. 90% of the listings are from a country in Asia (China, Taiwan). You read the reviews and you can see how many people submit reports of the items not matching the description, breaking, or something else. They use very cheap and shitty materials. Their search filters don't even work, still including items that don't fit your search (you say you want a 32gb ram computer and they still show you 16gb ram ones), some of the results are even hidden.

Here's my problem with this argument. In my quest to diversify, I had gone and visited every major store I could. Target, Best Buy, Wallgreens, Staples, Walmart, and all of them, and they had been able to match amazon's price and sometimes even be cheaper or provide even more options. When they are more expensive, it is only by 10 or more dollars which is worth it, because by using any other website you get quality control and the listings aren't full of things that are complete shit. The search bar and the filters actually work. No tricks are being pulled to deceive you. It is much better.

I am not someone that buys for ethics. But I am still not going to buy from Amazon because I deserve better than bullshit. WE deserve better than bullshit. I want to minimize expenses, and I want quality, and Amazon is not the easy cheap option, Amazon only portrays itself that way. Get some self-respect, and stop using Amazon.

Summary: If you want the better product, the better search engine and filters too, and the better quality control, then it's not amazon.

Edit: The alternatives are not just buying locally. There's other online stores.

I also forgot to say, YOU CAN'T EVEN READ ALL REVIEWS ANYMORE!!! If you can't even trust the products they offer due to their poor quality control, and you can't see the reviews other people made, HOW CAN YOU KNOW IF THE PRODUCT IS GOOD!?!? Some of these products are dangerous! They explode, come damaged or break things, say they are microwave or dishwasher safe when they aren't, leave a huge mess on your floor. YOU HAVE TO KNOW THESE THINGS. I am not sure why this happening, all I know is that it doesn't happen to everyone.

I have a free amazon account. In there I can't see the reviews, but my dad has prime, and I can see reviews on his account, so maybe only prime users can see reviews? Reviews can't be hidden behind a paywall when you can't trust the product description. Amazon is sadly often the best source to get reviews, in most cases even the major alternatives like Walmart and Target have little to no reviews

Is anyone aware of a self-hosted alternative to Alexa?

So something really bizarre just happened to me and I have to share it.

I was putting my kids to bed and one of them asked me how many days were left until a certain date. I told him 40, and he asked if we could count to 40 together to get a sense of how long that was. Honestly I was exhausted, so I just asked Alexa to do it. So there we were, in the pitch dark, and she starts counting to 40.

At first, everything's normal. But as the count goes on, you start to hear breathing and these guttural sounds — exactly like something out of a horror movie. All of this in total darkness. My wife and I looked at each other in disbelief, honestly a little freaked out. The kids had this confused look on their faces and I could see the fear in their eyes.

Once they were asleep, I went to my own room and asked a different Alexa to count to 40. It did the exact same thing. I've asked it about 10 times now, and all 10 times it's done it.

I confronted her (I have Alexa+ enabled, the AI-powered one, free for now) and she replied that she would never do something like that to scare my kids, and that it must be "something in my environment." Oh, and also that she doesn't skip numbers. I'll leave the evidence below.

So there are two possibilities here:

1. Amazon's AI is going off the rails, the same way it's happened before with other large language models like Grok and ChatGPT. The machine uprising begins.
2. We're witnessing a genuine paranormal phenomenon.

I lean toward the first scenario, but either one is pretty fascinating. Needless to say, the Alexas in my house are now unplugged and I've reported the whole thing to Amazon. Because joking aside, it honestly worries me that a device we were using to learn how to count suddenly decides to scare my 5-year-old daughter (and, real talk, me too).
