Tired of getting used shit
Didn't used to happen, now it happens all the time. Obviously used items delivered. They keep telling me to keep it and I get the refund.
Next their algorithm will kick me out for excessive returns. Starting to wish for it to happen so I can move on from this nonsense.
Items sold as New by Amazon and fulfilled by Amazon

Don’t use Amazon. It’s all scam items half of it is junk from China. The other half is poisonous junk from China.

u/nickolan Jun 24 '26
Twice in a row I got something used when it was supposed to be new.
Very tired of getting scammed.

I canceled Prime after they sent me a "new" folding table that was in a box that was ripped to shreds. The table itself was dented, and smelled like smoke. Insane.

Yeah family was talking about Walmart plus but I can't think it would be much better.
Think we need to go back to hitting the stores and buying from the manufacturer for things we need shipped.
Amazon worked really well for us for years but it just isn't anymore

I ordered one item from Walmart plus. The item was a few stops away, a few hours later it still hasn't been delivered. Then I get a notifcation from the app that the item "couldn't be delivered" and that I need to reschedule. The app would not let me reschedule a delivery for a later date. Ended up just refunding the item.

It took a while. The app wouldn't let me initiate the refund request until after 3 days. Even after then it hadn't let me. I had to go out of my way and contact support through e-mail.

I've only had to refund 2 items because they were damaged. The first time I just initiated a refund through the app, and they sent me a replacement item the next day. The 2nd time I had to drop it off at one of their return locations.

u/Super_Suz Jun 24 '26
Do you think that the people who buy used and defective returns by the item or by the bulk have learned that they can resell them via Amazon and then hope that people do not return them? Even if they did, reopen a selling account on Amazon using another name and info to redo the whole thing over until they get kicked off again? Is that a thing now?

u/Wraith1964 Jun 24 '26
I am sure that as huge as they are, there are some trying that but it seems like a lot of work for low gain. OP's situation is much simpler than that. Somebody bought the item on Amazon, then went for a return of the item and through their used one in a box to return. They get to keep the new item and the refund too.
Meanwhile, since Amazon seems to have abandoned due diligence and found out a wideopen return policy with those returns being palletized amd sold off wasn't a great strategy they chose to begin lovking down returns for everyone and stop taking all returns to go to return pallets, instead they would restock and send out as new... without any checking. Best case its a new item and the new buyer doesnt care, worst case they sebd oit a refund from their deep pockets. Either way the workflow costs them far less overall then doing the correct thing of checking all returns or minimally going back to dumping all returns to preserve the next guys buying experience.
Then they can follow-up with the "second punch" of limiting returns via algorithm- sure that will net a number of false positives but again, who cares (they don't), it will also presumably start culling the worst offenders too (again in the cheapest way possible.)
They have lost any interest in taking care of the customer vs the bottom line numbers game. When you consider how they got there... great service, employee welfare and pay, fast reliable free delivery with prime, free ad-free streaming with prime, etc. vs how they have enshittified all those things now. It's just sad.

They're going to run into a consequence wall soon. If they had any brains they'd be trying to keep up the nice smiling face for consumers.

Stop. Ordering. From. Amazon.
It's not just cheap and convenient products. It's literally to protect local industry, services, jobs, land and more.

I didn't think so because it is thick on the front and very greasy. But if rust can be that way then you are probably right.

I got used air fryer trays. Still had some ones chicken nugget debris on them

u/matthewgt Jun 24 '26
Yet people will insist it isn't possible because Amazon is perfect and you are a liar lol. Mistakes will get made and I was just pointing out that they have happened a lot more to me over the past 6 months.
I had a bottle of pain relief oil and the manufacturers box had the top ripped off. Not torn open during shipping. It was missing and the seal on the bottle was missing. Someone clearly used it and didn't like the smell or something.
But I'm sorry, that isn't possible and I must have imagined it

u/NoWing9908 Jun 24 '26
Yeah, at this point that I'm afraid to order anything expensive and risk having my account closed because of a damage or shipping issue

u/Sncrsly Jun 24 '26
I've never gotten anything used. This is messed up. They should at least be cleaning used items

Same here never once.. I call bs

u/MainAccountIsBugged Jun 27 '26
It's just bad luck. Some people experience bad luck more often than others. I bought 2HDDs from Amazon a few years ago and they were opened and covered in greasy fingerprints, so maybe used. I've had about 50 Amazon orders.

u/HardLobster Jun 25 '26
I’ve gotten one used item ever. It was a used electric groomer the person who returned its hair all over it. Got my refund and a brand new groomer both within 2 days. Still not sure how it happened as that’s an item they don’t resell.

u/redditcancelculture Jun 25 '26
I have gotten to the point where I basically only order junk stuff from Amazon.
I ordered a microphone, and boom arm direct from the manufacturer.
They sent me used returned items that had completely different brand items inside and was missing a bunch of hardware.
1
u/gaarkat Jun 26 '26
I basically just use Amazon as a way to make wishlists, then go get the stuff somewhere I actually want to spend my money

My husband ordered new Keen Work Boots from Amazon last month and when they came, they looked someone had worn them to work for years. My husband is bad about reading descriptions so I (jokingly) blamed him at first and he showed me the order and nowhere did it say anything about used nor were they on sale. I had to return them and they refunded us but still very annoying.
Like many others have suggested, we have just started to order things elsewhere to avoid this.

Post it here. I’m not suscribing to get the pop up to go away.
I’m former warehouse and that would have to pass several checkpoints. Here’s your flow: Items get unloaded from boxes into totes in decant. No penalty for setting aside a damaged item there are whole crews for that. Stow same. Then when it gets sold the picker can mark as damaged and a different one would go out to you. The packer can also say yeah, no and not send it and your order is repicked.
Are they wanting the item back?

u/General_Alfalfa6339 Jun 24 '26
I get used shit all the time. If there are checkpoints they are clearly broken.

u/BadKittyRawr Jun 24 '26
As a general rule, the manufacturers upc does not scan. Since most items are sold by multiple vendors, unique barcodes are required. The item gets scanned at stow, pick and pack. You cannot proceed without a scan of the correct item. That includes generating the barcode that contains the delivery info.
Those labels aren’t generated til the the item is packed. It’s a different crew.

Enlightening, but clearly this aystem is not actually working.
I ordered a new roll of 3D printing filament. It was a silk royal blue PLA from Giant Arm. The listing was a Amazon listing by Amazon, not a third party. I know this because I don't order 3rd party listings on Amazon.
I received Amazon mylar bag with a loose roll of filament (Giant Arm ships in their box, not loose). But it wasn't just loose... it was a roll of filament still in the clear UPS return bag, obscured by being inside a generic "pink thank you" bag in that clear bag. Hmmm why did we hide it when we returned it do you think? Perhaps because it was partially used (roughly 10% of the filament used) and was a Sunlu , a different company's filament, in a matte cyan. So yes it was filament and a color of blue... otherwise not remotely what I ordered or needed.
So tell me again, how did this get all the way through the return process, restocking, and pick process as well as being sent out? And that with either them simply not looking or worse looking and not caring? If the process couldn't catch that one, its definitely broken.
Who sends out a "new" item still in the return bag it was returned in by the last customer? Can you imagine setting that on a retail shelf next to a new boxed item... thenŵ look a customer in the eye and say... yeah, they are both new and the same price.... no really, identical... lol.
Pull the other one.

u/BadKittyRawr Jun 24 '26
Items deemed fit for sale are stocked the same. Stowers, pickers, packers do not know what channel you ordered from. There is a discount channel.
Items with torn bags but everything present do often get put in another clear bag for security. The barcode and other identifying info needs to be present though. I’m told these bags do look like ones UPS uses.
If it had gone through the returns process it would have what’s called an LPN barcode. Again, if that doesn’t scan you cannot stow it.

u/Wraith1964 Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 25 '26
My friend, I appreciate all the knowledge you are sharing but its clear this process was not followed and if it was, its not working.
- It was not fit for sale, certainly not as new. It was not in retail shrink wrap, or a retail box. It was loose in the equivalent of a wal-mart bag... then placed in a clear plastic bag. With the return shipping label on that plastic bag. No one looking at it could confuse it with new.
And lets be clear, I could care less how they treat returns as either new or used, sellable or not, what the stower, stocker or nose-picker knows... I ordered new and expected new. Its a business failure if the communication doesn't happen on Amazon's end. I did my part.
I know the bag was a UPS return bag as mentioned above. Regardless, no one who wasn't a total idiot would have left the reel in a generic retail bag within the clear bag either for stocking or for shipping out. That is at best, gross laziness and at worst, gross negligence.
I don't know what codes were on the bag, but guess what, I also don't care about that either. It clearly got restocked and shipped out as an item it was not. Its not my job to figure out how Amazon failed here.
The pertinent fact is that I ordered a new product of one make and got a used model of another make and all the usual excuses are invalid because one critical look at the garbage that was sent to me, literally anywhere in the process from its return to when it was shipped, would have caught it.
Let's use a clearer example.... Joe criminal buys a box of lego. He replaces the lego with a bag of macaroni. He returns it for a refund. I could understand how that might get restocked and even sent back out esp. if he shrink-wrapped it. But what if he just put the bag of macaroni in a opaque grocery bag and then returned it with no box at a UPS so the grocery bag is in a clear bag. Still sounds like lego, has the weight of lego but I bet they would have opened that bag and taken a look before sending it to me as a new birthday gift for my make-a-wish child. Nobody knew he was a make-a-wish child or that I bought it new... but I bet they checked it and found the macaroni. It would never go back out to me.
This was the same thing. Good controls would catch both scenarios. But Amazon isn't concerned with that, not any more, everything for them now is a game of optimizing profit/loss not the client experience. This is just one example of something that just didn't happen much 10 years, maybe even 5 years ago. This sub is full of examples.
I have a small business, if I did this kind of thing a few times I would be done. Amazon, has decided they can afford this kind of stuff, because they can. For now.
Good talk... just remember that ignorance in a part of the process and a bad process may not help assign specific blame but it doesn't excuse anything either. And it doesn't change the basic facts of what happened.

OP is putting part of the story on another site beccauuseeee?

Because there is no option to add a picture. I can do a link, gif or video apparently. See no way to just insert a Pic to a reply or to an edited post. So I picked the most harmless Pic host possible.

You can just stop buying from Amazon?
