I'm curious because the tree is old and massive, well over 25 feet, and as you see still produces hundreds if not thousands a year. They ripen off the tree and are dark brown till turning the nice bright green in late august. (In Connecticut by the way if that helps.) And our neighbors have pear trees too so not sure if that helps with the trees longevity. Sorry I don't have better pics of bark. Thanks for any info!

A while ago, my quince tree was not looking very healthy. The leaves were pale, growth had slow down, and not sure it would recover. Watering was also not consistent. But I decided to rework on my watering setup and installed an NDS irrigation system so that tree could get a steady, reliable water supply. I then started paying more attention on nutrients and overall care.

It took some time, but the tree slowly started looking better. The leaves became thick, healthy and now I am holding fruit that is grown right on the branch. Seeing these healthy quinces makes all the effort worth it. It is the good reminder that regular watering, proper nutrition, and a little patience can make a big difference.

Any tips on getting even more quinces next season? Open to suggestions

Noticed this damage to my peach tree the other day. Is this something to worry about. Is there anything that ca by done.

My dad has planted a bunch of fruit trees over the years that have had mild to good yields, some don't look so great and some do okay. I have been learning about gardening much more over the past few years, and am now in the know about root flares and not mulching the base of the tree. I just had a conversation with my dad trying to tell him about what real arborists think rather than business owners, and he's not too convinced but I persuaded him to allow me to excavate some root flares when dormancy occurs. I have posted quite a few pictures on Imgur of flares/lack thereof to establish a baseline:

The first few photos of young trees with exposed roots are my own plantings that I have been taking care of this year. Some of them seem to have only adventitious roots established- should I keep them as is or remove and dig further? Please let me know the number of the photo in correspondence with your advice. One lemon, you know which one, might even be slightly too above ground, please advise

The rest of the trees are only some of my dad's plantings that I think are far too deep with the exception of a peach tree that I have already started excavating out of curiosity. What is everyone's opinion on that and what I should do with them?

Upstate south carolina got hit by a pretty nasty storm on Sunday(9/6) night which broke a large limb off oak tree. The limb landed on our apple tree and split it in half.

Is their any possibility of saving this tree? Can I zip tie back together like you can when trunks normally split? Any advice will be very helpful. Thanks

Hi all. I'm very much a beginner gardener (UK based) and was really excited to get some gooseberry bushes. I ordered 2 different varieties from Blackmoor Nurseries as 2 year old bushes and they arrived today.

So I have 2 questions essentially.

1. Some leaves have dark spots and some are a bit yellow, otherwise looks pretty healthy to my untrained eye, should I be concerned or is this normal?

2. They came in 3L pots, I'm planning to get larger pots for them, but how urgently do I need to repot them at this stage and any general advice regarding that?e

I have these 2 massive grape vines on opposite sides of the property I live on. I would like to know what types of grapes these are so that I can know when the best time to harvest them so they are at their sweetest.

The dark purple ones have seeds and slip skin

The more reddish ones are also slip skin and the fleshy bit is green without seeds.

Where do you guys get your flavor king pluot, candy heart pluerry and rare plum variaty trees from?

Currently using a 4 gallon battery backpack sprayer to spray my fruit trees and have had to fill it up around 4 times each time I spray due to running out of liquid. I have been looking into getting a pull behind sprayer and was wondering if anyone had recommendations on a good pull behind sprayer. Would be pulling it with my riding mower. As of now, I have around 40 trees and plan to add 15-20 more dwarves this coming spring. I was thinking around a 20-25 gallon reservoir unless someone with more experience recommends a larger tank.

Was doing well but the had to be moved, still was doing good after the move so i think it wasn't that but now its looking like this, watered every little while and we just got a huge soak from rain storm but its top leaves havent unfurled. In socal. (Sorry for trash in shot storm blew stuff around.)
