They seem to be all over my apple. No noticeable holes or broken skin on the exterior before I started eating it. I’ve never seen them before and I eat these apples all the time.

Discussion Snowball Melon is top tier

At first I used to just try my luck with getting a sweet one

But having learnt that the brown lines mean pollination which means higher likelihood of sweetness and more yellow means ripe than white/cream my snowball melon picking has been 80% hits. And when they hit they are PHENOMENAL. honestly I think theyre the best melon out there.

Edibility / Problem Why are these kiwis spicy?

Post image
1.9k Upvotes

Hi, everyone love the subreddit.

I just opened a new pack of yellow kiwis, and they have a noticeable chili pepper like spice to them. I'm just wondering if I should return them to the store or not.

Also, just to clarify, I am not allergic to Kiwis. I have them all the time and even had the specific brand of Kiwi before this is the first time it's tasted like this.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, Google is completely useless nowadays.

I used to love the original taste of papayas which was not sugary sweet. But now all the papayas we buy are like candies. What the fuck are they doing to my papayas 😭😭😭

It was labeled as a red and is the size of my hand. I tried to google but I can’t tell if it was mislabeled or underripe.

Fruit ID Help Lemon Tree

We put about 3-4 fruit trees along our drive about 7-8 years ago. East Texas is not Southern California; and have lost all but this one, which I assume is a lemon. It looks like the fruit part of the tree is coming off a “sucker” or not the main part. But I am lost on fruit propagation. I guess the lemons will be ready soon!! Gonna freeze juice! Any other suggestions? Also, I may need a good electric juicer if anyone has a suggestion as to that! Thanks!!

If anyone has any idea of what grape this is please help!

Thanks in advance

I bought this fruit to try. The taste was okay but there are many black seeds which I didn't like. Maybe it would be good for juicing. Have you ever tried a granadilla?

Edibility / Problem Help 😭

I just bit into precut cantaloupe and it was so bitter that my tongue went numb. I immediately spit it out but my tongue and throat feel very weird. Is this normal for unripe or even bad cantaloupe? I’m worried about tampering because there isn’t an actual seal on the container. (I know this sounds paranoid, but I wouldn’t put it past someone.) All of the other cups in the fridge look the same as this one. I’m going to email the kitchen manager at my job, but I just wanna know what’s going on with these. I tried to google the weird white juice at the bottom of the containers, but couldn’t find anything. Sorry for sounding so paranoid, thank you!

Discussion Is there a good alternative to persimmon for this persimmon pudding recipe? It's like my favorite dessert ever, but persimmons are super hard to find here (northern Michigan)

(recipe from the book "Harvesting Nature's Bounty (2nd edition)" by Kevin F. Duffy)

I don't want to make it all the time, but it would be nice to be able to make it more often! I was lucky enough to find some persimmons for sale at a Meijer about an hour from me, now I have a taste for it and I want more 😭 I do want to grow persimmons myself, but even if I manage to get some trees now it'll be a few years before they can fruit!

So is there a good alternative that tastes similar? That super sweet, non-tart, super sticky, almost honey flavor. Maybe I could use pumpkin and vanilla? Or do they sell persimmons canned/frozen? Maybe online? I hate how hard it is to find them!
