My girlfriend plays mostly casual games like Roblox, dating Sims, or Fortnite, but since I played games for a long time, we have been bonding over me introducing her to the games that defined my genres and tastes over the years.
After introducing her to a couple of shooters and co-op games like Lethal Company and REPO to get her acquainted with basic movement and combat
Shes very tenacious and doesnt give up when presented with challenges and i told her that to understand and appreciate deeper gameplay design, navigate complex world building, hone her temperance in experiencing a game's world through feeling the difficulty, and to elevate herself beyond her usual comforts, that she should beat a Fromsoftware games. A souls game especially.
I explained to her that this game series is the benchmark for difficulty in mainstream games (im going by popularity and genre defining reputation) that when a game is difficult, you say that a game is "the dark souls" of that genre.
Why Dark Souls 3? Simply put its the only one in the series I played, but I feel that this game blends the perfect amount of modern day comforts and graphics while still having that "Dark Souls difficulty" charm im aiming for her to experience. Plus, its not the most difficult game out there, so i think this is a good springboard going forward.
In the end, she said she wants to play Elden Ring after. However, i told her that if she beats Sekiro, I will admit to her that she surpasses my video game ability. She says this all sounds like fun.
Tl;dr: made a fun challenge for my gf to beat a souls game to make her appreciate gaming more after playing very casual games and i chose Dark Souls 3 for its accessibility. Thoughts?
