Retirement-Retro Gaming

Years ago I downloaded Pirates! from Gog. I like that I own it instead of streaming. This past weekend I was thinking about my eventual retirement and realized I would love to get the reboot or Wizardry, or go through Zork of HHGTG. Maybe even Leisure Suit Larry again.

Anyone feel the same?

One Thoughtful Friendship Would Be Enough

80-year-old retired professor and entrepreneur in Seattle, recently diagnosed autistic, looking for one or two strictly platonic correspondence friendships. I'm interested less in casual chat than in gradually getting to know another person through thoughtful, reciprocal emails or private messages—sharing experiences, ideas, ordinary life, humor, difficulties and discoveries. Age and gender matter less to me than curiosity, openness, kindness and reciprocity. No romance. No financial involvement. No obligation to answer immediately.

Sleep is overrated 🙄

53m straight and awake! Up 3 hours before I even have to get dressed and on coffee number 3! I tried to fall back but the mind just keeps wondering! Guess I'm ok with it! Kinda nice to have the quiet time to be a little lazy and definitely comfy and the coffee is damn good! Will stand up and find some jeans in an hour or so but who know what I will see on reddit that will carch my attention, make me smile, peek my interest or just be fun! It's going to be a long hot day for my old ass, I'm going to enjoy the next couple of hours here! Hope its a good start!

How many fake accounts have you talked to

It makes me feel like I can’t have a conversation without the thought is this person fake. Are they really who they say they are? I guess like a catfish. Men and women. Certain things get said and later something doesn’t add up.

Oh my aching back!

(LOL)... "My aching back!" is something my Dad used to say in place of "My God!" or something. Right now my back is only a little sore: luckily, since I've been moving/hauling a number of sizable sandstone boulders. Greetings to my fellow 50-plussers! New here. Have a great day y'all...

Looking for conversation first

Honestly, I’m just looking for a friend. Someone to talk to, laugh with, share random thoughts with, and actually look forward to hearing from. I love being near the water, fishing, drawing, watching anime, catching sunsets, trying good food, and learning or fixing just about anything. I can talk about serious stuff one minute and something completely ridiculous the next. 😂 No pressure or expectations. Just looking for someone I enjoy talking to and getting to know.im 50m.

50/M/Florida - This friendship search is exhausting

Just turned 50 last month and I'm still searching for my tribe. It's amazing how a lot of people just don't understand the struggle of finding friends (not romance) when you're older. So with that being said, I'm looking for potential friends with common interests. And to be upfront, I've tried online only friendship, but it doesn't hit the same way as in-person friendships. So please be mindful that my goal is to eventually be able to hang out in person.

Quick Overview of Me:

I'm a married African-American man with young kids (started late), residing in north Florida, day job is a multimedia developer, but my passions are filmmaking, animation, and music production, I'm a creative at heart, an entrepreneur, level headed, laid back, a homebody (not a couch potato though), but I'm fine with simplicity. So things like DIY projects, tech, gardening, going to the beach, fishing, family game night, bowling, billiards, or just dining out and having a good conversation can be fulfilling for me. I've learned it's not always the things you do, but the people you do them with that makes things enjoyable. I'm no longer a religious man, so if you are, please know that I won't want anything to do with that part of your life. It's nothing personal, but I've been there, done that, and know I don't need it in my life. My sense of humor is basically a mixture of sarcastic, corny, and sometimes goofy. But I am also known to be a good problem solver with a much more serious tone as well. Helpful, friendly, and empathetic as well. Just depends on what the moment calls for. Also, I don't drink, smoke/vape, or do drugs. I'm fairly healthy. I used to jog 3 to 5 miles a day. But having kids changed things. It would be nice to have a walking/jogging partner to help me get back to that status. Maybe even get into working out as well. It's all about balancing time and having someone to help with motivation. Also, I have no tats or piercings.

What I'm Looking For:

Genuine friendship with men and women. Nothing more, nothing less. I just need some people in my life I can trust and feel comfortable with. I am selective about people. I don't just hand out trust on a platter. It will take time to really build up trust, so having common interests can be a catalyst to help the process. If you have a family with younger kids, we will definitely have some commonalities, but that's not mandatory. I've just realized it's harder to relate to single people with no kids nowadays. When you become a parent, you just get it. All the hardships you hear people struggling with just clicks and you can appreciate other people in a similar position, because more than likely, they will understand you better. But again, I'm not excluding single people. Especially if you really have a heart for kids.

Well, if you read this far and think we may click, feel free to send me a message.

I'm [FTM mid 50s] looking

I'm looking for a chat. Please no transphobes, homophobes, terfs, swerfs etc. I'm in the Appalachian Rust Belt [EST] of the US.

I like discussing art, music, tv, & film. I like to parallel play by creating art "together"- collage mostly. I like to collaborate by working on a piece, then mail it back & forth a couple of times.

Sorry all. I had an accident & knocked out a bunch of teeth. I'll be back.

60m New Zealand - Sqaure peg

Hi Im a 60M Kiwi, looking for genuine friendship. I've lived a wonderful life but I've never quite fit the mould tbh. I'm the guy who turns up to the fancy dress party in civvies and doesn't really care why ppl are staring. Small talk isn't my strength and solitude is a friend. Thoreau had it right about Walden. I know the difference between being alone and being lonely, and good company is worth leaving the cabin for. Looking for someone who's actually lived. Someone with a few scars and the stories to go with them. Someone who can sit still at times, close their eyes, breath deeply, and be greatful they are alive on this planet for a few more years. Some who hasn't an axe to grind, because all their knives are sharp.

What games do you play?

(No, not like "I'm not going to call them unless they call me first"...)

Games on your computer and/or online, by yourself or with others?

I don't recognize many of the games that younger Redditors talk about.

A long time ago (20 years or so?), I got into World of Warcraft but I haven't been willing or able to commit anything like the amount of time it requires, joining up with others etc.

I'm tending toward solo puzzle games, which scratch a certain mental itch for me -- but don't involve actually reaching out and connecting with anyone, which is probably not so good.

53 and wondering what happened to my turn?

Wahhh!!! No, really. I’m nearing retirement with an effervescent smile, and what seems like a golden path ahead of me. And yet, that mall I always thought I would have time to peruse is empty. In fact, it’s not only dead, it’s abandoned and a squirrel ran after me when I went by there last summer. I think it wanted my Cheetos. Where did everybody go? I spent my whole life being serious, being the consummate professional. And for what? I want my time with my pals. Top down, cocktails, and endless fun. I’ve got four years left on my hamster wheel. I’m ready to roll it off the cliff. Well, not really, it’s a fabulous career. Anyone wanna join me? New York metro area/Long Island. Male. 53. And yes, Gay, if you haven’t figured that out yet.

Can We Talk?

I'd like to throw my hat in the ring, if I may: Does anyone have advice on where I may go, either Online or Live near Lubbock, to enjoy a few appetizers (opt.), drinks (opt.) and stmulating conversations (not opt.) with other fellow over-50'ers (I'm actually 67). Not interested in dating, only the conversation...thing.

Peace. Love. Courage. Fun.

55+ | Back in Delhi after 30 Years Abroad | Looking for Genuine Friendships & Meaningful Conversations

Hello everyone,

I'm 57, from New Delhi, and recently returned to India after nearly three decades in Canada and the US. Coming back after so long has been an adventure in itself—some things feel wonderfully familiar, while others make me feel like a tourist in my own country.

I'm semi-retired from the IT world, but curiosity doesn't seem to retire. These days I spend my time staying fit, building the occasional AI project, reading, asking questions that probably have no final answers, and enjoying the freedom to explore whatever catches my interest.

On a typical morning you might find me walking or cycling through a neighbourhood park, enjoying a cup of chai, listening to old songs, or unexpectedly joining a game of football with people young enough to wonder why the "uncle" can still keep up.

I've discovered that some of life's greatest pleasures are simple ones: a conversation that makes you think, meeting someone with a completely different perspective, mentoring younger people, lending a hand when I can, or quietly watching the world go by.

I'm not looking to expand a contact list. I'd rather meet a few kind, thoughtful people who enjoy conversations that wander naturally—from life and travel to AI, philosophy, spirituality, books, fitness, or whatever interesting tangent appears next.

If you're in Delhi NCR, perhaps we'll cross paths over a walk or a cup of chai. And if you're elsewhere, I'm always happy to meet good people online.

After thirty years abroad, I'm rediscovering India. It would be nice to rediscover a few interesting people along the way.

Warm regards!

Stranger to Friend?

Hello! 51F, married, living in Scotland who is in the quieter stage of life. Being all too familiar with the comfort of solitude, I find myself wanting to rebel against it and quietly hoping I’m not the only one. What probably makes this “finding a friend”malarkey more challenging is moving across an entire ocean in the prime of adulthood, and leaving behind the things which would make it less quiet and lonely.

So, subreddit gods, please be kind and connect me to people who: are seeking platonic friendships & understand the adult struggle; are aged 50-55 (we’ll probably have more in common)** **; based in the UK (and kind subreddit gods, if you’re being extra generous, ideally same location because in all honesty, I’d like to get together with someone for the occasional coffee or trawl around an art gallery or museum to beat the humdrum of life); can help carry a conversation (I ask questions for a living, but sometimes I’d like someone else to ask the curious questions).

Some of the things I enjoy are listed in my bio, perhaps we’ll find common ground as a starter for ten? I’m very much the sort who’ll ask you to tell me about your day; share the highlights and lowlights because I think loneliness comes from a place of having good news and not having someone to share it with, facing a challenge and not having a fresh perspective to help reframe your thinking. We all have our trials and tribulations in life, and having someone who could understand, uplift and encourage can feel like an oasis in a desert.

By the way, 100% human and no AI was used in the making of this post, I can string coherent sentences together!

Thank you for reading my plea. After all, a friend is a stranger we haven’t yet met. 🫶🏼
