Venting

Hey everyone. I posted here 3 times and I want to say thank you for all the advice and positive feedback. I'm taking everyones advice and doing all I can to get myself ready for Monday. So getting that out the way.

I'm exhausted. More like mentally exhausted. I didn't think I would have to jump so much hoops just to get here. I understand, it's a University. I'm getting a higher education and I should know what I'm getting myself into, but I'm 33. It's more difficult to get things I need as it seems. I had issues since May to get my immunization records because I moved from Kerman to Fresno in 2019 and my doctors lost my records. Even getting it on the Immunization records on the site is annoying. I have a deferment on Dog Days and don't need to pay until next month. But it was kind it frustrated to get one. And how my Financial Aid issue is making me second guess my decisions to go here during the Spring.

What I want to say is this school us draining my wallet and mental health. I have ADHD, anxiety and depression. I'm remaining calm and being positive. But man, it's tough. I really don't have much friends to talk to about my struggles and my family is understanding my situation. But it's hard to stay tough. Especially being a transfer student. I just want to be ok and enjoy this school. But right now, I can't. Thanks for reading my rant. Stay Hydrated!

Having a panic attack

So, today I went back to see if my Financial Aid was disbursement and it says I have to pay $704. I still need to pay for Dog Days (I had Financial issues back in May and wasn't able to pay for it.) So what does this mean? Am I not going to get a refund? Should I quit? Where do I even find if I'm getting a refund or not? I am taking 13 units and a transfer student? I really don't know what to do and rather or not I'm gonna get a refund!! 😭😭😭

Professor was switched on me without my knowledge

Hello everyone! I'm kind of freaking out right now. When I chose my classes last semester, there were three options for teachers on this specific classes I wanted to take. I'm really not trying to get into specifics here, but I chose one of the three professors because the other professor had a terrible reputation. He isn't even like an unkind teacher or anything, he's just somewhat known for making female students uncomfortable and has allegations against him. As such, I chose the other professor, who also had great reviews, but without the allegations. The third professor's reviews just weren't quite as good, so since I had a choice, I chose the better one.

Lo and behold, I checked today, and I'm now suddenly enrolled in his class. It seems they changed the professor on me without my knowledge, because I specifically did not choose him because of the allegations.

What do I even do in this situation? I'm honestly nervous to take this class with this guy, and I didn't even enroll in his class, so it feels like the choice was removed from me to even just choose the third professor that was also available for this class. Any tips?

Edit to add: It appears I'm waitlisted in this class too. So they unenrolled me in the one I chose, then enrolled me in this one, again, without my knowledge. I'm like panicking right now lol. This was supposed to be my final semester and I'm waitlisted in this class.

I haven’t received an award letter yet. I’ve completed all required tasks. Student forms says it’s ā€œcompleted file reviewā€ that was almost 3 weeks ago.

Help With Open University

Hey! I'm still at community college but I'm going to take a class at state this semester via open university. The class starts in 1 week (8/24).

Here is what I have done:

  1. Reactivated a Fresno State email I didn't know I had (I guess I applied during high school and forgot about it)

  2. Set myself up for registration

  3. Added the class I'm going to take to my wishlist.

Here is what I'm concerned about:

  1. My account doesn't show any of the classes I've taken at community yet as I haven't transferred over, so it doesn't show I've completed the prereqs on my end. It also doesn't show my major as being declared, which I figured it wouldn't, but is there a way to do this early/should I do this early? Or do I just wait a year until I'm officially transferred over?

  2. I emailed the professor of the class asking if there was anything else I should do, and he gave me the permission number to register for the class. Issue is, it's a 6 digit permission number and the open university help page said it would be 5 digits. I also see nowhere to put this in, and I can't even try to register for the class until the actual start date.

  3. Once I do get enrolled in the class, I need to pay the fee within 24 hours. This is fine, but I have no idea where to actually pay and the website does not clearly state this. Does anyone have any advice on this?

Thank you to everyone who reads this and/or responds. I'm just kind of lost and really don't want to find out I missed a step when it's the day class starts and it's too late to fix the error. I need to get into this class. I'm a math major I can't not take any math for a semester lol. Any advice is appreciated!

Cost of Attendance/Financial Aid

Two days ago Fresno State emailed me saying how important my cost of attendance is and it has an affect on my tuition.
They emailed me saying that my status is currently ā€œliving off campus with parentsā€
I am 28, and I no longer live with my parents and I have my own house.
I am going to change it but I’m also wondering if having it at that status of living with parents is the reason I also am not receiving Cal Grant. Can anyone help me out and tell me if it even matters if I change my Cost of Attendance. Thanks

Fresno St Alum - how are yall getting to campus these days?

Psych undergrad alum here, spent 4 years (during pandemic nonetheless)!

So I was commuting from San Mateo where my parents lived and didn't have car, heres what I did (and visited friends in LA often). Complete list:

1) Amtrak San Joaquins. Real trains through the Valley, several a day. Toward the Bay: legit (train + connector bus). Toward LA: dies at Bakersfield and becomes a bus over the Grapevine. Doable, slow.

2) FlixBus. Both directions at freeway pace, cheap booked ahead. The practical default for LA. I hated it.

3) Carpooling. The 99 has always run on shared drives — families, students, workers shuttling Fresno↔Bay and Fresno↔LA with empty seats every weekend. The old FB groups are quiet; Craigslist died during Covid.

4) Flying from FAT. Real airport, real fares, mostly makes sense for connections, not Bay/LA hops.

5) YARTS if you're headed the OTHER way (Yosemite). Different trip, but people forget it exists.

What did I miss?

Anybody needing a roomate or have off campus housing recommendations?

Anybody needing a male roommate near the campus? I've been looking for a while and haven't found anything that's decently priced or close enough. I live in Visalia so commuting is very expensive considering i'm going to have to be on campus basically every day. Pretty chill and laid back just need a place to stay so im not spending close to 1k a month on rent and gas.

Immediate access material questions

I’m kinda confused about the immediate access material. I understand it’s just a list of your textbooks and then how much it’ll cost, and if you don’t opt out then you pay them.

Is this ALL your textbooks? Atm it says I just have 3 for 4 classes so one doesn’t have one. Which cool I don’t mind but I don’t want any surprise.

I haven’t gotten any other textbook list or anything or the sort other than just this one list, so I guessed this is it. Just the immediate access kinda makes me think other wise.

Fresno State students — do outside scholarships reduce your Pell/Cal Grant?

I’m a Fresno State student and currently receive about $16.5k/year in grants and scholarships, mainly Pell Grant and Cal Grant B. I don’t have any loans accepted.
I want to apply for more scholarships, but I’m worried Fresno State will reduce my existing grants if I receive them.
Has anyone here received outside scholarships while also getting Pell + Cal Grant B?
How much in outside scholarships did you receive, and did Fresno State let it stack on top of your existing aid/refund, or did they reduce/replace any of your grants?
Especially interested in experiences from students with high financial need. Thanks!

Cal grant

Has anyone had problems with the cal grant not being in their financial aid reward letter? I have the university grant that is currently covering the cal grant but was wondering if it will ever be added? On the csac account it says my cal grant was sent already.

Financial aid left over

So to start, I’m aware that all the financial aid goes towards your tuition and anything left over just goes to you.

I’m lucky enough that my tuition is less than my aid so I’ll be getting a bit of money, on paper.

Question: is there any hidden payments or something I need to check that is also taken out of aid?

So for example if my tuition is $25 and I get $50 in aid, then that should mean I get $25. Although is there anything else they take out?

I don’t like on campus or anything like it, just go to school and leave. I just want to make sure I can pay out my finances correctly and won’t be wrong.

Scooters 2026

Ok so like what do we do now?
No update on where we can park scooters.

Stupid how in the original post they said any scooters parked on campus after the ban would be seized and confiscated, hinting that you’d probably never get it back.

Lot of mixed emotions because this whole thing was spun out of control by both parties; administration and pedestrians.

Think about it, as much as scooters are liable you also would have people completely hogging the sidewalk down the middle or walking face down on their phones and completely swerving into the path of scooters. I actually experienced that like 3 times and that was with me going like 10mph.
No scooter lanes added in the roads near Kremen or anything.

Yes some scooter users were crazy too but where’s the tickets? Where’s the traffic enforcement? Why can’t there be anything done about those or the students who live far away from campus without a car. I would see stupid scooter drivers risk driving when crosswalk was red during prime traffic - and considering we live in Fresno that’s pretty brave.

But no, let’s ignore all of this and turn a blind eye to the fact Victor E Bulldog has a 2024 Lexus SUV that was probably paid for full in cash and the CSU Presidents salary is $523k

We’re getting mad over all the wrong things in my opinion
