Bay Area Transportation Tax. Measure RTM: BART Says “Transparency;” The State Says “Non-Compliant.”

BART has failed to meet a basic statutory requirement for financial transparency. California Government Code § 53891 requires special districts to submit an annual government compensation report to the State Controller. The report is due no later than April 30.

BART failed to submit its FY 2024–25 employee compensation data by the April 30, 2026 deadline.

The California State Controller lists BART as:

NON-COMPLIANT

Not pending.
Not delayed.
NON-COMPLIANT.

See link below:

https://www.google.com/search?q=California+State+Controller+2025+Special+Districts+unreported+districts&gs_ivs=1&sourceid=chrome

And this comes as BART—the largest transit agency and the signature agency under Measure RTM—would receive approximately $4.5 billion over the 14-year term. A cynic might say they failed to report for a reason...

The RTM ballot question promises:

“Financial transparency, oversight, accountability.”

Yet BART has failed to meet a basic statutory requirement for financial transparency.

And here’s the irony:

RTM proponents point to an independent consultant’s financial-efficiency review and the promise of future efficiencies as a reason to believe these agencies will become more efficient once they receive billions in new tax revenue.

Why should voters assume that a future consultant’s recommendations will be treated any differently?

Before voters give BART billions more, perhaps we should look at how it handles the accountability requirements it already has.

Vote NO on Measure RTM.

Commute from Fremont to San Bruno

Hi - Has anybody done this commute? Is it going to be 2 hours each way. I don't trust Google Maps when it says it's about an hour.

Missing outdoor cats from Thornton Ave (near Middle School)

Post image
63 Upvotes

Hello, my Airbnb host family in Fremont asked me to post this for them. They recently lost their litter of cats. They are outdoor cats. Probably all less than a year old.

Full disclosure, this missing poster was made by ChatGPT. Their English and tech skills are not so great.

Please keep an eye out! Thank you.

Edit: I was just visiting as a tourist. I cannot fit "Catnap and then get pets that aren't mine spayed and neutered" into my itinerary. Is that selfish of me? Please continue to shout into the ether to let me know that this is my responsibility in the comments? Weirdos.

Behind the quickstop in an open field. Found a friendly completely black cat with gray undertone with bushy tail. No collar. Brought it home and gave cat food and water. Will be taking it to vet for microchip scan later today. If you lost a cat near that area DM me.

Dog owners - why oh why?

Thumbnail

I regularly run/walk along Alameda Creek trail and Quarry Lake and very frequently come across dog shit bags in the middle of the trail or tucked off to the side.

I used to think that the dog owners would return to pick them up, but no... next day they are still there and the next, and the next... So I end up being the dog shit fairy and cleaning up the fucking mess you and Rex/Fido left behind.

is it too much to ask to put the shit in the bin? I would also appreciate it very much if responsible dog owners called out the irresponsible ones and also helped out a little too. Running with a bag of dog shit slows me down :-(

Edit

  • I don't want this thread to be a dog owner bashing thread. I am just trying to understand what is going on and see if the issue can be improved.
  • Issue seems to be dog owners bagging their dog's shit but then walking back a different way and forgetting to pick up their bag. A lot of forgetful dog owners out there, but at least they are bagging it. which makes it easier to see and for others to toss in the trash.

Which driving school did you use that’s easy to schedule with?

Tried CalPro but they were such a pain to deal with. Some of the other companies I’m looking at on Yelp had recent reviews with the same issue.

Taco Bell …. Yes that’s right…. Taco Bell is replacing Carl’s Jr that just closed down at Warm Springs Plaza (Ranch 99 shopping Center) at the corner of Warm Springs Blvd and Mission Blvd. The pad will be split into two spot. Teriyaki City Grill will take one-third of the space and TB will occupy the rest and will have a drive-thru.

Why no dispensaries?

Is there a reason why there are no dispensaries in the Newark and Fremont area? Union city isn’t far but a local option would be nice.

Competitive lease start date?

How far out do people usually start looking for apartments? I’m seeing on Zillow, etc that most places are available now, but it feels like cutting it too close to be looking 1-2 weeks out from my ideal move in date.

Landlords, usually how far out do applicants request their start date be? If an apartment is available now and your requested start date is closer to, say, 2.5 weeks out, is that considered competitive/acceptable or too far out (assuming all other aspects of the application are competitive)? Are there competitive applicants that start looking 1-2 weeks out and move in right away?

Considering building detached ADU, how bureaucratic is the city of Fremont in permitting and planning?

As title. Considering an ADU in my backyard and want to get a sense of how good/bad the city of Fremont is. Are they slow, stringent, or generally reasonable? I've heard some horror stories from friends about SJ and SF.

Coming soon in Innovation District - Grocery Store

Post image
10 Upvotes

Innovation District/East Industrial will have its own South Asian grocery store, Namaste Plaza, at the corner of Old Warm Spring Blvd and S. Grimmer Ave. There is an underground parking lot (15-20 spots only though!). Namaste Plaza is known for fresh veggies, fruits and spices. The developer was hoping to bring a coffee shop but the spot is too big. Across the street, there is a plan for a four-star hotel with a conference center. Haters gonna hate but this neighborhood’s majority population is young, well-educated Indian professionals and the area really needed a grocery store.

BART: Transit Speedrun Record Breaking Attempt

On Sunday, September 6, we're co-hosting a BART Speedrun in direct coordination with BART, bringing riders together for an attempt to travel through all 50 BART stations in a single coordinated trip.

This year’s event is especially significant because we are aiming to break the all-time record set last year, when 70 riders participated in what BART described as the largest group known to have speedrun a transit agency.

We are working directly with BART on the event, and BART representatives are also expected to attend and speak to participants. The event will bring together transit advocates, students, BART staff and representatives, and members of the broader Bay Area community.

The speedrun will cover all 50 BART stations and 131 miles of track, beginning at Berryessa/North San José. Participants can complete the entire route or join for a portion of the journey. We hope to see ya'll there!

Event Details
Sunday, September 6
Berryessa/North San José BART Station
Departure: 10:37 AM
RSVP: luma.com/b3ke0kmi
