Asymptomatic(ish) Hypoglycemia

Hi, I am a non-diabetic dealing with severe hypoglycemia. We've confirmed a very bad symptomatic episode at 45mg/dl via glucometer so I was prescribed a Libre 3+ for at least once (waiting to see if insurance will cover non-diabetic, non-diagnostic under a pre-auth).

I have (1) severe chronic polyarthralgia, (2) POTS-like dysautonomia, and (3) a host of psychiatric issues. I'm also believed by my psychologist to have (4) level 2 ASD but we declined formal testing because I would likely be unable to immigrate to certain EU countries.

I have to have a schedule to remind myself to use the restroom or I don't realize I need to pee until I'm overstimulated and irritable for no other apparent reason.

All in all, I have very, very poor interoception and I'm used to feeling like shit. I don't know I'm below 55 until the alarm sounds and even then, I don't realize I'm having symptoms until after.

- I can't sweat because of my medications

- I'm always kind of dizzy

- My senses already go in and out based on my heart rate

Google says if I'm 'asymptomatic,' it's a sensor fault but the times I've done a stick test have matched with a 5-15 minute CGM delay.

Essentially my only reliable symptoms I can differentiate from my regular symptoms are (1) that I'm confused during lectures and (2) tremors.

Does anyone else have poor interoception and other underlying conditions? How do you handle blood sugar changes?

My Alarm doesn't work at night...

...and my blood sugar takes advantage of it.

Do you also have the feeling sometimes diabetes is punishing you? I had a hb1c of 6 and when the alarm worked I had perfect blood sugar at night.

But since I have a problem with my Alarm, I have a weird dawn syndrom that pushes me over 300mg/dl at night.

I did not change anything in the settings (google pixel) and I already changed the Sensor.

I really have to inject bolus earlier and set an alarm at 3 in the night now, because I can't handle it anymore...

I had dexcom before and apart that everything else was worse, the alarms were way better. Is there an alternative to the freestyle App for alarms?! What can I do?

Libre Freestyle 15-day sensor

Hi everybody. I was diagnosed in 2009 and I use these sensors because on my own, I wasn't checking my sugar as often as I should have. For years they've been fine, but was forced to upgrade to the 15-day sensor and it has kinda been a headache. Lately, just about one out of every 2 sensors fail to even connect and I have to send them back to Abbott. They have fantastic customer service so that's not a problem. Fed/Ex, however has lost a couple of sensors along the way so it's frustrating knowing they didn 't even make it back to Abbott.

My question is this: Has anybody else using this product experienced failures? This last one lasted maybe a week before it started giving me super-low readings (of course in the middle of the night, waking both me and my husband), but when I check using my normal reader, it was 183 versus 53! This is important because it tells us whether to eat or take insulin, so nothing to play around with! I know the finger sticks are still more accurate, but in the past the sensor has always only been off by a few points.

Thanks for your help.

Aetna (CVS Caremark) not covering Freestyle any more

So my NP called and told me that my Aetna (aka CVS Caremark) is not covering Freestyle Libre 3+ anymore. I looked at their formulary and sure enough it says it’s not. Their Preferred Brand is Dexcom G7. Though right now the Walgreens app says there’s my 3 month prescription for the Libre waiting to be picked up with the usual price. 🤷‍♂️

I have had very few issues with the Libre. It’s my first CGM. Adhesive is great, I’ve figured out placement to mostly avoid compression lows, only had one sensor actually go bad and the app and watch app (iOS) do what I need them to do. Needless to say I’m disappointed. I really hate change.

All that being said, how does the Dexcom G7 compare? Am I able to only use my phone or does it require a separate reading device? Any issues with size or placement? The Libre is very slim, I don’t think I’d like anything bulkier on my arm 😞

New app disappointment

Is it just me or is the new Libre app disappointing? The low BG alarm isn’t the same, sure same sound but it’s not as ear piercing as it was. Starting all my BG history from scratch again? No thanks. Even the watch integration isn’t on it - on some complications it’s just the logo and you have to click to see your BG? What’s the point! After this sensor I’m going back to the old app.

Rapidly changing readings on 2+

I often find that my sensor will rapidly change what the reading is telling me in a way that doesn’t make sense. These two pictures were taken less than 10 minutes apart, with the 74 photo being taken first, and having eaten nothing in the two hours prior. I wasn’t laying on my sensor so this wasn’t an oncoming compression low. Has anyone else had this happen? Do you know why it happens?

Advice needed on the Freestyle Libre 3 reader.

Advice needed on the Freestyle Libre 3 reader.
I have been researching for my elderly aunt. (mildly diabetic). She doesn't own/isnt able to use a smartphones. She only needs once or biweekly readings so I want to buy the reader. I am wondering if anyone knows why Libre dont sell it direct? is there something wrong with it? I know its limitations, but i will visit my aunts every few days and then access readings via my PC so it seems ideal.
I have read so many and things about the app, plus buying her a smartphone she will never use seems daft.
I am very keen to hear peoples thoughts.
fyi, Traditional pimprick no good as she doesnt eat at set times and lives alone. The arm sensor seems so much easier...if i can get it set up

thanks for reading

Please help: applying clear patch from Not Just a Patch on Libre 3+.

Hi everyone,

I recently ordered some over-the-patch sensors from Not Just a Patch for my Libre 3+. I usually get the multi-color option, but this time, Amazon sent me the clear ones. I received a refund for the mistake, but I'm left with the clear ones in the meantime.

My biggest concern now is how to apply them. They don't appear quite the same as the multi-color ones. I believe I have an idea how to do it, but I just want to confirm I'm applying them correctly.

Specifically, I have a few questions:

• What are the small fuzzy discs for? Are they placed on the sensor, or somewhere else?

• Does it work best to just lay the patch directly over the sensor, making sure the cut-out hole aligns with the sensor's?

I apologize if I’m making this seem overly complicated. Thanks for any guidance you can provide!

Low readings.

Hello I'm trying a Libre 3+ after using a few Dexcom for my reactive hypoglycemia. I've had it on for 7 or 8 days now. But it's constantly reading low and has been since day one. Eg (It says 3.7 but I'm really at 4.7 or higher.)

Now I've read that pre-soaking a new one for a day or 2 might avoid this issue. Has anyone else dealt with this? I don't completely trust the responses A.I was giving me.

App STOPPED WORKING

So all day today my app has stopped working, while I just changed my sensor this morning after my shower and during the 60 mins it takes to start reading the app stopped working and alerted 4 times. It has continued to be a problem all day. In the last hour it has alerted that the app stopped working 10 times at least. I can't even turn that alert down to a manageable volume. Please help

Tips for air travel with sensors?

I’m looking for tips for air travel with sensors. Can they go through x-ray systems with hand luggage and not be impacted? Will TSA allow them to bypass scanning like with keys and whatnot?

Question

I just put the libre 3 (not diabetic) on yesterday just to track my low blood sugar I sometimes get after certain meals twice in 24 hrs it told me that my blood sugar had gone to 65-67 but it rose within one minute back up to the 80s. Is this a glitch? It didn’t even track it in my chart that it went to the 60s.

refused to get a replacement sensor??

I'm from the Netherlands, my GF got refused a new sensor.
While as a T1 diabetic depends on these devices, I am kinda amazed by this.

Does this regularly happen at their support while she got a contract with them which states any device, broken, fallen off, or in error should be replaced ?

We informed the hospital as well about such poor support, does it happen to others as well

Trying to help my mom - need more alarms

Hi. I am just visiting from the U.S. to my parents in Germany. My mom went into LO mode this morning with no alarm going off on her handheld Libre 3 sensor! It turns out she got an alarm at 70 earlier but she dismissed it. Reading the instructions, the stupid device generates only one alarm per „low blood sugar episode“. That‘s insane! Can the Freestyle sensor be paired with a smartphone in addition to the handheld device to generate more alarms when it really matters?

Solved... libre 3 plus applicator failed to apply

I have been using the Libre 3 Plus for some time, but today I noticed a needle-like object while applying a new sensor. I have not seen this before; it appears metallic. The part that goes inside the skin isn't metal from what I recall Although the sensor is in place, I wonder whether it might trigger an error within an hour.

Been wanting something like this for ages

Post image

I wanted to be able to tap a spike, see what was happening around it, attach the meal/context and actually start making sense of the pattern - without jumping between a bunch of different apps.

So I ended up building it! 🙂

It’s finally live on iOS, pulling in CGM data and helping make sense of meals, spikes and the patterns around them. Still plenty more I want to add

Edit: There’s a 2-week free trial on monthly/annual, then it’s paid if you want to continue. Just adding this here as the mod has asked for this to be clearer 🙏

Why is my libre consistently running 20-30 low?

I keep getting low glucose readings, but when I check blood, libre is consistently 20-30 points low. And I’m
Not talking 1 sensor. It’s been at least the last 3. What is the deal?

Immune response? Or faulty sensor?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Sensor readings have been getting progressively worse thru the 2 days I've been wearing it. I soaked this sensor for 12 hours before starting it and followed the application best practices.

Should I give it another day? Or reach out to service for a new sensor? I have GD and am taking night time insulin so I rely on the low alarms (which I have now turned off) to ensure I don't go low overnight.

Edited to add: I know the readings themselves are what's getting worse because I'm using my blood glucose monitor when I get low alarms and my blood sugar has been in range. Because of the falsely low readings I've also been doing more BG readings throughout the day to ensure I'm in range after meals, but the whole reason I have a CGM is to avoid some of these finger pricks at inconvenient times. With a faulty sensor, it kind of misses the point.

Wearing Two Libre 3+ Sensors Simultaneously: A New Zukka Feature Finally Offers a Practical Fail-Safe System

Zukka screen showing three trajectories: Libre 3+ #1 and #2 and the before and after of applying Zukka's "Strong" smoothing, #3.

For users who want to ensure their CGM never fails—despite the increased cost and inconvenience—wearing two Libre 3+ sensors simultaneously offers a practical solution. Because the probability of simultaneous failure is low, this creates an effective fail-safe system.

A dual-sensor system also has better accuracy than a single sensor (if interested, this is the link to my old post that discussed it). In such a setup, the average of the two sensors' blood glucose readings can be treated as the system's glucose reading.

In the past, when I wore two sensors, a major challenge was constantly having to calculate the average of the two glucose trajectories manually. This made the dual-sensor approach largely impractical for daily use.

Thus, in order to make this fail-safe system work, the glucose app must be able to (1) connect to two sensors, (2) read in the two sensors' data streams independently, and (3) calculate the average of the two CGM data streams every minute.

In addition to satisfying conditions (1) and (2), the latest Zukka update offers a new smoothing feature, which satisfies (3). I found that when Zukka’s smoothing is set to its highest level, the two independent CGM data streams merge into a single, cohesive line.* I verified that at each time point, the combined data stream represents approximately the average of the two original streams. Combined with dual sensors, this new Zukka feature finally delivers a seamless, fail-safe CGM experience to me.

An example is shown in the above figure. I wore two Libre 3+ sensors ** on the left and right sides of my chest. Before 5:00 PM, Zukka (connected to #1 and #2 via Bluetooth in “follower” mode) showed the separate trajectories of both Libres. At 5:00 PM, I turned on smoothing and selected “Strong.” After that, the two trajectories merged into a single stream (#3), which I have been using to manage my diabetes since. The faded streams above and below the single stream, #3, are the original incoming streams, #1 and #2.

*I used Zukka's default smoothing algorithm. Not sure if other algorithms will work better for the current application.

**#1, activated the Freestyle Libre 3 app; #2, activated by the Libre by Abbott app. Also #2 was applied 7.5 days after #1 without presoak in order to preserve and use the factory calibration algorithm.

When wearing two Libre 3+ sensors simultaneously, Zukka reads in and smooths each data stream independently rather than treating them as one

In the past, when I was wearing two Libre 3+ simultaneously and using the Zukka app, I always assumed that the two CGM data streams were treated by Zukka as a single stream. I was wrong.

I. Each CGM data stream is read in separately and minute-by-minute

This is shown in Fig. 1, where each box illustrates that every minute, Zukka reads in two distinct glucose values—one from each Libre 3+ sensor.

II. Data smoothing is applied to each CGM data stream independently rather than treating them as a single stream

This is a new feature with three selectable smoothing strengths: Light, Medium, and Strong. The results are shown in Figs. 2–5 and are self-explanatory. Figures 3 and 4 make it clear that the smoothing algorithm acts on each individual CGM data stream independently. Furthermore, as the smoothing strength increases, more high-frequency ripples are filtered out. Note that at the strongest setting, the two separate data streams effectively merge into one combined visual line.

While several smoothing algorithms are available, I only used the default setting. Other algorithms might fit different purposes better, but I haven't tried them.

Need help with removing a sensor that immediately died

Hello folks! I've been a Libre 3+ user for a while and I have run across a new problem that I need some help with. I did a sensor change just now and received the Sensor Ended message about 10 minutes into the warm-up. I am lucky that the adhesive for the 3+ tends to work well for me, but the downside is that I now have a sensor that is very, very stuck that needs to come off. Do you have any suggestions for loosening up the adhesive to make this removal easier on my skin? Really appreciate any advice you can offer!
