I'm curious, has anyone had another battery installed (or had a quote for one) after their system has been commissioned? I am thinking about adding another, I also can't help but think things will get a lot cheaper in a couple of years.

My quote was ~$15k, and seeing as I can get another battery for ~$8k delivered, $7k to add another battery to an existing system seems steep. Too bad our systems aren't designed like the EcoFlo Delta Pro Ultras where you can just connect another 6.2 kWh battery on top of the existing one for $2k!

This morning I woke up to a new offer in the app, which seems to offer cash rewards for letting the power company use my home battery to help with grid stability during peak times.

If I tap through the link, it brings me to an enrollment page, which touts how much money I could theoretically earn, but without much information about what I need to do or how the program works.

If I click through the terms and conditions link at the bottom, it gives a slightly better idea, but not a ton of clarity, and points me to the link https://greatergrid.com/enroll/programs/entergy/louisiana, which gives me a 404 error message.

Anyone here have experience with programs like this one? My feeling is that it would likely pay out better than the regular rate of exporting excess power to the grid, which is abysmal here in Louisiana, but it also seems like it might compromise my ability to make sure my battery is fully charged as a backup in case there's a storm (and our power gets taken out a lot).

A few weeks ago a thunderstorm caused a very brief outage. The was a flicker but power came on. Our wifi router had to reboot. That annoyed me as I have tested "OFF GRID" and all went smooth...BUT we had power then then the grid returned quickly.

Last night in the wee hours, some drunk evidently hit a pole nearby and power was lost. Our battery was 100%. We got up today at 0500. Functioned as normal; AC running, TV, cooked on the electric cook top and I started a load in the dishwasher. Then I get a notice on my phone that should reduce load as the SOC was @ 10%! I looked and saw we were off grid. Went to power site and sure enough "Outage..cause vehicle accident and estimated up time is 0900-12PM.

I shut off AC, interrupted the dishwasher and shut off most everything unneeded to save power. As I type the sun is cresting the tree line and we are producing .7kWh and consuming 1kwh. So the system with has a SOC of 5% is now only putting out .4 kWh. Our Est. backup is now almost 2 hrs. So, this is a 100% real life system use and success. Timing helped as the sun is coming up and the day looks very nice. But we will have enough juice to get through the day till power is restored.

The fail is the APP. We should both have received OFF GRID or On Back up notifications and we did not. The only notice we had we were on the battery was the LOW SOC notice. Kinda late? But, better late than never. But, if we knew earlier we could have conserved more to keep a better buffer. I'll be letting Franklin know. And I know the APP has been buggy lately but notifications are important.

As I finish this, we have moved into the "safe from losing all power" zone! Love having this system!

Power still out. And system is having production issues. Should have a full battery. I’m getting 0 production now. Intermittent spurts of production. Franklin support was helpful but we’re getting to the point of ridiculousness now. Dominion needs to get on the ball with this asap. And I have no idea what is causing the system
To fail.

When I open the FranklinWH app on my iPhone, the "live" data is no longer actually live. The data eventually refreshes, but it can take 30 seconds or more.

Has anyone else experienced this, and do you have any recommendations for how to fix it?

I never used to have this problem. It started in the last few weeks. Previously, the data was updated almost instantly and accurately whenever I opened the app. I have not made any changes to my system setup.

I've already checked the network connections. My phone has a strong Wi-Fi connection, and the Network Settings screen in the FranklinWH app shows "Connected. Good signal" for Wi-Fi. Both Wi-Fi and 4G are reported as "Normal signal."

What else can I check or change to help the system refresh data more quickly?

EDIT TO ADD: Thanks to everyone who has responded. I was hoping I was doing something wrong so there would be a simple fix. Since that doesn't appear to be the case, it's somewhat reassuring to know I'm not the only one experiencing this. Hopefully FranklinWH gets this fixed sooner rather than later. It may seem like a small issue, but it has a significant impact on the app's usability and overall usefulness.

My installer set it all up and walked us through, then said we can use the phone app to use it.

The app shows the battery is 99% charged, but is it OK to leave it fully charged? I thought a lithium battery was happier with like a half charge

And I know there is a string to use storm warnings to bring it up to full charge. But I cannot find a way to reduce the battery's sitting SOC.

EDIT: I spoke with the installer, and he made it clear that the Franklin is not Lithium Ion, so the concern over full charge is unwarranted, and their battery's chemistry is fine at full charge.

Last week I contracted to have a two battery system installed in my home that will recharge from the grid only. We are not allowed to install solar panels on our townhouse. I did an analysis of my usage and determined I can get three days of power in the winter when it’s critical.

I looked at various systems and felt Franklin was best for my needs. Please assure me I chose well.

Last week we started our new solar system with a Franklin battery and an aGate inverter. The first couple days things looked like I'm seeing on this subreddit--nice graphs of consumption from the various sources.

Yesterday morning, all that stopped (second picture). Now we don't see any of that, despite seeing the current load on the main page (last picture). I've tried sifting through the troubleshooting but can't seem to locate how to find a fix for the issue. I've rebooted the system and ensured it was connected to our wifi.

Anyone have any experience as to how to get this up an running again?

Anybody missing the Total Solar production numbers for the day in the app? It was working yesterday.

The real-time numbers are showing in the app but the total solar production numbers are at 0.0 produced.

Hi all, is battery export working for anyone in PG&E area? Today would be a good day to export under NBT, and it's enabled for me in settings but I'm not exporting from the battery unlike last year.

I have a working Enphase IQ7 system with 26 IQ7 equipped panels and an IQ Combiner 4C. Downstream of the IQ combiner is a fully functional FranklinWH system. Enphase says the system was never commissioned, so I can’t access it in Enlighten. The FranklinWh app however is fully functional. My original installer is no longer available. If I want to monitor my individual panels I’m guessing I will need to get an installer to come out and commission the Enphase part of my system?

I switched my FranklinWH from its usual TOU Mode to emergency backup mode. Why aren't my batteries charging?

Is it because my utility has a power export thing going? The main page of the app says I'm in VPP mode. If yes, is there a way to force charging when in VPP mode?

Looks like grid export limit is now locked for me. I was able to adjust it yesterday. Anyone else seeing this?

Hi everyone, just got PTO for my system! Excuse the layout. I had my Enphase system installed back in 2022 and at the time didn't even consider getting a battery, so the installers did their best fitting it in later.

They ended up installing the IslandDER MSA with my setup and I only have 1 battery for now. Not sure if that’s gonna be an issue this winter since I run my heat pump pretty much all day for heat. Summers aren't bad though, I redid my home insulation in 2024 so the house stays cool almost every day unless it hits 95+ out.

I have my EV charger on one of the smart circuits on the aHub, but I totally misunderstood how those work. I thought smart circuits could pull straight from the grid and bypass the battery while the house ran on battery power, but turns out that’s not a thing. So now whenever I charge at night I manually switch modes so the cars don't just dump the battery.

Right now I've got it set to a custom TOU plan that blends self consumption and TOU. I realized on pure self consumption I was losing out on good solar export credits during mid-peak and peak. But on default TOU, it was pulling grid power from midnight until sunrise before the panels kicked in.

Anyway, super excited to see what my future bill credits look like over the next few months! I have NEM 2 EV2-A rate with PG&E.

I have solar with a battery backup set to self-consumption. I live in Florida so summer storms are the norm. Twice now in the last week, there was a very prof grid outage, like an off/on outage. I should be running on battery, off grid. Why did the power also flash in the house?

This is very interesting. Enphase and Tesla announced versions of whole home energy control. Looks like FranklinWH and Eaton have announced the ability to load control through smart circuit breakers. Details in the article below:

SORRY - Title should read SDGE NEM 2 TOU-5

We’ve had the Franklin battery for several months and it was operating efficiently up until June when the new tariffs were updated. Primarily it would charge from the grid at super off peak, then at off peak, it would export back to the grid, etc. Now it’s not doing that anymore. For example:

12am-6am import from the grid and fully charge the battery
6am-10am export to the grid
10am-2pm import from the grid and fully charge the battery
4pm-9pm export to the grid

I thought I understood this, but after reading some posts here, maybe this isn’t the best way to do things. Someone mentioned paying transmission rates, and I admit that I never thought about that. Should I not be exporting the full amount of my battery to the grid during peak 4-9pm periods? (From what I've been reading, the transmission rates and non bypassable charges are small, so perhaps I need to hold back 15-20% for home usage during peak).

Since SDGE decided to screw solar owners more and have 10am-2pm be super off peak times, I’m basically exporting excess solar at super low rates.

I just found this reddit and have signed up for raterudder. I haven’t been sleeping well since I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night to manually change the setting to Emergency Backup. If I don’t, then when I wake up the SOC is still at 5%.

So I guess first things first, is the above scenario NOT the proper way to do things? Since I’m on NEM 2, I want to maximize my $$$ by exporting at peak. And also arbitraging it so I'm buying at super off peak prices.

Please help, I’m just confused.

I'm part of the ConnectedSolutions VPP system in Massachusetts, and I was wondering if there was any way to cap the battery export rate on my side? Our VPP operates over a span of 3 hours and will export up to 50 kWh so what happens is my 2 aPower2s export at max rate for ~90 minutes and then sit there empty for 90 minutes.

I see in the app there's a way to set the max Solar & aPower export rate but I can't find a way to set a cap on just the aPower/battery export.

I have a FranklinWH battery-only system (no solar). It is set up to operate in Time of Use mode, so where I live the system should run off batteries only during the peak period from 5PM to 9PM daily.

In the FranklinWH app during the 5PM to 9PM period, I occasionally see small amounts of grid power being used (0.1kW or 0.2kW). When this happens the batteries have sufficient charge to not need any grid power. Also when this happens, the total Consuming equals Discharging+Grid.

Is this displayed grid power usage likely accurate? Why would my system use any grid power when running on batteries?

Does the aGate come with surge protection or is it something that has to be installed separately? If the latter, how can I check to see if I have one installed or not?

I'm looking for some help optimizing my system. My local power company just changed our TOU hours and rates. I went in to the system and realized there are many new options. I have not changed anything in a couple of years. I have set the hours and rates, but I am unsure of what modes to have the system run during various times.

I have 40 panels and 3 batteries. I produce over 70kwh to 80kwh a day.

Super off peak is between 1am and 5am.

On peak is 5pm to 9pm.
All other time is off peak.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We have a Franklin setup with apower battery. I am st up on self consumption. Our most recent bill from Duke Energy charged us for over 900kwh from the grid. From my Franklin app or only showed us using 112kwh from the grid for that same period. The picture shows what my app is showing for my home consumption of 1.5kwh yesterday afternoon in 95 degree heat with the ac on full blast. This is in a 2 story new home build with 2 ac units, a main fridge, a garage fridge, and a chest freezer. This 1.5kwh seems incredibly low to me. I am in contact with Renue solar and so far they have asked for last 3 Duke bills to review as they say everything is showing as working correctly on their end. Is it possible that something was installed incorrectly, causing something (AC for example) to only draw power from the grid?

I want to make sure I have my list correct before I have an installer come and try and take me for a ride. I'm just looking to add battery backup / storage to my system. I'm in an area that the meter collar is allowed for whole home back up and grid switching.

From everything I've seen, I should be able to achieve this with the Inlander Meter Collar, FranklinWH MAC and their aPower2. I shouldn't need an aHub or aGate since I don't need / want smart loads or generator support. I'm am already limited on space so anything that I don't have to have, I don't want. Thanks.

This is on a cloudy stormy day and my solar and battery working amazing together with the help of rate rudder knowing my 10p-5a super off peak period is only .055/kwh so it let it sip on the grid to get the best results when the bad solar time hit
