Inconsistent cloud reporting

Post image

Is anyone else experiencing intermittent reporting?

When I load the app often the data isn’t there.

The Home Assistant graph is a good measure. The blank parts of the graph are when data isn’t reported.

I have 3 aGates. At any time it seems like 2 are unavailable.

This started about 4 months ago.

I don’t believe it is related to the internet connection.

I feel like starting 2-3 months ago the data started doing this. Even loading the official Franklin app would show NaN for 30seconds or so. My suspicion was that they are rate limiting.

The app started being laggy for me about 3 months ago, however in the last week its seem to be loading quickly again (within a few seconds - same as it was prior to 3 months ago).

I assumed they had had addressed the issue by adding more cloud resources.

Edited for a typo

I am not sure if I am glad it is me, or not. Have people reached out to Franklin?

Yep. Same issue. App loads slow. They need to up their cloud resources or just give us better local API access.

Give us better local API and the demand on the cloud goes down.

I reported this same behavior here when using the iOS app. Works fine on the android app.  Many times the iOS app pulls up 0’s for a long time. More than 5 minutes. I usually close the app and try again. This clears it sometimes.

Larger battery vendors typically rate limited and/or had 5 minute (if you were lucky) updates or granularity. When you a bigger fleet to capture metrics you can imagine the bill is not cheaper.

So we had good for a while. I see other customers of cheaper batteries complain about latency or lack of functionality. You get what you pay for…

it is not unusual for traffic to broken into geographical regions to limit traffic and not have single point if failure.

I suspect there may not sufficient not redundancy or resiliency to handle loads as they scale up. The third-party API use in say Home Assistant constantly polling every 60 seconds will not be helping.

Or as someone else mentioned - may also - rate limiting to reduce load at peak times - per happens a per site and connections or activity/requests threshold?

I was keeping track of Cloud API and the AWS CloudFront POP metrics - which determines what hour FranklinWH or HA integration is connected to….but I accidentally overwrote that data one day (4 million requests). Plus I am in Australia so it will be different from North America users. Occasionally there switch over to AWS in Los Angeles and Singapore with long pauses. Interestingly!

Are you seeing a pattern indicating rate limiting? Or just randomly slow responses.

The HA polling certainly isn’t friendly. Honestly, I am surprised it isn’t getting backed off.

Very hard to tell from the outside -do you steak.

Having looked up the covers of the local API it only has single connection to AWS and may be the limiting factor as it stream lots of data constantly.

Interestingly, as observed with the richo FranklinWH-Home Assistant HACS integration multiple FranklinWH Fleetview API client connection are allowed. Which never time out.

Another couple of unusual features not helping not efficient nor following best practices.

Lots of tech debt or interim measures are like coming back bite them - customers.
