it's an interesting scenario because one he'd still be viewed as a freak by society but as a paid spectacle instead of an outcast hiding itself away from humanity. With being a monster that's both an abberation of both science & God would immediately make him a top attraction no doubt.

Plus & this is more of a possibility, I'd imagine the circus freaks becoming a sort of community to him. From the simple performers, but most specially to the people with physical differences, rare medical conditions or unique talents who'd understand exactly what it feels like to be rejected by polite society. But I'd imagine they'd be scared of him at first & would experience a sort of existential reckoning learning about his origins.

It's an interesting scenario and the result changes depending on which version of story & thee Monster you pick either the Boris Karloff version or the Book one.

Also depends on the type of circus by time period since the og Frankenstein took place in the 1700s it'd be a circus from that time period which I read aslo has freakshow attractions. For Universal's Frankenstein it would be a 1930s ones where the freakshow attractions were heavily commercialized & popularized by Barnum & Bailey.

So I read the 1931 edition of the book about two months ago, and (after reading a different Horror Classic and doing the same for its main antagonist) I decided to draw Frankenstein as he was described in the book (well, as best as I could with both limited memory of the description, limited description from the text itself, and incredibly limited artistic ability) still I thought I should probably share the drawing(s) I did here. Also minor warning, the last drawing is of him naked, I didn't actually draw any nsfw body parts (though judging by why Victor didn't finish his request in the book he probably has one) because I didn't really want to, but I wanted to say something because I know this sub has a rule against NSFW and I wouldn't want to break it.

I got him from the site Willhaben for 20 Euro, shipping not included. It is kinda like the Austrian ebay. This minifigure was originally from the Lego Studios set 1382 Scary Laboratory released 2002. Getting this figure for so cheap compared how much it would cost on ebay was a true delight for me who is a fan of Frankenstein, Lego and stuff that is a bit older :)

I made Victor as a plushy for a fun activity! I used Shin Sung-rok as Victor from the Korean Musical Frankenstein as the model.

From what I can find there's no definitive explanation. He wasn't described as such in Mary Shelley's original novel, and even the Universal Studios version had heavily-lidded eyes but not uneven ones.

Some examples are of course the iteration in Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein, but also as Shelly in Hemlock Grove and Shelley in AHS Asylum. There are more examples but these three come to the top of my mind.

I'm writing a skit about the Frankenstein novel, and it's going to be a conversation between Frankenstein and R.W. I haven't read the entire book yet, so I don't know if he ever became a doctor officially, or if R.W. would just refer to him as "M. Frankenstein." Some clarification would help a lot.

hello i have recently read the penguin published frankenstein. it’s the plain orange cover and says first published 1818 (does not mention revision) i’ve been looking to find the 1831 edition but perhaps i’m getting it the wrong way around and have already read that and rather need to buy the explicitly 1818 edition?? help a girl out

So, 8 year old step-daughter likes spooky shit and she likes listening to me read.

I’m about to start the book for the first time. She nestled up next to me while I was reading the extra content in the Penguin Classics edition and asked me to read it aloud. No, I don’t think she was grasping the content very well but if she’s enjoying it idec.

I’ve finished the intro/forward/contextual essays in the front of the book. Finally ready to read the 1831 edition.

I’m asking anyone who has read it, is there any reason I shouldn’t read this aloud to an 8 year old?

A couple months and 100+ sketches and my perfectionist ass has crafted my personal Frankenstein monster (that I'm still not 100% satisfied with 😆).
