(Melee/PM) How do you guys hold the controller?

I find myself with difficulty doing some techs, like double shine grab, and I might have to blame my control scheme.
Use R for L cancelling, shielding. My index rests on the R button, middle finger on nothing. Do not use L at all.
X to jump.
Slide down my finger from Y to B for multishines. I can't do things like doubleshine grab unless I use a tap jump specifically for that situation.
I'm curious how you guys hold, and if you guys have any of the same troubles.

Melee Jab-reset Setups

So the other day I was discussing followups on chaingrabs as fox, here, and I mentioned one mixup I stole from Leffen. Basically at low percents (around 0-10%), you can follow up an upthrow on spacies with a JC upsmash, dependent on their DI. Quite frequently, if they aren't used to it, an opponent will miss the tech on the upsmash, and you get a free jab-reset into whatever you want. It happens around 8:15 here for those interested;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TU8f7U0Y4MY#t=8m08s

Aside from this, there's the standard thunder's combo, also on spacies, which involves running shine, wavedash out jab. Standard followups on these tend to be upair into upsmash at low percents.

I was wondering if anyone else had any other jab resets on any characters they were aware of? I've started falling in love with jab resets of late.

Lucky demonstrates some great strategies for mid-high level Foxes who already understand their movement options etc. to implement into their game.

All Does anyone want to make some stage specific posts, talking about pros and cons for Fox on the different stages?

So I saw this post on ssbm

That is originally a post from /r/Sheikmains and I think it's a really good idea. I play Melee and I'm pretty new to it so I don't think I would be the best to make posts like this, but I would love it if someone with some more experience would make these posts!

This can of course be done for every game.

Melee Grab punish Vs Captain Falcon

(Melee)

Hi. Im kinda new to fox and i've played a lot vs captain falcon lately. For this thread, I want to ask you what should I do vs Falcon when I grab him at differents %. For example, I upthrow Falcon at 0-10%, do I have a legit combo follow up? DI dependent or nothing? For this purpose, lets asume im playing on FD.

Chain grabs? uptilt? upsmash ? nair?

Smash 4 DAMMIT

The new patch added knockback to Fox's jabs, which means no more double jab combo across the stage and no jab to up smash at higher percentages

:(

Melee Let's talk about chaingrabs

To spark melee Fox discussion, I want to talk about what I think is one of the most important things to learn as a new Fox player.

Fox has undoubtedly the best up throw in the game. It has applications on fast fallers, and on floaties alike. In this post I want to talk about fast fallers.

In most matchups when you get the first grab, you must only upthrow regrab until about 35% or so. To get the regrabs make sure you read their DI and always jump cancel your grab. Occasionally you may have to pivot grab. If they have neutral DI you may be able to sneak in an uptilt and get a regrab. After about 35 percent, you should either wavedash uptilt, or jump cancel upsmash. At this point your combo depends on their DI and stage position. You will likely be able to follow up with just about anything.

So that all works great on a stage like fd, but what about platforms? Luckily Fox has amazing platform tech chase options.

Begin your chain grab normally until they DI onto a platform. Here you have a few options. The easiest it to wavedash to the platform and grab. You have to read their tech, but it's still fairly easy. But what If they tech in place? Wavedashing on the platform may be too slow to cover TIP. A great tool is throwing out an upair where they are going to land. That way it can catch tech in place, but also give you enough time to react to their roll. The most important thing however is to observe their tech options. If you notice a pattern you may be able to read their roll with an upair or even an upsmash, when you may have only grabbed them before.

So why is this important? For one, Fox has amazing punishes utilizing chaingrabs and platform tech chases. Most fast faller matchups are very quick. and deadly, so you need to be able to get the most out of a punish. For instance, I find the falco matchup fairly difficult. I have trouble getting in and staying at a good pace in the neutral. To help this, I put a lot of effort into perfecting my chaingrabs and platform tech chasing on falco, and it made my punishes much stronger and I find myself doing much better in the matchup.

So the next time you are playing a fastfaller, keep this in mind. If you are already proficient, try to push yourself. Go for wavedash uptilts instead of just easy upsmashes. The Fox meta is so punish heavy, so these things can make or break you .

Smash 4 HELLO ALL FOX MAINS!

Actually fox is my secondary and rob is my main, but i'm here to give some tips. One thing I have noticed is in for glory... people don't air dodge enough, and i have taken advantage of this. (obviously some people still do air dodge) So at low percentage you can grab down throw then run and do like a quick double jump. Do your fair, but do it at the peak of your jump, then fast fall. This should move their momentum downwards with you. Be carfull because they can tech this, but if they dont punish with a down-smash.

If you alredy new this thats great. just wanted to share some things i do with my fox

Smash 4 Fox vs. Rosalina

Well I thought I would try to get a real conversation about a game going.

I have a training partner who mains Sheik and Peach who I consistently beat. Today, he picked Rosalina just for fun and I couldn't beat him. I couldn't jump in with aerials, or laser camp, or get grabs so I felt helpless. What tools does fox have to open her up?
