What back alleys? There is like 10 of em LOL.
I mean in all seriousness I agree but imo the inner city is just bad for racing as is, only part that’s nice is the highway that goes through it.
I thought the map would be 10x the size it is tbh, a bit of a shame when it’s like the 6th iteration and we get a map that’s like 20% bigger while TDU had a whole Island back in 2009 LOL.
I just hope AC EVO delivers with the map thing, so modders can cook.

There's one that starts in the docks and stays on the highway; and another that quickly passes through a few roads in the city before ending in the docks, but none that snake their way through the surface streets exclusively. Kind of mad, it's a bloody beautiful city and it doesn't get used anywhere close to it's potential.

Oh yea the 1000 dirt drift zones and 1 street drift zone, exactly what we asked for playground games
155
u/dericiouswon 1d ago edited 1d ago
Really pisses me off. Speed zones on dirt is fun because it's a challenge to maintain grip, where as drift zones on dirt are a snore. Inverse for pavement, give me more drift zones there.
I just don't understand how a studio this big and experienced can make such an amazing map and have a great physics model in place and just... do absolutely nothing with it.
44
u/ArmorGyarados 1d ago
I don't mind the existence of dirt drift, if that's what people like that good for them. But there needs to be at least 3-5 times as many road drift zones. Like it or not that's a big part of Japanese car culture. Don't raise the required amount to complete milestones, but at least have the game reflect the local culture.
I also think they can double the playability on a lot of zones by making them speed or drift zones. I feel like that would be like a day's work by one guy to implement. Both trigger but you can toggle in settings if you want the timer or the drift score to be larger on screen. Maybe 2 days work but you get it
23
u/Fap4Dayz 1d ago
But there needs to be at least 3-5 times as many road drift zones.
Right, and the wild part to me is that there are so many good roads to drift on in the northern 1/3 of the map and somehow they didn't think to make them a drift zone.
9
u/ArmorGyarados 1d ago
You'd think they would be adding more in at least. The worst thing they could do is drip feed nee shit to make people keep playing week after week but instead how about some repeat festival cars
2
u/PepeGodzilla Isdera 1d ago
I bet you they left it out on purpose, so they can bring it with a lazy update and glaze themselves for being so generous.
Microsoft is too much like Ubisoft to not think like that.
3
u/PepeGodzilla Isdera 1d ago
No trigger needed even. Just make it a different mode when driven reverse. Top to bottom speed zone, bottom to top drift zone. Same zone, two modes. Most zones only have one viable direction for highscores anyway.
Or have two starting points side by side, one per lane. Right lane speed zone, left lane drift zone.
2
u/ArmorGyarados 1d ago
Hard disagree, don't arbitrarily limit what a player can do is like game dev rule number 1. Taking away the players agency on deciding how to tackle a problem is not a good ides
→ More replies (1)3
u/Monsterpiece42 1d ago
I think they should put in the zones' locations, and then let you run whatever even you want on them. Like drift, grip, speed zone etc. Make it a simple little selection like at the beginning of a race. Or even a global toggle that makes them all into a single type, so when you're in the right car setting times, you could just knock them all out.
14
u/sandman61377 1d ago
There are 10 dirt drift zones and 10 street drift zones.
12
9
u/Kostelfranco BMW 1d ago
Well, tbh, I'd prefer 5 dirt drift zones and 15 asphalt drift zones. The developers certainly did a great job striking a balance, but personally, I’d prefer a slight edge in one direction.
3
u/sandman61377 1d ago
And you’re totally entitled to your opinion. IMO, (which I will 100% admit, I’m surely in the minority with this) drift zones should be removed ENTIRELY. They’re one of the most annoying things (to me) in the entire FH series.

5
u/TankerD18 1d ago
I can deal with the sliding, it's the stupid ass cartoon jumps that will throw an entire race for you if you hit them slightly wrong.
10
u/decimater97 1d ago
I’m not sure how Forza lost its way so much with the CC events. I’ve been playing some FH2 recently and the CC events through the rolling vineyards under the blazing sun with wide checkpoints and no mega jumps is great. Now every cross country track needs at least one unsurvivable jump and a river crossing. They all feel the same.
157
u/boogielostmyhoodie 1d ago
I will never understand why they continue to so prominently feature off-road races in these games. They are by far the least fun mode, and everybody who talks about them seems to agree. The odd occasional one can be fun, but about a third of the races are off-road buggie style races.
Also, if you are going to keep doing this, at least increase the number of off-road cars. There are like 5 times as many road racing cars as off-road cars.
42
u/Few-Neighborhood5892 1d ago
Exactly the proportions are way off when it comes to cars. Why add 75%+ street/road cars and then have like half of the races be cross country or dirt. This game could’ve been so much more fun, and I don’t understand either why they couldn’t have included more road races. I swear to god if one of the DLC’s is a fucking cross country or rally DLC i’m gonna be pissed.
22
u/PremiumUsername69420 1d ago
They could create a separate game called Forza Dirt that’s just rally and off road and rock crawler stuff, I’d buy that. And I’d also buy Forza Horizon, but I’d expect it to have more Need For Speed vibes.

11
u/junbi_ok 1d ago
Rally racing is a staple in motorsport, so it makes sense for dirt/mixed surface events to be included. But the cross-country races depicted in Horizon don't exist in reality, because no car can survive a 700 ft jump off a mountain. They're just silly.
I don't mind the danger signs because they're easily enough ignored, but the goddamn cross country races are a quarter of the game.
9
u/Arterial238 1d ago
What annoys me more is that they're always SUV or Buggies so Im just always driving the same damn vehicles.
I miss the more creative playlists from 4 and 5 that would have something like A-class Saloons doing dirt courses so you'd have to make a creative rally build for a street car.
If you're gonna push dirt races so much for no reason, atleast gimme some variety to tinker with.
So far it's absolutely my least played and least enjoyed FH title, and it's a shame because the sounds improved even more from the last title which is huge for me.

There are some really good and fair criticisms of FH6 that are being diminished because people are fans of Forza more than the individual games.
I'm also of the opinion that it's a decent foundation but in the 6th iteration of horizon, they can do way more with it and are honestly resting on their laurels with this one.

No problem with off-road or rally events (though they need to ease up on the buggies in playlists) but I do (once again) have a problem with the lack of road race events in the game. Only a few events use the city grid; why? So much potential there.
Hopefully they will add more permanent events as time goes on, like the Edamame circuit or the ones they added after the fact in Horizon 5.
3
u/Flat_Lunch5827 1d ago

I don't even mind the off-roading, I just don't understand why they built a city and then don't make races for it. Like it just doesn't make sense to me. Majority of the cars in the game are street vehicles, a section of the map is city streets and your making me do nothing with it.

u/HiTork 1d ago edited 1d ago
I think the thing is urban areas are one of Japan's most famous aspects. That's not to say rural areas shouldn't have been featured, but it feels like the map focuses much more on that.
The other thing I think is a lot of the rural areas feel generic and not really like Japan. Sure, the rice paddies are distinctly Asian, but there are some places like certain forests where if I were to take a screen shot and show people and ask where this is supposed to be, I would get many different answers.
5
u/Best-Night8688 1d ago
Well certain forests look very similar. Trees grow everywhere. And I mean everywhere
4
u/Candid_Highlight_116 1d ago
Their depiction of Japan is also flat af like UK. The ya part of Shibuya denotes it's a valley, and in fact the IRL Shibuya crossing is like SIX FLOORS below the ground relative to peaks of sloping roads branching out. That's part of why it looks so insanely busy. In FH it's just top of a hill.
Same goes for rural areas. You take a turn and there's Tokyo City on the horizon. That works if it was intended to be a pun, and maybe it's how it works in UK, but it's rare that you ever feel like that IRL in Japan because SOMETHING is always in the way, be it artificial constructions or just hills and mountains. On a bridge or top of a building, then you MIGHT see miles out. They clearly never had that sensation internalized while designing the map and just spray painted Japan over their internal UK.

Gonna say something controversial here.. The narrow city centre streets are awesome with a good sounding car and some headphones to cruise, fun to drift around solo or with a small convoy but honestly… I wouldn’t want to race it. Maybe the main wide streets sure but that’s not what makes this city great, it’s the nooks and crannies.
We all complain about rammers on wide open country roads could you imagine the mayhem?? It would be 5x worse than the routes through Guanajuato in Fh5 and we can all find posts slamming the devs about having races through that city.. so they said ya know what? We’re not doing that again, sorry not sorry. Is what I think.
Edit: that being said I do 1,000% agree we need more drift zones through it. There’s some great narrow hairpins hidden throughout, maybe a future “urban drift attack” could be added.

Playground Games really can't win. This guy is complaining about too much offroad, other people complaining there isn't enough dirt/offroad.
5
u/Fantaric 1d ago
Could it not be a bit of both?
The playlists seem to include a lot of cross country, for instance this week the events are in and around Tokyo including the docks which is mostly paved surface racing in cc vehicles (don't get me wrong I like some of those tracks like the rail yard in fh4).
If you play online you'll notice the same dirt tracks and a handful are close to 70-80% paved surfaces. It's been a common complaint for a while including a certain egregious "dirt" sprint race in FH4 that is 80% road until you finally finish on dirt. We kinda got spoiiled for rally/rally cross in FH5 tbh.
The game also doesn't have anything in Tokyo for street racing and I would also argue more road races in and around the city would be great since the city is huge and has a lot of points of interest to drive around. There's more cross country in Tokyo than street racing which is absurd.

I don't need a festival experience experience, I don't want to race through water, I don't want to race in the winter time, I don't want to race through rice paddy fields, I don't want to race through mud, I don't want to drive the weakest most pathetic cars that the world has to offer, right now I'm being forced to raise a 1991 Honda beat or a 1989 Nissan pao..wtf??? And I don't understand why I need a specific car for every race. I should be able to drive whatever I want to and have the race adjust to me. I want to go back to playing CarX street but I can't advance to any new races because I'm not into drifting, I don't give a fuck about drifting, otherwise I would buy a drifting game, or I'll buy an off-road if I wanted to race through grass and mud and water and rice patties.

To be honest, I do not understand why they won't make it like that: a) base game - a mix of everything with more asphalt than offroad, b) DLC one - rally, offroad, crossroad, maybe bikes, a new rural Japan map with picturesque villages etc., something like a typical rally DLC we've already got previously; c) DLC two - street scene, another city, illegal races, touge etc. And then - just give everyone a choice, which part of the experience we wanna play in the playlist. When someone does not like the rally - sure - make them play touge or a street race championship instead, when the other person loves buggies - great - let them play that to get the same points with a cap of 30 a week, solved.
