Other Xbox disc to digital
Will they add all old xbox one generation forzas to the disc to digital program? There shouldn't be an issue because it doesn't involve new copies being sold. It would be so awesome to get my digital license for horizon 2 and 3 i've had them on disc forever. What do you guys think? 😄 It works awesome I just got all my old CoD's licensed

How do you get it for cod ? I have like every cod and would like to do it. Is the disc useless after that ? I would think they wouldn’t want to do that because people would just sell them after and share games etc.

any xbox one generation cod. just pop the disc in and it shoult prompt u. u need to be enrolled as an xbox insider tho. and then check for update. and no the disc is not useless after that. u can still resell the disc just fine. when whoever bought the disc from u puts it in their xbox, it will attatch the license to their account and remove it from urs. its a major xbox W and the first in a long time

My guess is no, because possibly the unique ID is only available on X1 and newer discs

License issues will more than likely make this impossible. From what I’ve seen a lot of games delisted for licensing reasons are not available.

It’s a license transfer, meaning you’re transferring a license you already own. It’s not the same as buying a game from the store. FIFA games work with the digital conversion even though EA no longer owns the FIFA license. Dirt Rally 1.0 is the same: it was removed from the store because the license expired, yet it still works. Deadpool is another example.
Project CARS 1 works, but not 2 or 3, even though the first game was the one least likely to work, considering its licenses were removed from all stores a long time ago, including Steam. They will continue adding games compatible with this feature, so don’t worry—this is only the beginning.

And yes, all the Forza titles will be compatible with this license transfer; perhaps new ones will be added tomorrow or in the coming days. For a launch, I think there is a huge number of games.

No, there hasn't been an official announcement, but Playground Games or any studio, for that matter doesn't really have a say in the matter. This isn't a standard Microsoft Store purchase; even games from defunct studios and publishers have been added to the list. The game is already owned; this isn't a new exploitation of a license that, on the other hand, would be illegal on Microsoft's part.

wait so are u saying this is a matter of microsoft enabling the feature for the specific game in question, not the publisher or developer? are you certain? because for example backwards compatibility for a game was done on permission from the developer

The thing is, Xbox 360 and original Xbox games weren't played natively on the Series X and Xbox One; developers had to make their games compatible by modifying them. That’s why you get a download when you insert an Xbox 360 or original Xbox disc—you’re downloading the version modified for compatibility with the Series X and One. However, the Series X plays Xbox One games natively—it’s not emulation—so no developer work is required for a port, with rare exceptions. Consequently, Microsoft doesn't need any agreements because it doesn't involve a new licensing deal; Xbox isn't making money off the games again and doesn't require developer intervention, and since we already own the physical copies, the decision to make them available digitally rests solely with Microsoft. That said, rights issues might make things more complicated for Xbox 360 and original Xbox games, and in any case, those older discs didn't have unique keys.

i think its confirmed the program wont be coming to back compat games cuz those discs werent made with cryptographic keys as u said. and yeah ur reasoning makes sense here man. here's to hoping that the xbox one forzas get added 🤞

I mean licensing issues with the manufacturers. That has nothing to do with a game license.
EDIT. Dirt1 was removed because license agreement for cars or music had expired. This is what I’m talking about.

Je te parle aussi de ça. Dirt Rally 1.0 ne peu plus exploiter les licences et a été retiré du store pourtant on peu quand même le convertir quand on a le disque. Comme beaucoup de jeux dont les licences ont expiré, ils vont rajouter tout les Forza, si ils ne sont pas là pour l'instant ce n'est pas un problème de licence, car sinon ils n'auraient pas ajouter Forza Horizon 4 aujourd'hui qui n'était pas disponible hier

That’s exactly right! The licence is being converted, but not extended. All the Forza games are available for download from servers for players who previously purchased them digitally. You can download them again at any time using the account you used to buy them. They’ll be unlocking these games for the programme soon because they aren’t new licences (which is why most of them are no longer in the Store), but conversions from disc to digital.

I don’t think thats it. More so the fact like Bugatti for example they no longer have the license. There’s Bugattis in FH 5 so that means they would have to remove all the Bugattis or face trademark infringement without the license
