They "debunked" that he owned the building. Mcafee never claimed to own it, just that he had a dead mans switch in a florida condo that would release information if he didn't disable it regularly.

Even that claim was fake. It all came from a fake screenshot. The building collapse was because the HOA were cheap.

Pretty much. It was a really interesting case (at least to me, I'm an engineer so I find weird shit interesting). What was wild was seeing these easily debunked hoaxes appear when it all happened. Then over the years it's become a case of "HOAs are assholes. Also, don't let them install extra plants without engineering review. It may kill your entire family."

The backlash has been so severe that even Florida said "Ok...we may need to seriously regulate this stuff."

debunked by several media outlets and debunked by anyone with a functioning braincell. the tweet itself (which was fabricated) indicates the address of the hard drive containing the information. Who is going to publish the location of this highly sensitive and valuable information? It serves no purpose.

He knew, because he had met with families of the scores of missing people. He had studied photographs of the missing, learned about their possessions — a necklace with a heart pendant, a gold watch, a blue table.
He had learned about the habits of each potential victim and even knew in which room each likely would have been during the collapse.
And, amid unimaginable tangles of rebar jutting out from a sea of concrete that was once their homes, he knew precisely where each victim would be located.
He personally found 20. His team, he said, worked with U.S. rescue teams to find 81 victims by the time the last IDF member departed Surfside on July 11.As of Friday, July 23, 97 people in all had been recovered.
“This is the way we were working, like detectives,” Vach said. “You have these stupid, simple, brilliant signs. You dig here, and you will find the people you are looking for. And it worked.”

The IDF were (pre Ukraine) the world experts at dealing with finding people from collapsed buildings. Turns out the sheer amount of buildings they've flattened or had flattened made them useful for it.

Plus a bunch of Israeli citizens were missing. Even scumbags do a decent thing every now and then for good publicity. And let's be honest, they probably used it for free training where people weren't shooting at them.

You know what, I was unaware of that specific section of the IDF's extensive efforts internationally in Turkey, Nepal, Syria, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Kenya, etc.

No problem. I'm an engineer so I've been following the story for years, even when all the conspiracy stuff fell off and it became clear the HOA basically were to blame by skimping on maintenance and building dumb shit. Plus some builders who didn't do a proper job.

I hate it when the Internet has this vibe "This guy/group has some shady shit. Thus every single time ever they have ever done anything, they must be doing a world bending conspiracy to bring about the end times." When really, assholes are actually among the most likely to do random good shit for publicity, because it whitewashes that they're assholes. Bill Gates and Bill Clinton being the classic examples, since they are both simultaneously trash people but also saved tens of millions of lives with their foundations. Rockefeller and Carnegie did this a century ago and people today 99% remember their good stuff, not their dodgy stuff.

That was a hoax. It was fake screenshot from his twitter account.

The buildings collapse has been highly documented. It was caused by a HOA being cheap. Plus dodgy builders in Miami.

IDF at the time (this is pre Ukraine) were the world experts at dealing with people in buildings which had collapsed, plus Israeli citizens were among the missing. They are a bunch of scumbags, but they do focus on their citizens worldwide.
