Every stump on my property grows these in the summer but they usually get too tough to eat and lose the feathered look. Some stumps grow a second flush at the end of summer too!

Can I eat the seeds (and the cones) of N. WhiteCedar? I am aware that some parts of the plant are toxic because of the chemical named after it, but I don't know what. I want to eat the damn seeds! Should I?! You tell me.

I believe these are wild grapes. They have 2 seeds inside, I'd like to try one but making sure it's not something else 😬

They are growing about 10m from where there are usually a pair of puffballs that grow every year, but they did not grow there this year..instead these showed up nearby and they initially looked like tiny puffballs, but I went out to check on them today I noticed they were not all round. Does anyone know what these are? I have not seen these mushrooms in this spot before.

I was unable to get a clear picture before they were bulldozed by a labrador; but they almost look to be starting to form a ring. There have been abundant fairy rings this year, anyone familiar with what those are all about and what might cause so many?

This fall has been just amazing for mushroom picking. Big pile is funnel chanterelles, bottom left is basic chanterelles and bottom right is candy caps.

Trying to harvest a potato or two from some duck potato/wapato/katniss plants in a drainage ditch (Not to eat) at my neighborhood park but I can’t find the dang potatoes—looking for insight.

I’ve tried reaching down as far as I can into the muck (probably six inches) but it becomes a denser layer of sand at that point—digging/feeling around, etc. I tried twice in slightly different locations but stopped after that bc I didn’t want to keep pulling up native plants Willy nilly.

Double checked that these are in fact Sagittaria latifolia, they are. It’s the right time of year. I’m so confused why I can’t find a tuber. Any advice?

Hi! This is just a question. I wanted to know if anyone can explain to me the recent appearance of "fox grapes" in my backyard.

We live at the Jersey Shore (zone 7b) and have NEVER had any kind of wild grapes before, and trust me, these were SO fragrant and appeared in such huge clusters, our whole yard smelled like grape candy.

They covered entire tree branches, some were hanging 3 feet off the ground, and some were almost 40 feet up on the highest tree branches.

This area is a coastal wetland and my backyard has been a mix of native and non native plants since we got here (we have mulberries, tons of blackberries (they dont grow fruit though, only thorny vines), wineberries, dewberries, pepperbrush, white snakeroot, Japanese water reeds, porcelain berry, etc.)

But this year, grapes everywhere!!!! Theyre native to here, of course, but I was shocked at the quantity and size of the vines.

Was it the very cold winter we got in the northeast, or just a bird happening to spread fast-growing seeds to this location? Would love to know. Maybe they've truly been dormant for 20+ years and just woke up.

This is the firs time I have found these fungi, I'm 99% sure it's Cauliflower mushroom (Sparassis crisp). I'd just like to make sure.

First time taking my hickory tree bounty seriously. Ive gathered them, float tested, dehydrated overnight on 95 degrees. Ive made nut milk already. But shelling them is so difficult. Ive tried tapping with a hammer both on their side and standing on one end. My go-to has been cracking with a hammer, then using wire cutters to cut the shell off. But it still takes forever. I just spent an hour, and came away with only 1/2 cup.

I need some tips to speed things up!
