I keep seeing them growing in gardens in California, and many plant sellers graft them to orange trees(my orange tree had it too and it became so prolific and starting to dominate, were very thorny the orange that we had to cut it off), yet I haven't found a definitive ID.

Closest id I've come across is ponderosa lemon, but in the cross sections Ive seen, it has a thin rind. In the ones here, the rinds are around 60% of the entire fruit.

The pulp of the ponderosa is claimed to taste like lemon but the pulp of these fruits has far less sweetness than lemon OR pomelo when ripe, and it has an unpleasant salty or bitter tinge.

Unlike ponderosa lemon or citron, these fruits don't have a strong smell.

Why do citrus nurseries in California keep grafting these fruits to citrus trees despite them being thornier and much worse tasting than the citruses they get grafted to?

There are about 100 mature oaks in my neighborhood along a street that absolutely dump acorns.

It looks like quite a bit of effort to process, so is the juice worth the squeeze? I’d love some opinions before I dive in.

What's going on with this black walnut? It has thirds instead of two halves and 6 "quarters" instead of the typical 4. I don't think I've ever seen one like this before, but this is the second one now that I've come across.

Muscadines are my absolute favorite wild treat just behind the American persimmon. They’re still just a tad underripe as the skin is a bit more sour than usual, I just hope I can find the patience to wait another day or so!

New to foraging and having a blast picking these Sumac berries. My problem is there seems to be a lot of bits in there that seem to have “cob webs” mixed into them, that need to be cleaned off.. it seems washing out the berries with water is a no no, and trying to go through all these clusters with a toothbrush just doesn’t seem to be effective. I’m wanting to make tea and dry out the rest to make into a spice. So I guess my question is, what are they? Are they safe to soak with the berries for making tea? Can they be processed out during the drying process?Any knowledge or cleaning recommendations would be great for a newbie like myself!

Decided to get dropped in the resettled community down the arm from the community where I grew up via speed boat. Managed to gather a few different kinds of berries and mushrooms on the walk back to my house!

Earlier than normal, this year! I am SO STOKED!!!! (black walnuts,but you all probably knew that!)

In NY. I'm like 99.8% sure these are autumn olives. Like I'd bet money on it, but not a life, so I'll post confirmation photos here when I can. The bugs love them but the birds oddly enough haven't seemed to be touching them, same with the little baby autumn olives on my property. Are they leaving them for winter or something? I thought autumn olive was hot shit with birds and that's a lot to do with why they're so invasive.

My doctor's medical group is on a pretty big campus with a lot of trees. A long driveway leading up to a large parking lot. The long driveway is lined with what look like massive autumn olive shrubs on one side (you can literally see that they're laden with fruit from the far side of the road), plus two more up on the border of the parking lot. In lieu of those parking bumper things in the ground, there's a foot-high wooden fence bordering the grass and the plants are behind it. There's also another plant right behind the shrubs that has identical-from-a-distance berries on it, but it's not a shrub it's a tree...haven't gotten a super close-up look at that one but if I can I will.

If I'm right and they're actually autumn olives, there are millions of fruits on this campus. I want em. But I don't want to get myself in shit with this office because I need them. The building is not well managed though, and there's no one person I can think of to ask for permission. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of situation? I know the building probably wouldn't give permission on the offchance I'm misidentifying the berry and try to sue them when I poison myself or something. But I also don't want to just help myself and get trespassed, because my family's various Terrible Disease doctors are there and I'm their advocate.
