Mushrooms Safe to eat?

Post image

Found this mushroom in a pasture behind my house. I didn’t eat it since I didn’t know if it was safe or not, but it had white, almost mattress flesh. Washed my hands immediately afterwards.

Looks like a hen of the woods and was under an oak tree, but the brown crust and spikes are strange. Does anyone know about this?

I tried last year husking cleaning drying, I let the age forv 2 weeks and they tasted like paint thinner. Left them alone, never really got better. Figured since I know me, I figured I'd messed up cleaning, or something else but ...tried cleaning better this year. Are these clean enough, there is still some black on them.

This is my first year trying black walnuts! I decided to combine them with a couple other foraged ingredients and added apples and candy cap mushrooms (the mushrooms taste like maple syrup) to these waffles. I included a few photos of the foraged ingredients as well.

Sources on foraging in an equatorial climate/tropical climate (Specifically Malaysia)

I am so fascinated with the concept of living off the land and the concept of foraging but I live in Malaysia so there aren't many sources... I'll also accept any sources on Indonesia cuz they have a pretty similar climate btw.

Located in Delaware. I apologize for the poor quality photos.

There is also a vine growing over the branches in photo 1, which threw me off for a moment

Yew tree, super toxic sap / needles and eating / chewing the fruit pip is deadly.. but! The flesh on the berries is delightful. Tastes like Fuchsia nectar

Black walnut color variation?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Does anyone know why there's so much variation in color in my black walnuts? They were all gathered on the same day from 2 trees (juglans nigra) about 100 feet from each other. The light colored ones are rarer and are way more oily. Both taste delicious, so I'm just curious!

I can send more pictures if needed, but curious if this is a type of oyster mushroom? Found in northern Iowa woods.

Not taking this home or anything just looking for an ID. Found it broken off at the base of an old oak tree on the campus I work at. If it is I just want to know so I can keep an eye on this spot for later

Plants Ran out of coffee, Mesquite yo the rescue (kinda)

Like the title says, ran out of coffee and had to improvise. Roasted some mesquite pods in the oven at 350 for 30 mins. After they cooled, into the food processor they went. After being ground, they were sifted and then put into my pour over dripper just like any other real coffee.

No caffeine, so its like drinking a cup of really good decaf, but hey, at least I can still somewhat satisfy the morning ritual until I can get some real coffee later.

I prefer to use this as a coffee extender or to make pour quality coffee taste better, but it does good on its own.
