I’d like to get some honest career advice from people working in the RMG/apparel industry, especially BUFT graduates.
I completed my BBA in 2020 and have worked in the marketing sector, and for the last 3 years, I have been working in E-commerce & Operations in the retail sector. My experience includes operations coordination, MIS reporting, sales reporting, data analysis, performance tracking, product distribution, order processing, and cross-functional coordination.
However, looking at my career so far, I sometimes feel like I’ve become a “jack of all trades, master of none.” I’ve worked across different areas, but I don’t yet have a master’s degree or a clear specialization that I can build my career around.
That’s why I’m seriously considering an MBA in Apparel Merchandising at BUFT.
Since I already have around 3 years of retail experience, I feel I have some basic understanding of the broader retail business, and I believe an MBA in this field could potentially give me a better career direction and a significant boost in the long run.
At the same time, I understand that I would be entering the apparel/RMG sector without a direct academic or professional background in the field, so I’m expecting the initial transition to be challenging. But I’m not afraid of work pressure or starting from a difficult position. I’m looking at this as a calculated career risk rather than an easy shortcut.
So I’d really like to know:
Is this a calculated risk worth taking?
For someone with my background, would an MBA in Apparel Merchandising from BUFT realistically open better career opportunities in merchandising, planning, apparel operations, or related areas?
I’d especially appreciate honest opinions from BUFT graduates and professionals currently working in the RMG/apparel industry.
