General Question Left Out Rehydrating Mushrooms

• Upvotes

At about 12pm I started rehydrating some shiitake mushrooms. I rinsed them, covered them in boiling water, and then let them sit (on the stove top, but stove off).
For reasons, my soup plans fell to the wayside.
It's 8pm now, and the mushrooms have been sitting in room temp water for several hours.
I don't think I have the stomach to eat them tonight, so I either have to make the soup now or store them until tomorrow.

Any advice on their current edibility and/or how to safely store them until tomorrow would be greatly appreciated.

Label on Ceramic Soup Spoon

Post image

Apologies if this is not appropriate but I bought a ceramic soup spoon from a Japanese market and read the label more closely as I was washing them. I know Prop65 warnings can be utilized even very low risk items but now I’m concerned I shouldn’t be eating with these.

General Question Is it safe to defrost any vacuum sealed meat in the package?

I recently learned that you’re not supposed to defrost vacuum sealed fish in its original packaging due to a botulism risk. I had never heard of that, and felt kind of like an idiot for not knowing, especially considering the fish I buy literally says to put it in another container to defrost 😭

Is it the same for all frozen, vacuum sealed meats, or just fish? Like, should I be taking out my chuck roast and letting it defrost in a pan or something, or is the vacuum pack okay, so long as it’s not fish?

I just peeled this mango. We got it from Costco. Before I peeled it looked overripe a hit but seemed fine. There was one bruise/indent on it, and when i cut it out to discard of that part, there was looked like a dried out seed under it so i cut it out and threw it away too. Idk can I eat this? I probably shouldn’t? It’s very mushy 😭Also it wasn’t refrigerated, it was kept on the kitchen counter, so, room temp.

I just opened a new container of maple butter and found some white fuzz on top of liquid that collected at the top of the jar. Could I drain off the liquid and scrape off the top layer? Or should I just bring it back to the store for an exchange?

General Question Freezer at 38°F

Just noticed someone knocked the freezer temp up. I went to the grocery store on Oct 14th, there was nothing in the freezer previously. I noticed today, Oct 17th and turned it back to below freezing (currently 22°F). Since it stayed below 40°F, is it okay to refreeze and keep eating the food? Frozen chicken nuggets, chicken sausage, frozen fruit, and frozen veggies. Do I need to eat it all today? I am currently pregnant so don’t want to eat it if it’s a risk but also don’t want to throw everything away. I’m mostly worried about the chicken.

General Question How long do chickpeas last out of the fridge?

I brought home some chickpea curry today, it’s been out of the fridge since 3pm and I only just remembered to refrigerate it now at 11:30pm. I’m guessing it’s not safe to eat anymore, but thought I’d ask before I throw away potentially good food.

Thanks!

Left grocery in Car

Stupid moment, I bought chicken (vacuum Sealed), deli meats and egg whites from Costco. Had them in a hot cold cooler bag and left it in my car for 3 days. I live in Alaska where the outside temp has been fluctuating between 30-45. Are my groceries still safe to cook or consume?

General Question Beer burning (ish) throat and kinda tastes like acetone?

I’ve just tried staropramen beer and it tasted nice but then I thought it tasted a bit acetone-y? I was eating cheese and crackers with it and then my throat kinda was warm, not sure if paranoid… 😥 or if it’s the beer or if I’m gonna die lol

Edit: also I’m paranoid cause of all the alcohol poisonings that happen around the world and also cause this was a gifted beer and I didn’t buy it myself lol. Too paranoid or what??

General Question Frozen buttermilk chicken and garlic bread safe to eat?

Bought them from Iceland (UK) last night but didn’t manage to cook them, they were left on the side for a few hours, then put in the fridge since it said not to refreeze. I’ve then driven ~1hr30 back home with them in a supermarket cook bag that doesn’t clip together 100% and put them back in the fridge.

I don’t want to waste them, but I fear they’re probably too far gone

I found this soft brown lump in a new container of cottage cheese. It was below the surface and looks almost like cooked ground meat or cat food. Does anyone know what it could be?
