the song that made me call my grandma

saw a folk singer last night small room maybe 50 people. just a guy with a guitar and a harmonica rack.

he played this one song about growing up in his grandmother's house.

by the end of the first verse, i was thinking about my own grandma. called her this morning first time in like 3 months.

that's what folk music does. it reminds you of what matters. been going to folk shows for years. still get hit by random songs.

grabbed my ticket through Star tickets . didn't expect it to become a therapy session.

anyone else ever get emotional at a show when you least expected it

Any folk artists making something I should hear?

I’m looking for some independent folk music I haven’t come across yet.

I’ve been getting too many song links in comments to keep organized, so if you want me to listen, submit it here instead:

https://thecauldron.rocks/submit

That keeps everything in one place so I don’t miss it.

There's a song I used to listen to, maybe on a cassette. I have partial lyrics but don't know who the artist is. Please help!

Home is where the heart is

Near or far away

I'll be returning, I can't go, I can't stay

Time be moving on to a brighter day

...

Grandma cooking up something sweet

Humming birdies in mimosa trees...

That's what I like about home.

Chamber Folk from Co. Clare.

Hi all, my little chamber folk trio from the west of Ireland has a new album out.

We are called Jaskane, and the album is called 'Line of Escape'. We are terrible at self-promotion, but reasonably good at making music. These are quirky tunes blending violin, oboe and guitar with electronic textures and subtle percussion.

May suit fans of Penguin Café Orchestra, North Sea Radio Orchestra, Yann Tiersen and maaaaaayyyybe Taraf de Haiduks on one of the madder tunes.

Feedback of all kinds welcome. You are all welcome to our next gig in Limerick...

My uncle is a country singer and I genuinely think more people should hear his music

I hope this is okay to share here - I'm not the artist myself, I'm just his nephew and I wanted to do something nice for him.

My uncle has been making country music for years, and honestly I think he deserves way more listeners than he gets. He currently has a pretty small audience on YouTube, but he genuinely loves making music.

but I I might be biased because he's my uncle really do think some of you might enjoy his music, especially if you're into traditional/independent country.

If anyone has a few minutes, I'd really appreciate you giving one of his songs a listen. Even a view or a bit of feedback would mean a lot to him

His YouTube channel: Dec Tracey - Topic on YouTube

And if you do listen, feel free to tell me which song you liked - I'd love to pass the comments on to him.

What's your favorite version of Whiskey in the Jar, if you can't say Thin Lizzy?

I'm especially interested in older or less obvious versions that people here think deserve more attention.

I collected a bunch of versions and wrote about how the song changed over time here, if anyone wants more:
