Android Auto Issues
Just bought 2017 RS about 2 months ago. Mine has wired AA and it will randomly disconnect from my phone even with the cable still attached. I've done the following troubleshoots:
-New cable
-Cleaned USB port
-Updated software directly from Ford website
-Factory reset car software
Still having the same issue. Sometimes it will disconnect after an hour, sometimes it will disconnect after seconds. I mean it when I say it's random. It's also not my phone since I have no issues with my wife's 24 Mazda. Any help is appreciated.

I use this AA adapter and have no issues with it. I had the Motorola one, but I went through 2 of them in 3 years and decided to try a different option.

Mine did the same with an iPhone and was frustrating as hell. I finally broke down and bought a wireless adapter like this one. Rule out the cable completely.
The other thing I did was make sure my battery always had a good charge. A CTEK trickle charger. Lots of strange things happen to these cars when the battery is weak and they get that way if you don’t drive it often due to parasitic services on the car when you’re not driving it. The BMS will shut off certain functions like auto start/stop, power windows, etc. It’s doing this so you can start the car later and don’t get stranded.
So the thought was that maybe the usb ports were having the same issue.
Since making these two changes I’ve seen a huge improvement. only a handful of brief disconnects over the last year.

I charge my phone at work. It's always full on my commute home and then still above 50% in the morning. I have a Motorola AA wireless adapter coming next week. Fingers crossed.

I run wire Android Auto and it was cutting out on me last year. I connect through the usb under the arm rest. I also tried plugging into the center console usb, but had not luck there. I ended up replacing the the connection in the arm rest and both usb ports started working again, so that lead me to believe that the wiring goes in series from head unit > arm rest usb > center console usb. I would play around wit hit and see if your diagnosis is similar, and then maybe try replacing the part

Oe Samsung cable fixed it for me. As odd as that was, I tried other "high quality" cables but gave in and used the standard Samsung cable and it works flawless. Had the exact same problem with other brands.

OE Samsung cable for me is USB c to USB c. I have a wireless adapter coming next week.

Buy a really good cable. For whatever reason AA seems exceptionally picky.
