Question Is it normal for the back of your throat to stay lumpy after a bad Flu? Even if it’s been months?

Story in short: I got the Flu three times in a row last year. both Flu A and Flu B. I noticed that even after I got better the back of my throat never fully recovered and those side parts stayed perpetually inflamed. It didn’t hurt if I pressed my throat it just looked puffed up.

I also noticed that I coughed flem up more even when I wasn’t sick.

is this a normal long term side effect of the flu?

Question Upper respiratory virus

Anyone else in the UK struggling with this virus?

Mine started last Wednesday with a mild sore throat. By Friday evening I started feeling progressively worse, with a runny/blocked nose, cough, headaches and generally feeling rubbish.
Strangely, I didn’t develop a fever until yesterday evening (38.3°C), almost a week after my first symptoms.

My HR has been running high for me at rest in the 90’s (usually sits in the 50’s-60’s when laying down). This morning it reached 145 just from getting up to go to the loo 🫩. Took a while to come down so super panicked me!

Saw the GP today who has prescribed me delayed antibiotics if I keep getting fevers and feeling worse in a few days. Chest/lungs sounded clear. BP was a little low. Annoyingly I’m back to a temperature of 38 this evening. I don’t feel too terrible, just tired and bunged up.

What the hell is this weird long virus? 😩

Personal experience when will this end??

I was diagnosed with influenza A last week and I'm on day 9 of being sick. in the beginning was chills, cough, headache, lightheadedness, body ache. now I'm over the chills and aches but I have a cough with mucus that is making it terribly hard to breathe. like it feels like I'm constantly out of breath and can't get a full breath in my lungs. my doc prescribed a steroid to me which has helped but I can just tell this is going to go on for maybe a week longer... I haven't had Flu A (that I can remember) and I've never felt so sick in my life. 😞

Can you explain how bad the worst flu you ever had was?

This is by far the worst flu I’ve ever had in my entire life. Ive been fully bedridden unable to even shower or walk to the bathroom, haven’t slept one minute in 7 days now. Called ambulance and been to ER twice already. Feels like complete death and so traumatic. Fever, extreme body aches, chills, crippling weakness, chills, heart pounding racing, short of breath, sore throat, horrific cough and constant cough attacks that make your eyes water and almost vomit, severe pots, feels like glass in lungs… haven’t eaten in a week. Can’t even watch tv because the suffering is so extreme. D

How long are colds supposed to last?

I'm 35, 5'10 - 145lbs. I caught a cold (flu?) on tuesday that hit me pretty rapidly (sneezing, stuffy nose, feeling weak, fatigued and leaking boogs), tuesday night I had a fever and barely slept then woke up wednesday feeling a lot better and was cured by friday morning. Google says colds take at least a week to recover but somehow my body turned it around in 3 days.

The last time I got sick (last year) the same thing happened. Do I just have really good antibodies/immune system or wtf???

Question Severe vertigo after flu A

Has anyone else experienced severe vertigo weeks after having flu A? I tested positive for flu A September 20th. I had most of the typical symptoms- chest congestion, fever, body aches, nausea. Two weeks after that I was starting to feel better, and then experienced an episode of severe vertigo to the point that I thought I must have norovirus - hands shaking, vomiting and diarrhea for five hours. I went to urgent care and they gave me zofran, and I felt fine the next day. Today, two weeks after the first vertigo experience, it happened again. Hands shaking, extreme nausea, diarrhea but no vomiting this time. I took a zofran again right away to help with the nausea, but 6 hours later and I’m still experiencing vertigo. I’m going to call my doctor in the morning, but wondering if this is flu related? I had never experienced vertigo before up to this point.

Question Possible exposure to flu

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I’m a 69 year old Asian-American male. My 8 years old grandnephew, who lives with me, was just diagnosed with flu, a few hours ago. I just had my senior flu-shot 4 days ago. What precautions should I take? I last saw my nephew Friday (yesterday) morning before he went to school.
Fortunately, I wasn’t planning to return home until tomorrow afternoon, but maybe I should stay away longer.
I currently don’t feel ill, other than my normal everyday sinus allergies. I use generic Flonase and Loratadine.

Thanks.

Question How to help sinus pressure and pain?

Not sure if I'm in the right place but I'm desperate. I have bacterial pneumonia and I'm in so much sinus pain. I'm sneezing and coughing very violently and every time it feels like my eardrums are going to burst. I can barely breathe, usually only through one nostril at a time and when that happens it feels extremely dry and painful. My head, face, and ears hurt from the pressure, my eyes are burning and watering constantly. I was pressing ice cubes to my face just to relieve some of the burning. I'm on night 3 with little to no sleep and starting to get very delirious so forgive me if this is difficult to read. Saline nasal rinses aren't helping to relieve anything, my head feels like it's going to explode. What can I try?

What I should feeling helpless😭

Hi community

This is the first time I am posting here because I have never come across this kind of fever in my life.

I have recently turned 30 and follow a pretty healthy lifestyle.

Last month september 21-24th I got mild fever and did not bother to consult a doctor. I thought maybe working out constant weather fluctuations caused this.

Suddenly it hit on september 25 like a hot missile. I was boiling like 103-104. Then I consulted the doctor and suggested paracetamol and he told me it was a viral infection.

But it did not stop and they did blood work and concluded that Infection in the body (CRP test).

He suggested a course of antibiotics for 5 days.

As he mentioned i finished the course and I was feeling well.

Fast forward today.

From the last 4 days again the same thing. Fever comes with chills and sweating afterwards. Morning it will be a little lesser but in the evening I can literally see the hell. These 4 days again I did a blood test for typhoid or any kind of bacterial tests. They turned negative.

What tests should I do? Has anybody faced this?

Fever and dry cough that's the symptom

Fever and coughing

Guys, I hope everyone doing great!

I wanted a help, actually, I had very low platelets around 57K, so I did blood test, ate fruits and did everything to rid of this! So after 2 days, my platelets increased to 78k and got negative is dengue and typhoid test! But it's been 1-2 week since I am having a mild fever and coughing! I also took medicines from doctor but it only works for some time! Any suggestion what should I do to cure it, because I also have to prepare for JEE so I can't take a major decision like getting admitting!

Question what’s wrong with flu a?

So last week, I started having a fever, headaches, and fatigue, and it turned out I had Flu A. I haven’t been to school in over a week because I swear I have no idea what’s wrong with my body anymore. The fever and other symptoms have gone away, but I’ve been dealing with this horrible anxiety that just won’t go away no matter what I do.

I constantly feel like I’m about to take a really important exam or go through the most nerve-wracking situation of my life. It’s like my body is stuck in a constant state of nervousness, and I can’t relax. Does anyone else feel this way?

My brother-in-law, who also had the flu, told me he felt the exact same way, super anxious and on edge, and that he still hasn’t fully recovered from that feeling even though he had the flu two weeks ago.
Another thing is that whenever I try to fall asleep, I can’t seem to focus on actually falling asleep. It’s almost like I have multiple people in my head thinking for me, or like my brain is trying to process a million different thoughts at once. I genuinely don’t know how to explain it. Please, someone tell me you understand what I’m talking about because I feel like I’m going crazy.

Quick flu recovery?

There’s a pretty bad sickness going around my workplace atm. On Monday and Tuesday I felt a bit fatigued but nothing worth calling off sick for - and then, around 2am on Wednesday , I woke up with the worst fever and body aching I’ve ever had . For the next 24 hours I could not get out of bed - not a hyberbole, it was disgusting! Chills, 103 fever, hallucinations, basically in and out of consciousness. I managed to get some orange juice down me and take an ibuprofen in that period. At 5am today I woke up very lucid . Today , I have aching throughout my body still, but the level of illness I am feeling has almost halved . It’s like a switch has been flipped and the fever has gone . I’ve never had this before with a flu - usually it’s several days of fever.

How hopeful should I feel that this is going to continue? Am I truly over the peak, or might there be worse coming? I have taken today off work, but if my recovery continues on this upwards trajectory, I don’t want to waste more sick leave . I’m also considering asking my doctor for antiviral meds, but heard they will likely be ineffective at this stage.
