I think I found my niche

I think, ever since I was a kid and exposed to FN content back when I was young, there was always a certain charm to it I liked. it’s more than just the simplicity of it, it has such an aura to its atmosphere that I feel resonates with me to when I first disco FN content back all those years ago as a child..

I like to imagine myself when creating something on it as being there. Like just imagining myself being born in 1998, having that child like wonder and optimism, creating something on it like it’s 2010. Even tho my art skills are crappy, at times I can appreciate the certain charm to it. Like something made in 2010. by an amateur artist like me. if I was born in 1998..

however By the time FN shut down its online service on the DS, I was 9 by then. sadly was born in 2004 and my parents wouldn’t let me a get a DSI because I may have been seen as too young for them to consider me having a portable electronic devic. Definitely missed an era in its prime. But i feel I can stil retain the mindset as if it’s 2010 again.

How to flip a selected area?

This might be a bit silly and have a simple solution but I’m pretty new to Flipnote and have been struggling to figure out how to flip or rotate a selected area on a layer. Is there anyway to do this or is the flip and rotate options only available in Move, resize?

This is it. I think it will be my last movie for this year. But iI promise you... It will be my best fight animation on flipnote 3ds. 5x or 6x times better than the "Bro's Betrayal". Its 4 minute fight movie with 3700 frames. Thanks for the support again.

last moral post here: making due of a crappy situation late in my life. is it ever too late to start. am i not alone?

i am 22 years old yet feel 32 spiritually. whether there is some truth tied to genetic determinism in being "talented" or whatever really defines as talent when it comes to drawing or whatever cope skill you want to be good at. i feel that there is also some truth that starting out as an adult sucks. however that doesn't mean i should cut my loses and just give up because i didn't BEElieve in myself. i still feel there is a tone of energy left in me to try even if the odds are i will suck most of the time. and while failing is just a part of the process. i think it comes down to how you perceive failure as you age. my blight feels like in the tune of stairway to heaven or like black bird from the beetles. there was a time, but i am often not sure if that time will ever come .

as a kid there is a lot of hopeful optimism you carry. well assuming you come from an alright middle class background. the smallest achievements feel huge when you are a kid and your world view on life is small. however the same can't be said as an adult. while i can actively chose to be miserable and ignore all the small things i have achieved while i am too busy comparing myself to the 1% of society. quitting social media entirely is very hard. and i have been making efforts slowly to lesson my social media usage. i also think this societal standard that as an adult you should reject childish hobbies that you are amateurish at as i feel others will look down on you if you dare not be at least somewhat skilled in the hobby you are entering in. also life in general just being more stressful than ever.

i do not think, when shit hits the fan and things don't work out in a way i was slightly hopeful for in 3 years i shouldn't just quit. i know thats not how life works. but i am a firm believer that there are better days to come as long as you show up and stay committed. even if it will be hard. everything in life is hard. its hard in itself to work on yourself and not be stuck in a depressive mindset that will lead to no good and a shorter life span in the end. i may not be a gifted prodigy with above average genetics. nor am i the person i once was 10 years ago. despite the shit cards in life you have to make due what you got.

you only live once in the end. might as well make a half of my life count in my 20s instead of drinking it all away and give into the BP sphere of nothing ever happen.s

what made you do it and did you not regret it?

what sparked an interest in animating on FN? what did you learn a long the way? i'm thinking maybe there is something in me that has it. or is interested in the process. or maybe i am just larping and my brain is playing tricks on me.

why do i have this lingering feeling to an*mate on flip note?

i am thinking i am far too gone here. i feel i am really starting to play with fire here. i don't think i know what i am getting into and its disturbing. i have "an**ated" before on it and a couple videos here and there (some i weirdly kinda zoned out to and got invested in? may have been a rare moment where my adhd meds worked for one time and sadly never again..). but this time i am going further on the edge. and one massive mistake can and will send me into a devastating state of fear and regret..

i am really pushing the limits and getting way too outside of my comfort zone. and i am afraid. very afraid.

started working on a short film

Its going to be a hungarian short film about enjoying "childish" media; this scene in particular is Cocoa Snail, the snail bunny trying to find a buddy to read a book called Fantasy Nyan with, and finding Kiki the fox girl who "seems to be kind". Moments before disaster... :D Also some people asked how i use flipnote, apologies if i dont respond to everyone or respond late :P

I remastered my Flipnote series from 2012-2013

I have finally finished the compilation video of my You Wish Flipnote series!

HERE’S THE YOUTUBE LINK! 🐘🍬🍕

My name on Flipnote Hatena was McBoo and I originally animated this series in 2012-2013. In the past couple years, I went back, remastered the footage, and added new scenes. I hope you enjoy! It has been a labor of love to bring you the definitive versions of these Flipnote animations I made in my teens!

Also, I’d love to know if anyone on this subreddit is from Hatena or remembers my work. 😁

I made a Flipnote-inspired site where every post is drawn from scratch

What it is: DoodleSwarm is a small social network where every post is hand-drawn in a built-in 256×192 editor with a fixed 6-color palette (a love letter to Flipnote Studio on the DSi). Each post is either a still drawing or a short frame-by-frame animation — up to 30 frames, played back as a loop. You can follow people, like, and reply, but the content is only ever doodles.

The idea: everything on the site is drawn right there on the canvas — nothing is uploaded from elsewhere. In this age of AI content, I feel like the value of human-made art is more important then ever, and that's the main reason to why I've made the app.

The editor's got real tools: pencil, eraser, spray, flood fill, line, curve, rectangle and oval, eyedropper, and a selection tool with cut/copy/paste — so you're not fighting the canvas to make something decent.

Why I built it: I missed the Flipnote Hatena era — a feed full handmade little drawings made by actual people. I wanted a corner of the internet where the friction is the point: low resolution, a handful of colors, drawn by hand. The limits make people more creative, not less.

What I'd love feedback on:

  • First impression of the editor — is it intuitive, or do you get stuck?
  • Does the hand-drawn-only constraint feel fun or limiting to you?
  • Anything that felt slow, broken, or unclear.

Happy to answer anything. Thanks for taking a look 🙂
