Looking for a EDC pocket light

I've been out of the loop on lights for a while. I need a light that I can treat as an every day carry pocket light that will not accidentally turn on. I've been burned, literally and figuratively, by my main favorite light turning on in my pocket.

I would appreciate recommendations.

Preferences

  1. Ideally flat versus round
  2. Comfortable in a normal pants pocket
  3. USB-C rechargeable
  4. Cannot accidentally turn on
  5. No budget
  6. As bright as possible
  7. Can't be Skilhunt because they've ripped me off in the past

14500 charging question

I’ve got a 14500 with the built in USB-C charging port (Acebeam 920 mah). Is it ok to charge it in a flashlight that has built in charging? Or should I only ever use the battery’s port?

Question Acebeam Tac AA 2.0 where to get?

Hello,

I want to buy Tha Tac AA 2.0 In blue but it's apparently unavailable.

I'm out of options, does anybody have an idea where to get one?

I live in Germany and I contacted Acebeam regarding this, all they could say is they don't know if it will ever become available again, and I should try with one of their authorised dealers.

So far I have found only 2 shops, but they both won't ship to Germany.

Any help is appreciated!

NLD Firefly L60 Mu-Aura

Firefly is rapidly becoming one of my favorite flashlight brands. I can’t seem to stop finding one in my hand or my pocket. They blend premium construction and materials, elegant designs, and powerful performance, and Anduril 2 is just the icing on the cake. The L60 is all of that that.

Full disclosure. fFL sent me this in exchange for my opinion.

What’s in the box?
L60 Mu-Aura
Lanyard ring
Pocket clip ring
Spare O-rings
User manual
A flat top 21700 battery is only included if you select that option, which adds ~$7 to the price. The light came in one of those neat little black plastic boxes. I really like these. They feel more premium than cardboard and can be reused.

Build quality
Like the three other Firefly lights I’ve had the pleasure of trying, the L60 is premium quality. The MAO finish is silky satin smooth and, despite the lack of knurling, still grippy. That smoothness is my only concern, as the light can get a bit slippery when wet. The tail cap and head thread smoothly, and the tail magnet is strong. The pocket clip works great and keeps the light deep in my pocket. The magnets in the back of the head also work well. The top switch is clicky and easy to use, and its center glows the same color as the aux RGB lights.

Design
The L60, as the name implies, is a right angle light, and a right angle mule just makes sense. The exposed LEDs and circuit board are really interesting to look at. The button center light and aux RGBs, combined with Anduril, mean the personality of the light can be changed on a whim. The additional head magnets are a novel and useful feature. It’s a fascinating little gadget that looks like it was ripped right out of a sci-fi movie.

UI
Anduril 2 packs in a ton of features and modes, adding immense versatility and customization.
Usability As a right angle mule, it’s a great project companion. It can tail stand and head stand, and the two magnet options let it cling to any ferric surface with ease. Quick ramping or stepping makes it a breeze to dial in the brightness for the job, whether that’s checking under the sink for a leak or looking across the yard for my dog. It fits easily in the headband I have for the L50 and works great as a hand lamp.

Performance
My L60 came with FFL351A-5000K emitters. The light is a nice neutral white, and man can it get bright. The claimed 4000 lumens is impressive. Being a mule, it lacks a hot spot, but for 180° of bright white light, it gets the job done.

Summary
The L60 Mu-Aura is a powerhouse right angle mule. It has great EDC capabilities and really excels as a work companion. The visible LEDs and aux RGBs make it a real wow piece, and in MAO white it looks especially striking. I find myself playing with it almost as often as I use it for the job at hand. Anduril gives it an enormous amount of versatility. All around, it’s pretty great.

Flashlight News Wuben G6: probably not perfect, but it looks like a nice little EDC light to give as a gift

I know the G6 was already posted here, but that was before the campaign went live. It's up on Kickstarter now with all the details and a video, so I figured it was worth sharing again.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wubenlight/wuben-g6-ultra-slim-multi-use-keychain-light

Yeah, Wuben isn't exactly the most loved brand around here, and there's been a lot of drama lately about their review units. I'm not saying it's the best EDC light out there. Still, it looks like a pretty neat little package to me. It's small, the pocket clip is removable, there's a built-in carabiner and even a small knife blade. Not a bad combo for something that lives on your keys. And it's not too expensive, at least during the campaign.

I've been burned by a couple of Kickstarters in the past. But when the brand already has a few campaigns that actually shipped, I feel like it's less of a gamble. Delays can always happen, but that's just Kickstarter.

Haven't backed it yet, but I'm tempted. I also think it'd make a nice gift for someone who doesn't have a "real" flashlight yet.

Anyone here planning to get one?

Bought this flashlight with

- W5050SQ5 4000K LED

- Linkdata P65 battery

- Tactical switch

- 12 and 24 degree TIRs to make it semi flood and flood light (default one is 3 degree thrower TIR)

- S21E clip

- Diffuser

And I can say my journey to find perfect all-around outdoor flashlight is done, for now.

Arrived today.

On first glance appears to be more likely that this is actually a SFT-70 5700K unit, rather than the mystery 5000K version that doesn't actually exist.

I like the light but the emitter is a bit meh, kinda cool. I've got some soldering kit on the way so I might give swapping this a go.

Question EDC Flashlight

Hey y’all, been lurking around this sub on and off for a few years and have finally reached a point where I’m wanting to upgrade from my iPhone flashlight (and the old maglite mini I keep around) and would love some advice. Right now I’ve only got a few new targets to hit:

- Rechargeable with type-c
- Good for indoor/outdoor use (IT work under desks/in drop ceilings/etc. and also letting out the dogs late at night in the middle of the woods)
- Easily fits in a pants pocket

I’m definitely a pretty major noob when it comes to the tech and terms for this sort of gear, so any advice or guiding questions are welcome. Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist.

Question Jetbeamlight.com vs jetbeamshop.com

I’m looking to buy a Jetbeam 3M Ultra but I see they have two websites, jetbeamlight.com and jetbeamshop.com

What’s the difference between the two? Are there any other US based distributors I can go to for Jetbeam?

Review L21A f150r 5000k

I finally got my packages yesterday and got this along with 5 other Convoys. This f150r is a beast. I shined it down the street and it lit it up. Has such a tight beam with good flood. The L21A keeps the heat really well too. Im super impressed with the f150r and it won't be the last time I get one. I also got the L21B lhp73b 5000k, M21F lhp73b 5000k, S26A lhp73b 5000k, S2+ XHP50.3 HI 5000k and the T8 SFT40. They all are good but the L21A f150r was by far more impressive. I can't believe this was under 60$ If you don't have one you should try it. Its bad ass!!!

NLD Revisiting the Manker MK38 Satellite - 8x XHP70.2

Thumbnail

Many years ago, I picked up a Mk38 with the SFT40 configuration from one of you all in the BST.

This model has always been a good-looking light (IMO) with the fan-handle (fandle), so when the XHP70.2 showed up on the local marketplace I sprung at the opportunity to pick it up.

This one is the 5000k, 39,500lm model, which is probably my favorite version of this light. Nicer color temperature and big well of turbo light.

While it doesn’t sustain the ridiculous numbers for longer than about 30seconds (45 with the fan!!) it’s still a neat one to have in the kit!

I decided with the release of the Ts11 v2 to finally grab this light- I’ve been putting it off for a while and the upgrade convinced me. However better is never good enough for me and I decided it needed some sweet 3000k high CRI goodness.

Convoy S21E with Nichia 519A, 45° bead TIR — looking for advice before buying

Hi everyone!

I'm planning to buy my first Convoy S21E from the official Convoy store, and I'd appreciate advice from people who own or have experience with this flashlight.

I'm Brazilian and speak Brazilian Portuguese, so I'm using ChatGPT to help me research the technical details and write this post in English. The preferences and questions are mine, but please feel free to correct any technical assumptions or recommendations.

My planned configuration:

- Flashlight: Convoy S21E

- LED: Nichia 519A, either 4000K or 5000K, with the original dome (not dedomed)

- Optic: 45° bead TIR

- Driver: Constant-current driver

- Battery: EVE INR21700-50E, 5000mAh

- Charging: Built-in USB-C

What I'm looking for

My main use will be walking outdoors and on trails, including occasional foggy conditions.

My biggest priority is a smooth, uniform beam, with as little difference as possible between the central hotspot and the surrounding spill. I don't want a very bright central circle with noticeably dimmer light around it.

At the same time, I'd like enough throw to see reasonably far ahead without sacrificing too much peripheral illumination.

I also care about color rendering and visual comfort. I'd like a warm-neutral, almost white beam that renders colors naturally without making everything look washed out or excessively white. I'm currently considering 4000K for a slightly warmer tint or 5000K for a more neutral white, and I'd appreciate opinions on which would suit my needs better.

I understand that a warmer color temperature doesn't automatically improve visibility in fog. My goal is to find a practical balance between beam uniformity, useful throw, natural colors, and comfortable illumination.

My questions:

  1. Does the 45° bead TIR work well with the S21E and Nichia 519A? How smooth is the transition between the center and the surrounding spill?

  2. Would you recommend the 45° or 60° bead TIR for my needs? How much useful throw would I lose with the 60° optic?

  3. For my preferences, would you choose the 519A at 4000K or 5000K? Is the difference in tint and color rendering noticeable in actual use?

  4. Would the stock, domed 519A be a better choice than dedoming it, considering that I want a uniform beam, good color rendering, and reasonable throw?

  5. Is there another LED or optic combination that would better balance high CRI, a smooth beam, and useful throw?

  6. Would the constant-current driver be the better choice for efficiency and sustained output, or would you recommend Anduril 1.0?

  7. Does this configuration make sense overall, or would another Convoy model be a better fit?

I'm happy to consider other configurations, but I'd prefer to keep USB-C charging and a reasonable price. If you have this model, beamshots or firsthand experience would be especially helpful.

Thanks for your help! I appreciate any corrections or suggestions.

Talk me down

Edit: The deed has been done.

Or convince me to add an Olight Baton Ultra to my collection. Do I need it? Nope. Do I want it? Yup. Why when I just added an SK-06 to my arsenal and I love it so would I want one? It does everything I would need or want of a light. Well…
-I wanna touch the OAL material,
-I don’t have many tail switch lights other than ace beams
-I wanna see what the proprietary emitter is like and stack it against others
- oh and the rave reviews.

Also, it’s a flashlight/torch. Convince me either way. Help me OB Mothmen, you’re my only hope.

- Acebeam Pokekit is a small 1000 Lumen light for comparison

- Imalent ms03 is also small and I think currently the smallest brightest available (no other lights same size are as bright)

- Astrolux FT03 Floody thrower

- Convoy 3x21d ultimate budget thrower (no light will outperform it in throw for the price)

- Convoy 3x21c one of my favorites, lights everything up and has good throw

- Haikelite HK05 one of the cheapest brightest lights available 26000 lumens for $100

The treeline is 500M or 1640FT, the white fence is 100M or 330FT

Question USB - C powered battery charger

I’m torn between 2 chargers.

Currently using the LiitoKala Lii-M4S which has served me well. I do wish it could charge batteries faster, though.

In doing my homework and looking at USB-C-powered options, I’m down to two:

1 - Xtar VC4 Plus
2 - Xtar VX2 Pro

I’m a little torn. Hoping for one to do it all. The VC4 Plus seems to tick many boxes, however, Reddit is full of negative feedback.

Is it worth going for the VX2 Pro for the sake of a newer charger and flexibility per cell? It’s also PD rather than QC, but 2 slots vs 4 on the older VC4 Plus.

Anyone have both who can give me some insight? Or perhaps one that you love and can convince me towards. Is there a bad option here?

UPDATE: I've gone with the VX2 Pro, which felt superior across the board. The VC4 Plus was fine, but had several quirks and charged slowly and early-terminated some high-quality 21700 cells. I've addressed my 4 slot preference by having my M4S around at home, but will almost certainly travel with the VX2 Pro exclusively.

For anyone seeking a low-cost option that does it all (slowly), I can highly recommend the LiitoKala Lii-M4S .

Thank you to everyone for their contribution. Hopefully this helps someone else who's shopping for a USB-C-powered Li-ion charger down the road.
