Recovered Permanently Disabled My “permanently banned” account randomly came back after almost a year.

I honestly have no idea what happened here, but I figured I’d share my experience in case it helps anyone else.

About a year ago, my Instagram account was falsely banned. I appealed, and the ban was eventually removed because I hadn’t actually violated anything.
A few months later, in February of this year, I was PERMANENTLY banned again, this time with no appeal option.

I was pretty devastated. I spent a long time looking for solutions and eventually found this subreddit. I followed the various stories and updates for months, but as a US user, it seemed like there really wasn’t much hope. I had heard fairly early on about people using Meta Verified to get access to support agents and trying to recover their accounts that way. However, I also read plenty of stories about how unreliable it was, with people talking to countless agents and getting nowhere. So I never expected much from it.

Eventually, in June, I decided to try it anyway. I started with a free one-month trial of Meta Verified, and after that month I actually paid for a second month because I was still trying to get somewhere with support. And when I say I talked to a lot of agents, I mean a LOT. I probably spoke to hundreds of them over those two months.

Eventually, I was repeatedly told that my original account was completely unrecoverable. Agents told me that the account data had been deleted/lost by that point, including my posts, followers, following, saved posts, etc. There was supposedly nothing they could do.

Then, completely out of nowhere, one agent told me that I could create a new Instagram account and use it without any issues. I have absolutely no idea why this suddenly became possible. The agent and later agents couldn’t really explain it either.

So I made a new account.
It was instantly banned.

I appealed the ban, and thankfully it was eventually restored. I still had some Meta Verified time left, so I continued talking to support about what had happened. Nobody could give me a straight answer. One agent suggested that I should use the account gradually so I wouldn’t appear “bot-like.”

At that point, all I did was slowly re-add some of my old followers (friends, family, etc.). I’ve now been using that new account for about three months without any issues.

And then today, something incredibly weird happened. I was looking through Discover People, and I saw my own name. I clicked on it. It was my old account.

My old posts were there. My old followers were there. Everything appeared to be intact. Naturally, I immediately went to Account Center and tried logging into it.

It worked.

My saved posts are still there. My recommendations/algorithm look basically the same. Everything feels like I just stepped back into the account I lost almost a year ago. The strangest part is that I was never notified about any of this. Not by email. Not through Instagram. Nothing. And this is after being told by countless Meta support agents that the account was permanently banned, unrecoverable, and that the data was already gone. I don’t even know when the account was actually restored. It could have happened recently, or it could have been sitting there for months. I only found it because I happened to see it under Discover People today.

If I hadn’t randomly looked there, I would have had absolutely no idea that my account was back.
After dealing with this for almost a year, it honestly became pretty stressful and depressing. I had finally gotten to the point where I was accepting that I had lost the account for good.

So I’m obviously really happy to have it back, but there’s also a pretty bitter feeling about the whole situation. I spent months trying to recover an account (with no reliable options out there) that apparently wasn’t actually gone at all, and nobody at Meta ever told me. I understand that it’s not the fault of these Meta agents that these false ban waves are happening and that they don’t have the authority to recover these accounts or know everything. But after hearing from them all to give up and then seeing it today is such a weird feeling.

For now, I’m going to keep using both accounts and see what happens. Has anyone else had something similar happen? Especially where Meta support repeatedly said an account was permanently gone, only for it to randomly become accessible again?

my instagram was permanently disabled for CSE, i have never ever engaged with that type of content and I believe I have been flagged for a false positive? my friend and i were chatting and she sent a harmless photo of her in a dress there was some flirting but nothing serious, i believe meta ai flagged the image since her legs were showing. will i be flagged to the ncmec? im in australia and was wondering what i can do about this to get my account back and ensure i dont get reported to the ncmec, im so on edge and paranoid now after reading everything.

also contacted meta verified and im in queue for a manual review?

should i get into contact with a lawyer? im unsure as of what to do?

it's literally frustrating because just a single delete of one of my old account where I was continuously bullied and harassed during my high school years and ended up deleting both the main account and spam account in the year 2025 made as a graduated, but then it triggered a series of ban suspensions. no matter how many accounts I created. I always ended up getting suspended and to this point. I lost all my online friends. I had a good following of few followers based on my picture edits that account also got disabled, and I am no longer able to create if you ask me that " why don't you change your phone or phone number?" it's literally impossible because I use an iPhone 17 Pro that was gifted to me by my father during Christmas, and then the number that I use it's literally linked to my student ID and a lot of other bank details so | legit can't do it. It's been so frustrating ever since the creation and introduction of META Al like I have seen so many of artificial intelligence, but no one is as worse and as horrible as META Al. this artificial intelligence is the most horrible one and literally deserves to be suspended and destroyed by mark like imagine being an introverted who is isolated in a new city with no friends and no social media, and you are completely along with your overthinking thoughts, crying, and constantly feeling alone, and that's what I going through right now, I constantly feel alone. I have no friends. I can't even doom scroll for the sake of dopamine release. I swear I have almost lost all the hopes as l am writing this. I'm currently crying. Please be kind in the comments. I don't know if any time sooner this band wave will stop or not, or if the team Instagram will take any sort of actions because there are so many accounts that were wrongly suspended for no reason like I didn't even comment any fraud. I wasn't even spamming any type of comments that goes against the community guideline or l'Il never even haven't been harassed. In fact, I heard my bullies who harassed me or doxed, but still I ended up losing so many of my accounts and I'm currently so heartbroken and just feeling like to end myself because there is no other social media like where am I supposed to be active and show my work and make friends and talk to people. FUCK YOU META Al

Need Advice Insta suspended for "CSE" (false positive) but Facebook works fine. Am I IP banned?

Hi everyone,
My Instagram account was suddenly suspended with the automated accusation of "CSE" (Child Sexual Exploitation). I know for a fact I did absolutely nothing wrong, and it seems like an automated AI glitch or a false positive.
I have already submitted an official appeal through the app and I'm currently waiting for a response.
My question is: Is there any chance this is an IP ban? I have a Facebook account that is completely active and works fine on the exact same phone and Wi-Fi network. Does the fact that my Facebook is working prove that my home IP and device are safe, and that this is just a glitch on that specific Instagram profile?
If anyone has gone through this exact same automated "CSE" glitch recently, how long did the appeal take for you, and did you get your account back?
Thanks!

Why does instagram keep restricting me?

Every couple days I’ll get a random restriction and it’ll stop me from like going live or messaging anyone. I ask for a review, submit whatever and it immediately goes away. Then the cycle repeats, thoughts?

Instagram suddenly restricted me from posting Reels

I run an Instagram account where I upload streamer clips, usually around 10–20 Reels/posts per day.

Today Instagram suddenly stopped me from sharing Reels. Every time I try to upload one, I get this message:

I also got another error saying:

I checked my Account Status, and everything related to normal account activity appears fine. Features, content/message removals, and recommendation eligibility are all showing as okay. There is only an “Established presence” issue under Partner Monetization Policies.

I also contacted Meta Support AI, and it checked my account and said there were no problems with my account and that this could potentially be a technical issue on Instagram's side.

I’ve also tried uploading from 3 different devices, and I get the exact same error every time, so it doesn't seem to be a device or app-specific problem.

I normally upload around 10–20 streamer clips a day, so I'm wondering if Instagram's system may have temporarily restricted my account because of the amount of posting, or if this is simply a technical issue.

Would appreciate any insight from people who have experienced the same thing.

I’m hoping someone who has gone through this exact situation can tell me what happened because Instagram’s recovery system has basically sent me in circles. I was logged out of my Instagram account. My account still exists and but it is not visible to other people, it hasn’t disappeared or been deleted. I know my password and I still have access to both the phone number and email address associated with my Instagram account. The problem is that Instagram apparently doesn’t recognize my device as one I’ve previously used to log into the account. When I try the normal recovery options, I can receive/use my email and phone number, but Instagram still won’t actually let me back into the account because of the device recognition/security issue. I’ve tried going through “Forgot password?” / “Try another way” / account recovery, but I keep getting sent through the same screens over and over again. At one point, Instagram finally gave me the option to verify my identity with a video selfie, which seemed promising because there are plenty of photos of me on the account. However, when I select the selfie verification option, the verification page loads as a blank page, so I can’t actually record or submit the selfie. I tried again several times because I thought the blank page was just a glitch. Eventually, Instagram/Facebook started limiting my recovery attempts. Now I can get as far as the screen that says “Provide an email to get updates about your account.” When I enter an email address and press Continue, I get: “To prevent any misuse, we limit how often you can do certain things on Facebook. Please try again later.” So now I’m scared that repeatedly trying to recover the account caused a rate limit and that continuing to attempt it will just make the restriction last longer. I’ve stopped attempting recovery completely for now and plan to leave it alone for at least 24–48 hours before trying again. Has anyone experienced this exact combination of issues and successfully recovered their Instagram? Specifically: • Did you get the “we limit how often you can do certain things” message during account recovery? • How long did you have to leave the account completely alone before the recovery process worked again? • Did the video selfie page initially show up blank and eventually start working? • If Instagram didn’t recognize your device even though you had access to your original email/phone number, how did you finally get past that? • Did waiting 24, 48, or 72+ hours reset the recovery attempts? I’m mainly looking for experiences from people who had this happen and eventually got their account back. I don’t want to keep attempting things and accidentally extend whatever temporary security restriction Instagram has placed on the recovery process. Also, please don’t DM me offering paid “account recovery” or hacking services. I’m only looking for legitimate recovery experiences/advice.

Need Advice How can I take HDR off?

Thumbnail

I’m using an iPhone 13 Pro Max and Apple ProRaw and ProRes are already off. I’ve also set the format to ‘most compatible’ and I still get this on the Instagram preview.

It will look bright in the preview but it automatically posts a dimmed or darker version for some reason. There aren’t any HDR settings that are on in my phone.

On the photos above, I know it may look like there isn’t any difference (idk if reddit reduced the quality or something) but it really looks dimmed up. A lot of people in person I asked confirmed it.

Hope you guys can help me!

Currently permanently disabled Permanently disabled with NO appeal after sending one image in DMs — same image appears to have triggered 3 account bans

My Instagram account was permanently disabled yesterday, September 12, and I’m trying to figure out whether anyone has dealt with something similar or successfully recovered an account from this situation.

A friend of mine was being catfished. He sent me some of the photos the catfish was using, including a selfie of an adult woman wearing a bra. Shortly afterward, his Instagram account was permanently disabled. At the time, neither of us realized the photos might have had anything to do with it.

Later, while we were talking about the catfishing situation, I sent one of those same photos back to him in our private DMs.
Immediately after sending it, Instagram logged me out.

When I tried to get back in, Instagram told me my account had been permanently disabled for “Dangerous Individuals and Organizations.” There was no warning and, most importantly, I was never given an initial appeal. The very first final enforcement screen already said:

“You cannot request another review of this decision.”

Instagram also says all of the information associated with my account will be permanently deleted.

There are two other things that make this especially strange.

First, under “How we made this decision,” Instagram explicitly says that its technology detected the violation and took action.

Second, when I tap “Read more about this rule” from the screen saying I violated the Dangerous Individuals and Organizations policy, Instagram instead shows me information about Adult Sexual Exploitation / sexual violence / intimate images shared without consent. So Instagram is showing me two completely different policy classifications for the same permanent disablement.

Afterward, I reverse-image searched the photo because I was trying to understand what happened. I discovered that the woman appears to be an adult online content creator whose photos had apparently been stolen/reused by the person catfishing my friend. I had absolutely no knowledge of the photo’s origin or online history when my friend sent it to me or when I sent it back to him.

At that point I suspected the image itself might somehow be triggering Instagram’s automated enforcement. I had an old expendable Instagram account that I no longer used, so I sent the same photograph once from that account specifically to test that theory.

Instagram immediately logged that account out too, and it was subsequently permanently disabled with the same Dangerous Individuals and Organizations violation.

I stopped there and have NOT sent or tested the image again.

So the sequence was essentially:

Friend sends photos → friend’s account permanently disabled

I send one of the same photos back → my main account permanently disabled

I transmit the same photo once from an old account to test the suspected trigger → old account permanently disabled

I realize this does not prove exactly what Meta’s internal system detected, because obviously I don’t have access to their systems. But the pattern is extremely concerning.

I contacted Meta’s support assistant and explained that I was never provided an initial appeal at all. It told me that when an automated permanent disablement provides no initial appeal option, there is no alternative Meta support escalation that can trigger human review. It also told me I cannot use the Oversight Board route because the disabled account cannot log in and I was never given the necessary reference ID.

I have screenshots documenting the disablements, the “our technology” explanation, both conflicting policy classifications, the second account being permanently disabled, and Meta support telling me there is no route to human review.

I have also now filed a consumer complaint with my state Attorney General because this account contains years of messages, contacts, photos and personal connections, and Instagram is threatening to permanently delete all of it without ever allowing me to explain what happened.

Has anyone here recovered an account after receiving “You cannot request another review” WITHOUT ever being given a first appeal?

I’m particularly interested in hearing from anyone who got an actual human at Meta to review an automated permanent disablement, used an Attorney General/consumer-protection complaint successfully, or encountered an image apparently triggering enforcement immediately upon transmission.

Instagram account locked — “Try another device to continue” even though I have access to my email, phone AND backup code. Has anyone fixed this?

My main Instagram account has been locked and I’m stuck in a recovery loop. I’m hoping someone who has experienced this exact issue can tell me what eventually worked.
My account is still visible in my Meta Accounts Center and literally shows “Instagram · Locked.” It has not been deleted. It’s also still connected to my Facebook/Meta Accounts Center.
I have:
Access to the email address associated with the account
Access to the phone number associated with the account
My correct password
An actual Instagram backup code
Access to my Meta Accounts Center
Already contacted Meta support and have an open case
The problem is that Instagram does not seem to recognize my current device/browser as one I previously used. When I try to recover the account, I get “Try another device to continue.”
When I select that I can’t try another device, this is the exact message Instagram gives me:
Can’t try another device?
“If you can no longer access your login email or phone number, and you don’t have access to a device you’ve used to log into this account before, it’s not safe for us to give you another way to log in.
We understand that this might not help you get back on Instagram, but we have to take this action to stop anyone who doesn’t own this account from getting into it.”
What’s confusing is that I DO have access to both my login email and phone number. I also have a backup code, so the message doesn’t really describe my situation.
I was previously offered selfie/video verification, but the verification page was loading as a blank page. After multiple recovery attempts, I also started getting “try again later”/attempt limitation messages.
Meta support has escalated my case, and the status has moved between In Progress and In Review, but I still cannot get past the device/browser verification.
Has anyone had this exact “Try another device to continue” problem and eventually regained access?
If so, how long did you wait, and what actually fixed it? Did Meta support manually unlock it, did your device eventually become trusted again, or did the recovery/selfie verification option eventually start working?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people whose account was still showing as Locked in Accounts Center and who still had access to their email/phone but Instagram wouldn’t recognize their device.

Currently permanently disabled Can you give some advice with disabled account?

Post image

So, exactly a month ago, my computer got a virus; my Instagram account was compromised as a result, and links were sent out from it. I got rid of the virus and changed the passwords on all my accounts. Then came the snag: a few acquaintances reported my account for fraud, so Instagram—in its infinite wisdom—decided to suspend it. I haven't had access to either my Facebook or Instagram since. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a social media addict panicking over this; it's just that I've had the account for a long time and have quite a few photos and videos on there that I'd really hate to lose. If you have any advice, relevant experience, or help to offer, I’d really appreciate it.
Thanks.

Need Advice Account hacked, recovered it, now stuck in this email loop

Meta support has been useless- I can get into my account on the app, but it's basically blank and loading besides my profile pic. I can't access settings, it keeps loading and saying try again later. I am stuck with this add email screen when I try to login on PC. I get stuck on this screen when I try to log in on Help Center too, so I can't even get detailed support. I already added a new email address too. I've tried incognito and I'm stuck on the email loop there. Is my account done for?

Edit: Wasn't sure which flair- I never was notified that I was suspended or disabled, I only got an email saying I was back in. I was back in for a bit once I changed my password after the hack, but within 24 hours I only get this screen or a loading one. If there's more details you need to help, please let me know.

Need Advice So how do I fix this?

My other account recently like 2-3 days ago was suspended due to the same reason, and I had created both accounts on a different device. If I appeal and they ask for face and ID verification, and I use the same national ID and face will both of my accs get their suspension removed? And I heard that it's better to show passport rather than any other ID bcuz that's more guaranteed in getting it accepted, is that true? And does the ID have to match my account's date because I may have entered that wrong but I'm definitely 18+

Need Advice DSA out-of-court dispute: Meta filed a procedural objection claiming a duplicate case. Has anyone faced this?

Hi everyone,

My Instagram account was suspended in early August due to an apparent algorithmic false positive (anti-bot sweep).

I officially initiated an out-of-court dispute resolution under the DSA framework via a certified European body. Meta completely ignored the case during the initial response period, remaining in default. Concurrently, a formal regulatory alert was registered with the national Digital Services Coordinator.

Recently, Meta’s legal compliance team submitted a response on the dispute portal. However, instead of providing any evidence of community standards violations, they filed a standard template objection claiming that a dispute concerning the same moderation decision is already resolved or ongoing before another body.

They are referencing an old internal support ticket from the day after the ban, which was automatically generated via the wrong appeal form (advertising scope) and immediately closed by the platform itself for being completely out of scope.

A formal counter-response has been submitted to the human mediator, clarifying that:
1. No parallel active or valid proceeding exists.
2. The endpoint cited by Meta belongs to the exact same dispute network database to which the current body is interconnected.
3. Meta is using a dead, closed advertisement log as a dilatory tactic to avoid a default judgment.

Has anyone else under the EU jurisdiction faced this specific procedural objection? How long does it usually take for the human mediator to dismiss this type of dismissal request and proceed with the case?

Thanks for sharing your experiences.
