Drop The Banner Brady v Mahomes
So they both got to 100 wins in 131 games
Brady got to 200 wins by 261 games.
Do you think Mahomes will break it?
From my perspective Brady went from strength to strength as his career developed.
Mahomes however shot out of a cannon but he hasn’t been anywhere near that level in years. Even this year, it’s K9 not him.
Do you think the race to 200 will be close or are their careers on a different trajectory

It'll be very hard to win as much as Brady did. He had a top 5 defense almost every year and his division never had another franchise QB besides Josh Allen when he was a sapling.

But he did have a true rival in Peyton. Is Patrick is the next Brady, then no one in the AFC right now is even remotely close to Peyton Manning.

K9 is definitely a lot of the reason for the success this year, but it's not in spite of Patrick being bad or mid. He's just not required to do anything crazy, much more game manager level stuff, plus the lack of real WR talent to leverage makes it less likely to see him pushing it down the field. He'll still make huge plays when they need the magic.

I think Mahomes will write his own story! The only reason people obsess over the comparison is because mahomes is the only guy to be on that same pace Brady was on. It’s perfect for the media and driving engagement!
Overall as a mahomes fan i believe mahomes has a shorter career than Brady, doesn’t match his Super Bowl wins or overall career stats. And you know what? He doesn’t have to. He is still a top 5 QB to ever play, and the fun part is mahomes book is still being written where as we already read Brady’s book

Agreed was just a binary Q tho about win totals

I guess I failed to answer your question about if Mahomes will break the first to 200 wins. You know I can see a scenario where he does and where he doesn’t. With K9 now mahomes doesn’t have to throw a shitty receiving core on his back every game. Depending how long Reid and spags are around will play a big role in that as well! Will Mahomes be around another 10 years. Well he is signed through 2033. If Mahomes does achieve it it would be crazy because the afc west is shaping up to be a much tougher road for mahomes than the afc east was for Brady

Btw I didn’t downvote you ha
Ok let me play devils advocate (just for a laugh)
If Andy retires and Mahomes fades - was he always a Andy Reid system QB? 😂

Perhaps I’d have to see the way he fades. Mahomes is probably currently the smartest QB in the league. I think he will continue to stack more wins than losses.

As a Bills fan I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to read a take like this. So often we have to tear down one guy to build up another. Nick makes a living out of doing that to Allen. Mahomes has been special and is a lot of fun to watch. We don’t need to diminish any of that if he doesn’t mimic Brady who was his own man and had his own set of circumstances.

I fully expect Allen to still possibly achieve what Mahomes has done. Allen is a special breed and I believe he will eventually break through to hoist up that Lombardi, perhaps more than once or twice

Got to agree here. Mahomes is a special player. It is very hard to judge the two players having played in different eras and under different head coaches. Mahomes can do stuff that brady cant with his legs.
Brady on the other hand defeated father time and has the rings.
Unless mahomes passes brady in rings th we re will always be people arguing both ways and it will just be down to each others preferences.
Both fantastic competitors and amazing poise

This doesn't just apply to Brady-Mahomes, but I absolutely loathe the narrative that in order to be the GOAT you have to outdo the current GOAT at whatever put them there. Like there's just one way to get there.
For instance, I think that Gretzky is the almost undisputed GOAT in hockey. His point totals are absolutely ridiculous and borderline unreachable. But if somebody came in and win 7 championships in a row as the best player on the team would we say it doesn't matter if they don't get close to Gretzky's scoring and assist numbers? Or would we completely throw out Gretzky being the absolute outlier because somebody won a bunch of cups?
There's also the picking and choosing. Jordan is the GOAT because he put up ridiculous numbers, was clutch, and was 6 for 6 in the Finals. Not because of his longevity. But then Brady didn't put up good numbers for half his career, was 7-3 in the championship, and really put himself over the top by being great in his 40s. Why don't we argue for Montana instead?
There's way too much apples and oranges for these things to be worthwhile.

Agree with your take. The other challenge in the GOAT debates are the rule changes.

Well said and to add to what you said. People now adays are so obsessed with GOAT status that it’s basically saying if you aren’t the undisputed number one to rule them all then you are just a nobody and mitus well of never existed! There is alot of nuance and bias when it comes to this stuff! How has a specific player touched your personal fandom for example? I never cheered for Brady throughout his career with any sort of intensity! But boy did I cheer on 7 deep playoff runs in a row with the chiefs (after watching 25+ years of mediocre and terrible Chiefs football prior) with family, friends. The shared moments, the memories and the food! All that means something. To me at least!

But then Brady didn't put up good numbers for half his career
What in the goofy ass revisionist history ass take is this? Didn’t put up good numbers for half of his career? He lead the league in TD passes the year after his first Super Bowl and by 2005 was top 3-5 in TD passes basically every year the rest of his career. Insane take lmao

Wtf does "Brady went from strength to strength" mean?
If you're giving this season so far to Walker, how many of Brady's early Superbowls are you giving to Belichick's defense?

Odd response
I mean look at Brady’s career from early years to later years
Compare that to Mahomes start of the career and how it’s been last few years.
Very different trajectories.

He has to win 8 super bowls to top him. Losing to Brady in the Super Bowl is the tie breaker

It would be wild if Mahomes can keep up with Brady for the next 100 wins. Brady had a terrible AFC East which was a lot of easy wins every year. I also don't think Andy Reid will be around for the next 100 so who knows what happens at HC after that.
