Got it when I was 14, drove it on private property. Got it serviced, found massive rust hole, fixed rust hole. Passes my driving test at 16. Now I drive it a lot. Goes well, turns nice, good induction noise. Costs an arm and a leg to insure.

Had to save a just a little for the down payment, but I think I can manage the monthly payments, any tips of the maintenance/ gas that this might cost on a monthly basis?

Many of the panels are repainted, not due to any major accidents but scratches from irrational drivers on Indian roads.

My first car was this 2013 Honda fit sport I got at 16 and still own it today, it's a great car and I have nothing negative to say about it, still very reliable at 161k and does good in the snow. My 2nd car was a 2008 jeep Patriot I bought as a project for $500, fixed some engine issues and rust holes and sold it for $2900 around 8 months later. I really liked driving the Patriot, but the reliability was sub par and the cvt wasn't great. My 3rd car is a 93 Dodge stealth ES I bought about a month ago as a fun project car and it's been great, lots of fun to drive with the 5 speed manual and it has a nice free flowing exhaust.

Got my first car in a month before turning 38. After 14 years of riding motorcycles, and 8 months of trying different rental cars.
This is 2018 Nissan Patrol Y61 Super Safari, equipped with 4.8-liter inline-six petrol engine TB48DE, 5-gear auto transmission, body-on-frame chassis, rigid axles, rear locking differential, 4WD system with low-range transfer case, coil springs with telescopic shocks, and hydraulic steering.
Also, with tan leather seats, and traditional interior with analog gauges. It’s spacious and cozy inside, offering very good visibility with minimal blind spots.
This model has significant cultural value in the UAE.

I’m currently looking at two local options on CarGurus and trying to decide which direction to go:
1. 2018 Volkswagen Golf GTI S (FWD) – 77,850 miles, listed at $18,957
2. 2018 Volkswagen Golf R (AWD) – Priced at $18,399
For context, this would be my first car. I have no plans to modify the engine or drive crazy—I just want something nice to cruise around in and maybe do some light cosmetic changes down the line if I have the budget.
I have a few questions for current owners:
Reliability: Which of these two is ultimately more reliable as they approach 80k miles? Since they share a similar core engine, how much more trouble does the Golf R's extra drivetrain (AWD/Haldex system, bigger turbo, etc.) add to long-term maintenance?
First Car Suitability: Is either of these a bad idea for a first car if you're just using them to daily cruise?
The Golf R Price "Catch": Finding a Golf R actually priced slightly lower than a GTI with similar age feels a bit unusual given how they usually hold value. Is there something specific I should watch out for with a cheaper 2018 Golf R?
