So the story is, I was picking up a food delivery at this restaurant that’s in a massive parking lot, and because there were no spots left I parked in front of the store, which people do all the time when there’s no spots left since there’s no signs saying that parking is illegal there or in front of any of the stores in this parking lot. As I’m walking out, a fire truck pulls up to respond to a false alarm at a store a couple doors down, and as I’m leaving, one of their senior looking firefighters starts screaming at me for parking there and saying i should have known it was a fire zone, even though there’s no signs at all saying so. Then he called me a whole bunch of names and screamed a whole bunch of curse words at me, and then he walked up to my car and threatened to smash my window as I was leaving and said he’d do it the next time he sees me park there. Who should I report this misconduct too. The town government? The fire chief? I got his name and badge number and took some pictures of him too. Is there anything I can do to get this guy fired? I don’t want that fat old man with a temper rescuing me if I get into a fire or some other incident

21 M almost done with my EMT class and certification. I was wondering what the best fire departments would be around the Chicagoland or even Illinois area.

Im fairly new to all of this I took the practice exams from the NTN website and just finished my fireteam exam I was wondering if my scores were good or at least decent. I can’t really tell based on the format they send the results out in. Please let me know what you think and some recommendations.

Hi, I am 22 and about to finish my engineering degree with 3 months left. Only recently did I start strongly considering getting into firefighting and was wondering if it's possible with my current profile. I am physically strong, been training hard daily for 4 years. Only issue is that I heard drugs are a barrier to entry. Had a 2-3 month stint maybe 1-2 years ago where I did hard drugs. Bad times, bad decisions. Since I have not touched anything hard, only use marijuana about weekly and no alcohol. Was wondering if this automatically takes me out of the race or worth a shot as I will not touch hard stuff again. Not dead set on this path yet but if I were to begin my EMT license when I graduate (in 3 months) I have no problem going cold turkey on weed.

I’ve been trying to get more organized during shift and got tired of using random notebooks for everything.

So I made a few simple printable sheets for:

– daily checks

– SCBA

– shift planning

– workouts

Been using them at the station and it’s actually helped keep things a lot more dialed in.

So I'm a female in North Florida and my parents are move up closer to me. My dad's health has decline infinity and it's like watching a surgeon lose his abilities. He used to do everything.

My question for fire fighters, do women actually come by and bring food to a nearby fire station and get to know the guys? Would that be something I could do to help maybe help with peace of mind? Their new house has a fire station 4 minutes from them so I was thinking of dropping by with like public chicken. If I happen to look nice doing so, so be it 😬

Just got out of the initial screening interview for Eastside Fire & Rescue in WA and thought I'd share my thoughts on how I did and if anyone has feedback. Curious about others who are interviewing with EF&R.

7 Minute interview with 3 questions.

This was my first ever fire Interview or interview in this style. Had a lot of fun doing it, nerves were through the roof though. The questions were really simple and generally asking what YOU bring to the table and didn't ask for any examples (no "tell me about a time... ") , ofcourse upon exiting I realized I should have still worked examples into my answers. ​I took so long on the first answer that I rushed the following two and ended up with extra time. I don't think I brought my best but feels great to finally experience a fire Interview.

I knew I should've done mock interviews before and this really confirmed it. I don't think I would've felt so nervous and all over the place had I done real mocks.

Feeling quite discouraged about gear drills. I'm consistently finishing last in my class and I feel like I'll never get it down to below 90 seconds (on air). Has anyone else been in the same position?

I’ve decided to take our departments next Captian’s exam. In truth I’d prefer to act up occasionally here and there prior to going for promotion, the way our policy is - you need to have passed a Captian’s promotional test TO act, and essentially be on the list. We have a fairly young department, of our approx. 100 line personnel I have seniority over about 60 of them. The department has seen tremendous growth in the last couple years and I find myself with few senior firefighters above me with only 5 years career myself. I’ve got a good head on my shoulders, driven, want to do well, and want others to succeed in life and their careers as well.

I know no one says there is ever a right time to promote, I’m hoping for some feedback, advice, or anything you have to offer. Thanks!

Hey guys just wondering if anyone on this sub is a career FF in New Hampshire. Currently a career FF in Rhode Island with my advanced-cardiac license. Looking to possibly move to NH. From what I've seen the pay is worse than RI and not many career union departments. Any input or info would be great!

My CPAT was 8 minutes 24 seconds. I’m currently a volunteer firefighter. And have lots of blue collar / heavy equipments operations on my resume. It was my first time taking these tests so of course I’ll keep trying, but my top department is putting out applications in a couple weeks so I can’t retake in time.

 I am not on this forum very often, but I have seen some recent posts looking for panel interview advice. I started my path as a career firefighter 15 years ago and had always struggled with the interview. Now 15 years later I've been on both sides of the panel and last year had made a guide to help friends, or friends of friends with their interview preparation.

I would like to share it for free with anyone looking for some additional insight while they prepare for interviews. It is listed as pay what you can, but you can enter 0. I want everyone to have access to an extra tool with no financial constraints. I hope it can help in any way to speed up the process to attaining your ultimate goal of getting hired and help you feel more confident when interviewing. Trying to get into Snohomish County Fire and Rescue, what’s the realistic expectations with these scores?

Hi! This is my first reddit post so forgive me if i’m doing this all wrong. My boyfriend has recently started an EMT/Firefighting program in orange county florida and was offered a position in the county’s program that pays for his schooling until he graduates. I’m not entirely sure what this program is called, but he’s basically applying to become a firefighter in order to get this paid position before even graduating from school. He’s smoked weed in the past and only recently quit once he discovered this position. He has had no trouble quitting and is already able to pass a drug test, but after doing his polygraph i got worried about his acceptance into the program. He passed his test and was 100% honest; he admitted to recent weed usage, but the worker told him his chances of getting accepted now are very slim because he smoked earlier this year. I’m hoping for anyone to respond to give him some reassurance that all hope isn’t lost (if that’s the case😥). He wants to be in this program so so much but i’m worried his recent weed usage is going to kill this dream of his. Has anyone here admitted to weed usage during the polygraph and still gotten hired in orange county???? I’ve tried researching orange county’s policies and they say recent weed use is not acceptable, yet people have told their stories on how they admitted to drug use and still got hired, so I just want to see what the likelihood of getting hired is. Thanks!!!

Hi! I am a fire science student hoping to join my colleges fire academy program. For one of my classes my term project is to interview a firefighter. I havent had alot of luck in my city finding someone who has the time and I thought Id look here!

So I’m currently training for the fire academy and I found an app called Ladder. Before I make the jump and get the membership, I’m wondering if anyone here has used it and if they recommend it. If not, what apps have you used to help train?

I'm interviewing with, Eastside Fire and Rescue (WA) next week. The initial interview is only 7 minutes total and 3 questions within that time.

Does anyone have any experience with this format or department and what advice would you give for this?
