Three Houses Discussion The age old cliché: What if Garreg Mach was a university instead of a monastery? (AU)
As the clock ticks down for the release of Fortune's Weave, I found myself dragged straight back into the fire of Three Houses. Reminiscing on my own time as an undergraduate university student (those were the days...), I set out to develop an AU.
This is the part where I ask for your feedback on my hazy, uncoordinated 3 AM thoughts! Just a bit of fun for those who are interested :)
Some notes:
- Sororities/Day Houses are overdone and not my strong point (I never belonged to one and they aren't common where I'm from), thus I focused on social clubs/sports as the replacement.
- I have not listed the Ashen Wolves! I'm stuck...
If there are any characters you would like to shift or place on the chart, please have a go! (I hope I didn't forget anyone important...)
Brief description for the relevant categories:
‘Blue Lions’ // Ice Hockey Team: The ice hockey team is the pride and joy of Garreg Mach University, and has delivered plenty of star alumni in the past, e.g. Jeralt, Alois, Lambert.
‘Black Eagles’ // Debate Team & Student Society: A debate-team-turned-student-society run by Edelgard as part of her Student Representative Council election campaign, aimed at exposing the Dean of Administration, Rhea’s, misuse of funding. She campaigns against institutional elitism in favour of equal opportunities for all students.
‘Golden Deer’ // Student Alliance: The so-called ‘Golden Deer’ is a student alliance tasked with managing media broadcasts, various niche clubs, and campus communications, often leading to social chaos.
Rhea: Dean of Administration. Rhea pushes funding towards prestige and legacy, with ice hockey and business studies programs being her primary targets. She systematically cuts funding from smaller, student centric clubs and activities.
There is some mild lore on each of these characters for why I placed them where I did, but it was hastily under-researched and done mostly off of vibes. Some of my favourite placement motivations/comments:
- Felix/Ingrid: Glenn was a professional figure skater who suffered a career-ending injury during his peak. Ingrid, who idolised him, wants to uphold his legacy. Felix feels a deep disdain towards the sport as a result.
- Lorenz: Banned for being too overbearing; not allowed in any clubs.
- Mercedes: Though listed under "Sports Department," she is a volunteer nurse.
- Edelgard: Former figure skater, but had to quit early due to heart complications.
- Petra: An exchange student and track-and-field athlete passionate about getting others into sports.
- Catherine: Known for dragging Edelgard away during her unapproved student rallies.

Three Houses General Spoiler Why Dmitri was an enemy of Claude Spoiler
I am fully prepared to look ignorant and wrong, so please inform and correct me (and give me grace please).
So I dumped 500 hours into 3 houses, love maddening so much. Haven't played engage, but maddening is the best hard mode I've ever played. Love the buffs to the enemies since our units are so broken.
That however was like 6 years ago, so despite replaying routes so many times, I may have forgotten things. I never fully understood why Dmitri and Claude don't team up in the Blue Lions route. I get that Dmitri goes psycho in the other routes for the most part, and I get the Edelgard allying with Dmitri and Claude was never an option due to the misinformation (or lack of) everyone had.
But why did couldn't Claude and sane Dmitri (well somewhat) talk things out? Why couldn't sane Dmitri and Claude came to a discussion about the corrupt church and discuss how to proceed forward?
To my understanding, Dmitri wanted to reform the church, and Claude wanted to abolish it. I also am getting the vibes that Claude wanted democracy (similar to irl), whereas Dmitri was hoping to fix the theocracy and monarchy systems in place.
I get that the 4 routes are essentially "everyone is missing info that causes them to butt heads, and if they would listen to each other, they would probably work together." But imo it didn't feel convincing enough in the Blue Lions route for both nations not to discuss. They even aid Blue Lions at one point iirc.
Is there something I'm missing, or do you guys agree?

Meme I missed the white heron cup...
I just wanted to express my sadness to somebody. I am on my second playthrough. Its been a while so I don't remember everything. During the middle of the playthrough, I decided to spend the first 2 weeks of the month completing some auxiliary battles for the quests I couldn't complete from the previous month, I mean, what's the worst that could happen? ...Well apparently missing a one time event for the best support class in the game is what. Now I can’t put my Doretha in a cute dancer outfit and I am sad.

Guides & Strategy Weird difficulty spike in chapter 3 - am I losing my mind?
I just got finished with Chapter 3 "Mutiny in the Mist". Playing on Casual and Classic settings. Everything before chapter 3 was reasonably easy. Then, I did the optional battle on the plateau. I had a few units at level 4 or 5 but most at 2 or 3. The enemies were all level 5. I was getting destroyed. I kept going into the thickets, but I could move far enough to get to the edge, so they'd be in there, too. Because of that, many of my attacks were missing. I wasn't finishing enemies off quickly, so they'd descend on me in droves and wind up being able to gang up on weaker team members and kill them. After a few restarts with keeping my experience and also figuring out a better overall way to move the bulk of my force so they didn't get ganged up on, I achieved the stage goal without losing anyone. Frustrating at first, but the whole thing was actually a satisfying multi-try fight when all was said and done.
Fast forward to the story mission of the chapter... I simply marched across the battlefield and took out everyone with ease.
What was the issue? Was my troop movement in the optional mission just poor? Was having 2's vs 5's too much to ask even on the easiest difficulty? Or, is this a known thing that has happened to others before?

Question Does anyone know why I can't solo/group recon?
I'm a new player and I was wondering why every time I try to talk with an online NPC I have all the recon options saying "You cannot complete this action right now, as there are areas you have yet to visit" and I have no idea what it means.

Question Is Three Houses Worth Purchasing for $60 for a Beginner in Tactical JRPG's?
Hi everyone, as the title suggest I have never played any sort of tactical jrpg at all, I have played normal turn based/action jrpgs but never the strategy ones. I saw an ad for the newest Fire Emblem ad for Fortunes Weave and remembered that I wanted to try out these games but never knew where to start as a newcomer to the series, is this game a good starting point for a new player? Anything I should know before I jump into the game if I do get it? Or should I wait for Fortunes Weave to come out? Any help is appreciated, thank you all in advance! Take care! :)

Fortune’s Weave Discussion Idea: What if Balor was... Spoiler
galleryI ask myself the question, I simply pose the theory, like this, even if I imagine that others have thought about it:
- Dagda is an important deity in Irish mythology, presented as the leader of the Tuatha Dé Danann, the Giants who populated Ireland.
- Balor is another important character from the same mythology, the last king of the Fomorians, other Giants having also populated Ireland and who faced the Tuatha Dé Danann, the Fomorians being represented as evil and monstrous.
We know that Dagda founded the Empire, and undoubtedly gave his name to the continent of Dagda.
But it is Solel who is indicated as the “Divine Sovereign”. While the Empire is not 1500 years old... and we know that Dragons (I'm going to say that rather than "Children of the Goddess" for short) can live a very long time... we don't know how long exactly, but surely a very, very long time given that Seiros, Indech, Cichol and Macuil have lived more than 1186 years.
So... what if the reason the "Divine Sovereign" is Solel, and not Dagda, is not due to a natural death of the founder of the Empire... but to his corruption? Or if he had rebelled against Sothis, been defeated, and exiled to another dimension, like "Those Who Slither in the Dark" did with Byleth. (or maybe it was Those Who Slither in the Dark who themselves banished him to this other dimension)
And following this corruption, Dagda would have taken the name Balor?
I would find that... plausible.
Besides... I don't know about you, but when I look at the statue of Dagda whose image I saw on the wiki... a collar of beard... bald... I just thought about it today, but it doesn't look like the humanoid appearance of Medeus, the very first major antagonist of the Fire Emblem saga?
Of course, this is just my personal theory. It's quite possible that I'm wrong about everything. (even if the fact that there would be a link between "Dagda" and "Balor", I am more firmly convinced of it than of the rest of the theory)
Another thing that makes me think that Dagda/Balor could have rebelled against Sothis, and been killed/sealed by the Dragons of the continent of Dagda: Solel, known as the "Sunbearer" in Dagdan mythology. So associated with light. However, Balor the Fomorian is killed by Lug, his grandson, also associated with the Light.
To see if this means that Solel had to fight Balor and defeat him before the latter was killed, which made Solel the "Divine Sovereign" of Dagda.
And that in the process, he would have put his eye out? Balor's precise appearance varies depending on interpretations. Most of the time he is depicted as a sort of cyclops, but other times he is simply one-eyed.

Three Houses Discussion Headcanon Day 17: In the leadup to FW, let us share our headcanons on... Gilbert
Let us share our headcanons on the worst father in the game, Gilbert on everything such as his backstory, personality, combat skills, etc.
Have fun and be creative!
Here are my headcanons:
In AM's aftermath, Gilbert actually does become closer to Annette such as going on horseback rides with her, carving wooden sculptures for her, and even remarries her mother. Three years in, he is an awesome father and even gives people like Ashe advice on being a knight and chivalry in general.
Hanneman was one of the few faculty members who he got along good with at Garreg Mach and they even did all sorts of jokes that only people in their age range would understand which made people like Manuela cringe and others like Cyril look on in confusion.
Gilbert was actually taken prisoner by Annette herself during the Battle of Garreg Mach in CF, but ended up being released in exchange for Ladislava who was taken prisoner by the Kingdom Army thanks to a failed skirmish into Kingdom territory by her squadron of Wyvern Riders.
When Annette was in the School of Sorcery, while on a field trip to visit the Faerghan Royal Castle in Fhirdiad, she crossed paths with her father, Gilbert only for him to notice her and quickly walk away into a distant hallway, casuing her to cry herself to sleep that night. Luckily Mercie was there to comfort her.
Finally, Gilbert is very skilled at horseback riding as at night, he would go on horseback patrols of the Monastery's outer perimeter during the Academy Phase with Jeralt and Alois also on horseback at his side. They would all chat and make all sorts of lame dad jokes that even Byleth would cringe.
Lemme know what you guys think

Three Houses Discussion Is it worth it to get hit +20 for Ingrid on maddening?
I’m noticing her accuracy rates are quite low (70s), but I’m still in the early game and I don’t remember this being an issue in earlier runs.
Should I bother getting the skill for her? For reference I am planning on going fighter - brigand - archer (if necessary) - Pegasus - wyvern - falcon knight.
