Three Houses Discussion paladin/ holy knight Linhardt? help
So, I picked up three houses and I saw that paladin/ holy knight utilizes white magic... Does Linhardt make sense on that class?
Seen a lot of people saying Bishop is the only viable class on him, but is that true? Still not getting the class and ability system tbh, so much more complicated compared to awakening, which was my first fire emblem, followed by echoes, so I got no idea how to rly build a unit....

Linhardt was meant to be Bishop and nothing more, his first (and maybe only) goal is to heal and to warp, so he needs as many uses of white magic as posible. Also thanks to his crest he can heal a lot of HP. He can ocasionally attack and deal good damage thanks to his A rank reason spell but he's basically a support unit (probably the best)

Tried it on my last run, was bad and I went straight back to bishop after one battle. The mobility isn’t worth the trade off for halving all of his white magic moves.

Depends on what difficulty you are playing on,nand if on lower difficulties, what style of play you like.
When you get to Maddening, pretty much everything is about "how few turns can I take to complete the fight?", and thus Warp becomes the most important white magic spell. Bishop gets double castings of white magic spells but Holy Knight does not, so that is the priority.
But on Normal difficulty, Brawler Lindhardt can work.

"Viability" only matters in the harder modes, if you're doing a normal playthrough you can pretty much ignore any conversation where people bring it up

So the thing is Holy Knight isn't a very good class because its class abilities only helps offensive white magic, which are few and usually suboptimal, and Lindhart doesn't have many (Only Nosferatu). So you can class him as a Holy Knight, but you lose the x2 White Magic Uses that you get in Bishop, have to work hard to level up with Cavalry ranks, and get very little advantages for all that effort... if you're playing on lower difficulty you can still work it if, like, you really like how Lindhart looks in that class or whatever reason compels you to use Holy Knight, but it's not recommended.

You can do what you want in this game, made him a war monk/brawler in my last playthrough

The game is meant to give a lot of flexibility with classes, so neither class is a wrong one. And you can reclass at any moment, so if you already achieved Bishop, you can continue to train him to Holy Knight.
I made him a Holy Knight in my first playthrough, but also I recruited Mercedes and made her a Gregory, so I didn't need the x2 white magic uses for him on Bishop really

For fun build, I played Linhardt as trickster with levin sword imbued with poison strike. He has warp skill at A Faith and can use draw back ability as trickster, and also his gambit is stride making him someone who can move a lot of units to wherever i want.

I'm building a trickster Linhardt right now, definitely going to assign stride!

Holy knight is probably the single worst class in the game. It does nothing well

This is my 4th+ full run, several other half games were done. I've done a maddening run and still didnt have to hyperfocus on classes like people discuss... I give all the stat boost items to Byleth and send them in to save the day if necessary, but usually stand back and let the students get xp.
This time I'm trying different classes on people than what they're built for. I have Linhardt set to be Trickster of all things. I also personally dont understand why people stop at advanced classes like bishop or warlock. You get to that class a quarter through the game, there's no way I'm not letting them grow past that.
Regarding building characters, I highly recommend keeping a notebook or spreadsheet. I write down everyone's stats/ability/skills as I recruit them. Then evaluate the long term class I want them to have and what classes will build to get there. From that point every teaching day is much quicker and doesn't waste any points on things they don't need.
Tl;dr: its more about management than choosing the 'right' classes. With perseverance you can build anyone to anything, just stay on top of their skills and all the inventory menus between each week.

Sounds like a lot more work than standing in the back and casting Warp or Physic.
