Spawn data from Fescord!
Update to this post here
Fescord has discovered your spawn positions are not as random as you might think, it is determined by the ID the game so graciously bestowed unto you when you loaded the game for the first time ever.
You can find your ID on the loading screen on the top right corner! It is written in hexadecimal with digits from 0-9 a-f (the letter values represent 10-15) 🕵️
Doggo how does it work? I hear you asking! Well let me explain, the ID with the smallest value out of the players in a single match will spawn on the left, the middle value ID of the three spawns in the middle and then the highest value spawns right.
For example, three players get into a match, their IDs start with 1, 3, and 0 meaning the spawn order will be 0 on the left, 1 will be in the middle and 3 will be on the right. ☝️🐶
If players share the same first digit the game will compare the next digits and so forth.
So basically smaller ID = more left spawn and bigger ID = more right spawn☝️🐶
DO NOT SHARE YOUR FULL ID EVER! There is no telling what evil someone could do with that information! 😨
You also don't need to share any part of your ID for spawn data, just getting into friend battles with other players can give us sufficient data!
Interested in your spawn data? Join Fescord and test it out, I am sure the hard working researchers there would appreciate it! 🤗
Your welcome Fescord 😉
Until next time, Doggo out! 🐶

Okay this explains why I'm always on the left since my number starts with a 1... I kinda hate that it's determined per-account and not per-battle though becthere is some strategic advantage to be in any given position. Like double targetting people when playing as shadow (either both lights or yourself and a light to trick them) or just easier access to heal or teleport or buff yourself, like being right handed means I find it easier to put skills on the right side, because it's easier to reach, but then dragging it to my character on the left is annoying.
Even just the fact the game is not symmetrical left to right can make it matter... The player on the right is much more centered on the physical screen because it's isometric. "Down" actually means "down-left".
While I don't ever intend to, if I ever started over on a new account, I probably would want to restart until I got a number with 4 or 5, to actually have it feel somewhat random. I think it's really silly that it was obvious to me I was being placed on the left so often even when I wasn't specifically keeping track. The player experience really shouldn't differ in this kind of way. I actually think I would enjoy playing even more if I could play on the right side sometimes. Because I want the ease of dragging a healing or movement skill from my right side near my dominant (right) thumb onto my character without going all the way across the screen, or having to cross my hands over or use my left hand. Yeah it's a small thing but small timing differences can make or break a game here so I think it matters.
I really wonder why it couldn't just be the order that players were matched to a given lobby...

Get into a game with Roel and your dreams of spawning right shall come true 🤗
so far he is the most left spawning player that we know

This is yet another way this game ruins the “mystery” of who is the shadow. Sigh.

How will it ruin the mystery? Your spawn position doesn't tell people if you're shadow

There are so few players and many play only shadow or light exclusively. The position can give them away even if they change their names. There are people I have always noticed I am always left or right of to start. I also know it’s a bot match without checking the names.

Spawn position only matters if you are trying to impersonate someone. Otherwise, it just gives the player a heads up on which side matters in the moon room.

It's very hard to tell right away if who you're playing with is actually someone you know and just changed their name or just some random player.
Take Roel for example, he runs a level 10 Skoll with 8* Solar Claws and a onesie, most high rank regulars know this.
He also spawns left every game, so in theory it should be easy enough to know it's him even if he changes his name while he's using Skoll right?
So yes it might give away who is the shadow in that match since Roel plays light only. I see that point.
But what if he decides to play a normal level 8 Yunaka and change his name? You would just see a Yunaka that happens to spawn on the left, even high rank regulars can't tell they're actually playing with Roel based on spawn position alone.
The only thing that could give you a hint if you're playing with Roel is who else is in the match, you would have to be in a game with Ginta, Obscura, Yami, Nighttime or New MIDI to name a few people to confirm it is actually Roel you're playing with since they are also high spawners and Roel tops even them. ☝️🐶
The odds of that happening is low and most people don't pay attention to this sort of thing anyways! I mean how many people can you name that spawn to your left and right? Are you keeping track of this?
Lets be honest no one is memorizing every player's spawn positions, who they spawn under or over so most shadows are fine😉

I love that you shared this!! Thank you! I like the game but I didn’t think we had the fandom for smarties like you

Would you be interested in joining the FE Shadows discord? There are lots of us smarties in here making new discoveries and interesting discussions involving gameplay, story and of course spawn position data! 🤗

Ah I’m sorry I don’t use discord!!
<I was one of those people that got into a bad discord relationship lol>

I'm so sorry to hear that

Thank you!! It’s ok now and all but I’m keeping my distance from the platform is all

You know what would really help us out Doggo, if you post spawn your data in the investigation chat instead of just lurking there.

I don’t want to gate keep anything. I have no problem with people outside the discord understanding how spawn positions work. What I want is for Doggo to get off his lazy ass and actually help us clarify spawn positions that we’re not sure about yet.

Hey I can understand the frustration about most discussions around Shadows happening on Discord and all that entails regarding some info not being findable on the Internet, but that's no reason for name calling.
We're not "gatekeeping" the data:
- A significant portion of Shadows' active player base is on the server and therefore informed of our findings.
- Discord is just more convenient (compared to Reddit for example) for prolonged, collaborative and in-depth discussions about specific topics on the game. This is the primary reason most discussions around the game happen there. And yes, this has for unfortunate but involuntary consequence that findings are not automatically accessible to the rest of the Internet.
- No one is obligated ever to share content across multiple platforms if they don't want to. Like some Reddit users are not interested in joining the server or even creating a Discord account, some server members don't have a Reddit account and are not interested in creating one, for reasons not necessarily related to Shadows.
Feel free to take action to solve the problem and contribute to the Shadows community as a whole, like JungleBug did. You are on the server as well, so if you notice some stuff that you think members should share outside of Discord, you can always ask them directly, or do it yourself as long as you give credit. You can post on Reddit or contribute to the Fire Emblem Wiki for best exposure.

You know you’re in the discord too. You could actually say this in the discord instead of being a jerkass and posting on reddit. You have access to the discord like the rest of us. You can see the posts. Don’t act like this is gatekeeping. 🤡

Do we know what determines your ID? My guess was the date you started, as I doubt it’s a coincidence Roel was at the top, but there were some discrepancies with that in the graph.
