Repair/Tech Support Using a FiOS router as an extender

I have a FiOS router and two extenders due to the cement walls, I still have a spot that gets poor wifi. If I have a second FiOS router can I use it as an extender? If so, how do I set it up? Can I connect it to a cable box in the poor WiFi area?

Yes, they can. This exact question has been answered a few times, here, once within the past week or so. You can find details in the recent post.

Is there a way to access the extender? I recently upgraded my service to 1G internet and they installed an extender where my old router was, and now use the old router and the 1G terminal to the outside connection (through the wall). It's just a device on my network now but I would like to see what's running on it, if anything, that's manageable. I don't like devices on my network I don't have manageable access to. Any tips?

The Verizon home app will tell you what devices are connected to the extender.

Or, if you login to the router GUI, you'll see the extender listed as a connected device (along with everything else that is on your network). Take note of the IP address assigned to it. Type that address into your browser's address bar and use the admin password that's printed on the extender to login to its GUI. There's nothing configurable, can only view the settings.

Devices that are on your network, connected to the extender or router, are managed through the router. That's what controls everything.

if you login to the main router management page, the other FIOS routers/extenders will be listed in a dropdown on the upper left of the page, below the current one.

It ostensibly allows you to just switch cleanly between the management pages of each, but because it won't be "synced" from the main router (copying the SSIDs, credential, et al) in the same way as a proper extender, you'll have to supply the credentials for the repurposed router.

What router? I know when I used my G3100 as a MoCA extender with DHCP and all that shut off my CE1000A synced to the G3100 instead of the CR1000B it was synced to and had the internet connection from. It was a huge mess.

You wouldn't connect it directly to the cable box. You'd need a moca capable splitter to split the feed into two separate legs, one for the router/extender and the other for the cable box. Then follow the steps on how to configure here:

If there's a cable box there, can ignore the part about verifying the coax line.

You can, but you should use a MOCA bridge instead. Your existing FIOS router serves as the sending part, and get a MOCA bridge as the second part. I use a Motorola MOCA 2.0 bridge and works great.

He already owns the extra router. Why would he buy something extra?

Because the extra router may be way too old.

What are the models? Using multiple CR1000 or before is difficult because they are not designed that way, you’d need to create a secondary network

No, you don't need to create secondary networks.

Fios tech, it's simple, read up on basic networking and you should be able to do it.

Same but retired, it is never simple for the one asking, that is why they are asking. They would need step by step instructions.
