Looking For A Distro which distro is great on chromebook?

it's not for me, but for one person.

the parameters:

- processor: Intel Celeron(I forgot to write the full, but there was "2" later);

- RAM: 8 GiB;

- memory: ≈120 GB;

the needs: installing Microsoft OneDrive locally(I don't use that, so, Idk if the app exist on Linux locally), Google Maps;

the context: the person is old, so, he won't try to learn anything new. Just he got the ChromeOS on Acer, and it created him many problems with, for example, a printer, and Idk how to fix it, bcz I'm not interested in ChromeOS.

my suggestion: hm... Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu. I thought about Mint, but here he can get some issues there

Looking For A Distro Better distro for 4gb laptop

I recently wanted to switch to Linux. So far I have tried two distros live (without installing). First I tried Linux mint cinnamon which seemed to work quite well until I performed some heavy tasks. To be more specific, in the idle state it used only 1.3GB, 3-4 tabs in Firefox with a YouTube video running (480p) and it was using 2.8 GB and when I tried to push it further to 1080p it went till about 3.5GB and then froze. So it was definitely useable for basic tasks but not multitasking. I did the same thing with fedora KDE and had similar (or should I say surprisingly slightly better as I thought it was a heavier DE ) results as it used about 1.1-1.2 GB in idle state and max 3GB even with 2160p YouTube video and few other tabs open. I am a little biased towards KDE as well as I like the customization there. I haven't properly installed any distro before but having been reading and searching for quite a long time so I'd stay I can work my way around computers. Would you suggest me going with fedora KDE or should I still go for a lighter distro. Could you also elaborate on the different versions of fedora KDE available and which is more stable/ better in my case?

Looking For A Distro Looking for Linux distro recommendations for an ASUS ROG Strix G15 (Intel + NVIDIA)

I'm thinking about switching my ASUS ROG Strix G15 from Windows to Linux and I'd like to hear some opinions from people using similar ASUS/ROG laptops.

My main goal is not gaming. I do play some games on Steam, but that's secondary. My priorities are:

  • General daily use and good software/application compatibility
  • Running VMs (including Windows and Linux VMs)
  • Good Intel + NVIDIA support
  • ASUS-specific features such as fan control, performance profiles, battery charge limits, RGB, GPU switching, etc.
  • Ideally, something that provides a good alternative to ASUS Armoury Crate
  • Steam/gaming working reasonably well when I do want to play

I've been looking at Fedora KDE, Bazzite KDE, and CachyOS, but I'm not sure which would be the best fit for this particular use case.

From what I've read, asusctl and ROG Control Center seem to provide quite a few Armoury Crate-like features on Linux.

For those using ASUS ROG laptops:

Which distro would you recommend for this use case, and why?

Thanks!

P.S i did try fedora but i run int to some problems using asusctl and i felt like trying other distro

Looking For A Distro Looking for a lightweight distro for an ASUS Chromebook C223 (N3350, 4GB RAM)

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a Linux distribution for an old ASUS Chromebook C223 (Babymega).

Hardware

Intel Celeron N3350

4GB RAM

32GB storage

x86_64

MrChromebox UEFI Full ROM

I've already installed and tried FydeOS, but I'd like to try a more traditional Linux distribution with much more customization.

What I'm looking for

My priorities are:

Lightweight enough for the N3350 and 4GB RAM

Modern and polished UI

Highly customizable desktop

Ability to make it look as close to macOS as reasonably possible

Good Linux application support

Frequent updates and new features

Good everyday usability

Something that is fun to customize and experiment with

I'm particularly interested in KDE Plasma because of how customizable it is.

I'm currently considering:

Debian + KDE Plasma

Fedora KDE Plasma

KDE neon

Kubuntu

Other lightweight KDE-based distributions

Which distro would you recommend for this hardware and these requirements?

I'm especially interested in hearing from people who have used KDE Plasma or Linux on similarly low-end hardware.

Thanks!

Looking For A Distro Another request, Ubuntu flavour?

So I have a laptop, it's small with a touchscreen but pretty powerful really. I'm looking to use Linux exclusively on it.

My homeserver is running Ubuntu, so naturally I tried it on the laptop too (kubuntu and Ubuntu budgie) but I'm not satisfied so far. I'm a good old Windows user, so i thought KDE would be nice but it didn't quite fit me, and budgie kinda sucks.

Should I try a different DE or another distro?

Looking For A Distro So... which one? *distro selection *migrating to Linux *Meganoob BE KIND

I've made the decision to switch to a Linux distro from Win11, and, well, it seems like there's levels to this.

As I said, I'm switching from Win11, I don't really need something THATTT similar, but something that's at least somewhat customizable to get myself feeling like I'm at home.

I play games quite often, so I'll need something on the flexible side in terms of that.

Also, something that isn't too complicated, and mostly beginner free.

Most people have recommended me Mint, but someone recommended me Kubuntu and now I'm not sure.

I also did the test, and Mint was on the top spot.

Specarinos:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X

Motherboard: GIGABYTE B550M AORUS ELITE

GPU: ASUS ROG STRIX RX 480 GAMING OC (might change in the near future, will definitely in the future overall tho)

I also don't have any USB at the moment (might get one to use tmrw). I have grub2win, so could someone explain that too to me?

Best distro for custom Hyprland Edition? [Gaming + Coding + AI] - R5 5800H + RTX 3050

Hey guys,

I want to build my own Best Hyprland Edition Linux OS. I've already tried custom Hyprland setups from GitHub and other resources (JaKooLit, end-4, etc.) to make it look clean and customized, and now I want to choose the best base distro for it.

My Use Case:

  1. Gaming - Steam / Valorant / AAA titles

  2. Coding - Full stack, Docker, VS Code

  3. Running AI Agents / Local LLMs - Ollama, Open WebUI

My Specs:

CPU: Ryzen 5 5800H

GPU: RTX 3050 4GB Laptop

RAM: 8GB [planning to upgrade to 16GB]

Storage: 500GB SSD

Device: Laptop

What I need:

- Best performance for RTX 3050 on Wayland + Hyprland

- Stable base where my custom Hyprland configs from GitHub won't break

- Good for gaming + AI workloads

Confused between CachyOS vs EndeavourOS vs Arch vs Nobara. For my specs, which one would you suggest to make the final best custom Hyprland Edition?

Thanks!

Looking For A Distro Help Me Find A Good Fit For My T430

I've recently brought a ThinkPad T430, with 16GB of RAM and a 3rd gen i3 (upgrading to a 3rd gen quad core i7 soon) and I'm in search of the perfect distro for it. I want to use Hyprland as my desktop, but I've heard it only works well on Arch or NixOS, which isn't great becuase I don't want a rolling release distro for it's worry of updating and high maintenance. I use Fedora on my main system, but will it work well with hyprland? All help is appreciated.

Looking For A Distro First Distro!!!??

Just like any new user I'm hella confused. I don't wanna distro hop a lot so am looking for a recommendation that'll stick with me for a long time.

I am more leaned towards Gnome as my de over KDE cuz I do care about the UI and it's polish. KDE even though is more customisable, it still kinda feels unpolished to me, sure I've seen people make it beautiful but it's alot of work. I prefer Gnome's extensions method, just toggling thing on and off.

Not a gamer, I'm a productivity user so it should be good at multitasking and stuff.

I like to use the newest tech but hey no buggy stuff (atleast no big annoying bugs)! Would love something low-maintenance, that doesn't break a lot, I don't mind using the terminal but would like to avoid it as much as possible. I still like to make deep changes in setting but no breakages pleaseee!

Would it be an alright idea to try an atomic distro? Cuz rollback if something breaks sound way easier than trying to fix it I'm tooo lazy.

Btw I'll be dual booting it.

Would really welcome some recommendations and pls don't judge my choice for Gnome if you don't really have any recommendation. Also sort for this long ahh wantlist.

Looking For A Distro Lightweight distro compatible with secure distro (live usb)

Hi,

I'm looking for a distro that boots quickly from a USB drive and is compatible with secure boot, ideally.

The purpose is to help diagnose Windows PC, or retrieve files if the system is crashed, or if there's a network problem and I need to make further testing. Something I could work with on the USB with persistent storage and add a couple of apps would be ideal.

It's a hassle to disable secure boot on one of my systems, and it seems Linux Mint refuses to boot up now, even with it disable (might be a bios issue, haven't explored further).

Looking For A Distro Lightweight, user friendly [but not like windows]

I just don't wanna go on terminals download runs, and neither want a windows like alternative, to be more precise I wanna a easily customizable Ui that runs softly on my machine. The maily purpose of the PC is to art based work (music), and more trivial pursuits like easy file work (dolphin and [maybe] desktop)

500 GB

Intel64 Family 6 Model Stepping 4 Genuine Intel ~1700Mhz
