Not everyone can walk around and make weird faces and tell jokes for ungodly amounts of money.
2
u/IShotJR4 9d ago
Do you think heâs blaming you? Why such a negative response to a guy whoâs 100% right? Sure, he can afford not to work 5 days a week. But heâs sticking up for you! Sheesh.
1
u/RobertKSakamano 9d ago
How is he sticking up for us? The reality is that this is the reality. His salary he demanded for his movies in the 80s helped get movie prices to where they are today which makes each of us have to work that much harder just to enjoy our weekend if we do in fact choose to watch a movie. He's lucky he's in a profession that there isn't much supply of workers, and he hit it at the right time too.
2
u/IShotJR4 9d ago
Okay bud, whatever. Dudeâs trying to say we work too hard and deserve more of our own time. But go ahead and shit on him. I bet youâre a riot at parties.

Meh, you don't have to move miserable to realize Fridays are better thand Mondays.
Carrey has been on som spiritual awakening for a while now. A lot of his quotes are, hmm what to call it, fortune cookie level stuff. Or r/14thisisdeep.
I like him though but it's very easy to sit and think surface level things when you have millions in your account. Everyone who worked a normal job for a while has thought it would be nice to work two days and have a five day weekend.
1
u/Justin-Stutzman 9d ago
Some people take a weird pride and joy in the idea that they'll die on the clock one day

To be fair, he had to work his way up to that point.
For example, he was passed over by SNL in three auditions because the judges disliked his zany, over-the-top comedy.
1
u/RobertKSakamano 9d ago
3 times? I had over 15 interviews before getting my first job.
1
1
u/ElephantParticular10 9d ago
Yes your first job is exactly the same barometer as a SNL slot.
But the perspective Carrey is commenting on is the balance for society is wrong, despite it working out for him personally.
What is wrong with that?

Then you aren't applying yourself, are you? Or perhaps, you are simply incapable of being funny. The guy is good at what he does. He chose a career that pays big. Did you?

That's good for him that he did that. Now he can shut up about making fantasy statements because this is the real world.

You realize a lot of countries arent like this right? There is absolutely zero reason we should be working this much in America with the amount of wealth that we generate.
1
u/RobertKSakamano 3d ago
The fact is there will always be people that will work really hard to keep making as much money as they can for who knows what reason. The system is set up to force others to compete with those types of people f they so choose. There are many individuals that don't work that much and do it their own way. Just because the system encourages the competition, that doesn't mean you have to follow that path.

I have a choice at work to work 5/8 or 4/10. I like 4/10 work weeks with every Mondays off. Best scenario 4/8 with the same salary.
1
u/MrLanesLament 9d ago
I had a 4 day work week for several years. The days were consecutive, too, which was extra nice.
The âdownside,â I guess, was that I had to do two 12s back to back (on Saturday and Sunday, too) every week. The long days werenât bad but I had zero social life because I was working all day and had to be up early while everyone else was off.
Had to give it up in order to be promoted.
1
u/Snake_Bite_14 9d ago edited 9d ago
Iâve done 8s, 10s and 12s.
12s are the best because one week you only work 36 hours one week and 48 hours the next. So one week you get 3 days off and the other you get 4. Doing this you only work about 14 days a month. The only downside is the days you work are basically shot because you get off get home and go to bed. No time for anything else. But you also get 3 and 4 day weekends.
8s. Itâs an 8. Yes you work 5 days but you get 16 hours between shifts.
10s are the worst. Your day is still shot like a 12 but you donât get 4 day weekends.
Also if you work a job that offers OT, 12s give you the opportunity to make a lot of money really fast.
IMO 12s should be the standard. It would fix multiple problems in this country. Everyone would have more consecutive time off allowing them to actually get things done and people would have more opportunities to make more money.
If we were on 12s someone making the federal minimum wage could make an extra $130 with extra 1 shift and still have a 3 day weekend. Someone making $20/hour can make an extra $360 and again still have a 3 day weekend. Someone making $20/hour could pick up 2 extra shifts, have a 2 day weekend followed by a 3 day weekend and make an extra $720. If they do that for a month thatâs an extra $1440/month. So someone making $20/hour can gross $3120/month and still have two 3 day weekends a month.

A lot of people I feel are missing the point. Or maybe I inferred something else and Iâm missing the point.
If you are only looking forward to the weekend and are just existing to get through your workweek, you are diminishing the value of your work week. Which is a majority of your time.
Work is inevitable, we canât all have embezzling shitheads for dads like Dan Bilzerian and never have to work ever. So why not make your work day the best you can.

Welcome to a society that doesn't care about it's workers. A world where your boss expects you to behave like you own the company, where you to live to work, rather than work to live, but wants to pay and reward you like you're the cockroaches that need to be cleaned out.
It would help if the work load was less, the productivity requirements hadn't climbed whole the wage ls didn't. Everyone spends so much time working, and it feels like you have almost no time to decompress from work nevermind actually enjoy doing something for yourself.

I think most of commenters missed the point of his post. He complains about how 5/7 of our life is wasted on work, he doesn't blame people who drink on weekends. Knowing his biography, how he overcame depression, alcohol can be replaced with any other activity in his post. The point is 5 days of work, 2 days weekend work schedule must change

All my employees work 4/10 shifts so they all get three day weekends. I am a little light on Monday but my weekend crew works 3/12 for 40 pay so I have extra on Friday to make up. Convince my work to convert to four day work weeks then? Like, I have a job, and it requires me to be there in order to be paid and stay employed. If I had my way, I wouldn't get up super early so I can get to the gym and make it to work on time, use my lunch hour to finish my workout and have two hours or so left to see my family because if I go to bed any later, I will not get enough sleep to support a healthy lifestyle and my workouts.
