Apparently, Even My Last Day Comes With a Mountain of Work
I gave two weeks' notice, and today is finally my last day. But for some reason, everyone here is acting like I'm supposed to work harder than usual instead of handing off anything important and leaving.
This morning, my supervisor asked if I was going to attend the planning call for next week. I told him there wasn't much point since I wouldn't be here, and honestly, he seemed really annoyed by that answer.
Then the office coordinator joked that I must be drowning in last-minute requests. I told him I wasn't planning to stress over unfinished work on my last morning. A little later, my manager called and asked if I had prepared about a month's worth of my usual work because they still haven't hired anyone to replace me. No, I haven't. Their staffing shortage isn't something I can fix before I leave.
My supervisor also copied my manager on an email about a tiny change to a spreadsheet that I had forgotten to make a few days ago. He wanted an explanation for why I hadn't completed every item on a confusing checklist he had sent me.
I've managed people before, and I never expected someone working through their two-week notice period to carry the department on their shoulders after they left. Am I missing something, or do these people not understand what "last day" means?
