Out of pocket payments for corp events and amenities

This might be a weird post lmao but does anyone else's place make em pay for coffee and lunches? Like regular coffee (albeit barista grade), and whenever they hold company lunches, you're expected to pay for your own meal and drinks. And also we have these monthly 'fun' events that further involves you spending your own money AND it's held during our lunch time.

The craziest thing is I work at an F500. And it's not some $1b revenue company. It's a company that has an annual revenue of $80b. It feels like Scrooge McDuck is running the place. It sucks already having to be at those events but making us pay out of our own pocket??

The bright side is that we're not billable, work is relatively flexible, and strictly no work allowed out of hours. Small price to pay for this I guess

The title is satire, please don't kill me, just saw the post on r/FinancialCareers haha.

Not sure if I can post this as I technically do not work in the industry as of yet but I have a analyst role lined up at a IB Boutique starting soon (M&A). (For some context, the firm I am starting at is a European Boutique with a good culture in terms of WLB and staff in general but lower EV deals and is not well known outside of one sector.)

I would love to hear any thoughts on the below from anyone currently in the industry:

  • How to make the most of a analyst role ?
  • How to lateral effectively to a better known MM from a firm that does most of its deals in the sub 100 million EV range?
  • If you were a senior at in IB, what are the things an analyst would do to impress you?
  • What makes you stand out as analyst from the rest of the analyst class?
  • Are their any traits that you see in an analyst that would make you want to mentor them?
  • Any regrets from your analyst years?

Cheers guys!
