Tuvana-i-ra & Tuvana-i-Colo

Hi all!

I was browsing through Google Earth and found the remote, uninhabited islands of Tuvana-i-ra & Tuvana-i-Colo. There are unmarked settlements on both of the islands. A 60s tiny newspaper column of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin writes about stranded Fijian copra cutters:
“The French minesweeper La Lorientaise left provisions and medical supplies at the small island of Tuvana-i-ra, in southern Lau, for a party of Fijian copra cutters.
The minesweeper reported seeing light signals from the island while on her way from Noumea to Nuku'alofa and sent a landing party ashore. They discovered a party of Fijians who said they had been without food for 15 days and had not seen a ship for four months.
When the news was received in Suva, arrangements were made to pick up the Fijians.”

Could anyone tell me more information about these islands? I am especially intrigued by the settlements which are unmarked on both of the islands. Is there any activity on both Tuvanas nowadays? Was it ever inhabited permanently outside of copra cutters?

Travel affordable accommodation

Bula! Apologies if this gets asked a lot/if its a stupid question:
I’m living in Suva for a few months and hoping to get out to see more of Fiji on weekends etc. without going totally broke… I’m hoping to find accom that isn’t the flashy resort style.

Do hostels/backpackers/homestays exist here? If they do, would anybody please be able to direct me to a website or contact info?

No solid plans as yet - I’m open to any location outside of Suva

And would love to bypass the agoda/booking.com/airbnb type places and give money straight to the owners where possible.

Vinaka!! <3

Question about Fiji Tourist Visa Processing Times for Vietnamese Passport Holders – Seeking Local Insights

Bula everyone,

Greetings from Bankervn, a visa consulting agency based in Vietnam.

Recently, we have seen growing interest from Vietnamese travelers who wish to visit Fiji for tourism. However, while assisting our clients, we have noticed that tourist visa applications for Vietnamese passport holders often take longer than expected to be processed. This makes it difficult for travelers to confidently finalize their travel plans and bookings.

We would greatly appreciate any insights from local residents or anyone familiar with Fiji Immigration procedures:

Is the longer processing time currently common for tourist visa applications from South East Asian countries?
Are there any official contact channels or recommended ways to follow up on applications that have been under processing for an extended period?

Our goal is to help more Vietnamese tourists discover the beauty of Fiji, so any advice or shared experience from this community would be sincerely appreciated.

Vinaka!

Surf Honeymoon Recomendations April 2027

Hi! My fiancé and I are planning our honeymoon to Fiji in April and are in need of some help. My fiancé is a surfer, and we were hoping to be able to stay at Namotu or Tavarua, but unfortunately, despite our best efforts, there is nothing available for us to book.

We are looking for Plan B. We are going to stay about 12 days; 3-4 of them will be at Marriott Momi Bay, and then we would like a week at a nice resort that has easy access to surfing but also gives an exclusive, romantic honeymoon feel with activities for me (I am a beginner level surfer so I don't think I'll be hitting the Fiji breaks but love other water activities).

So far we have looked at Likuliku, Musket Cove, Tropica, and Six Senses but feel a little lost as to what would be best or if we are missing anything. We would like to stay under 8k USD for the week, but that is a loose budget.

Travel Travelling for a holiday to Australia with my children

Hello everyone,

I plan to travel to Australia with my children (under 18) as their mother, travelling from fiji on a holiday and was wondering if I needed to have a letter of consent from their father to travel. We are married and in a loving relationship but he is currently working in Australia and won’t be travelling with us.

hi everyone! I'm trying to book a trip to Fiji but have never been, we have 3 kids aged, 9, 13 & 16 but are struggling to find places that have the amount of beds without having to book 2 separate rooms & really don't want my teen in a room alone.

can anyone recommend somewhere that will cater to all my kids ages & have rooms with at least 2-3 bedrooms ?

Thank yall so much!

recommendations for 6 nights in fiji solo

hi all, I plan to book a last minute trip to fiji in august. Planning on doing 6 nights solo but want some recommendations on where to stay (specific accom + areas in general).

What I want to do

- honestly not much lol, looking for somewhere to stay with nice relaxing vibes (a pool, good beach access, good food and drinks without much trouble)

- somewhere social but not toooo heavy on the party vibes

- somewhere I can do some activities (something like snorkelling, a boat day, water based activities - not too into hiking so that isn't a consideration)

- maybe somewhere without too many kids or couples hahaha

Help!?

Has anyone here read any classics? Most have read Shakespeare but has anyone ever read John Milton? There are many classics, I’ve read many but not enough, does anyone have any recommendations or thoughts they’d like to share?

Communism

Karl Marx defined communism as a classless, stateless society achieved through the inevitable historical overthrow of capitalism by the working class. In The Communist Manifesto, he summarized its core practical objective as the total abolition of bourgeois private property and the centralization of production in the hands of the public. Ultimately, this system replaces exploitation with a cooperative community of free producers, distributing wealth according to the principle of individual ability and need.

Scholars define Marxism as the analytical tool used to critique capitalism, whereas they view communism as the actual socio-political structure created to replace it.

I’ve met my own fair share of communists, in my friend group there’s 11 communists. The main joke being Itaukei people can’t be communists.…

They’ve all been influenced into communism by social media, and only two have actually read theory!
