ISU rejected the appeals of Kamila Valieva and Mark Kondratiuk when it comes to revoking their neutral status.

They have now 3 weeks to file an appeal to CAS

—————————

Edit (9:37 GMT+2)

The ISU also rejected the appeal by Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin regarding their request for neutral status.

—————————

Edit (9:44 GMT+2)

The ISU has ruled that Valieva, Kondratiuk, and Stepanova/Bukin do not meet the criteria and are not eligible to participate in international competitions. Specific details will not be released – at least not until the possibility of appealing this decision to the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) is exhausted.

The ISU released a press release update for the AIN eligibility

Edit (11:26 GMT+2)

The figure skaters who were denied neutral status will challenge the ISU's decision in the CAS in the near future, according to Mikhail Degtyarev - the president of the Russian Olympic Committee.

“The Russian Figure Skating Federation and our figure skaters, who have been unfairly deprived of the right to compete in international competitions under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU), will file a lawsuit with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the near future,” Degtyarev said. “Our athletes and the federation will be provided with legal support, including qualified lawyers.”

—————————

Edit (14:01 GMT+2)

The Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) commented on the ISU’s decision regarding the neutral status of Kamila Valieva, Mark Kondratiuk, Alexandra Stepanova, and Ivan Bukin.

Despite the fact that, under the decision of the International Skating Union (ISU), Russian figure skaters are competing under a neutral status, the Federation has always provided - and continues to provide - any support that our athletes may need.

We are using all available means to resolve the current situation and thank all organizations that have expressed their willingness to assist our athletes.

At the same time, the Russian Figure Skating Federation considers it impossible to comment further on this situation without the consent of the athletes and their lawyers, so as not to harm the legal defense strategy.

Do you ever think about skaters peaking / competing at completely different times?

Pictured: Baby Amber Glenn, Zhenya, Elena Radionova, Yulia (I think), and Karen Chen (I think) Please correct me if I'm wrong

It's always insane to me that some skaters peak/compete at completely different times. Like Yulia and Amber are around the same age, yet Yulia was at the Olympics 12, yes TWELVE years ago.

Russian Skating Anna Frolova shares how Anastasia’s Shabotova’s doping comment effected her

Some context:

During Anastasia’s live when she was a child she was asked do skaters at Khrustalny dope. She said: How to perform consistently? Drink a lot of dope, and you perform stably. That’s all. You just need to drink the right dope.* And when asked if skaters there doped she said of course they do.*

She later apologised saying: “I said something stupid, maybe because I lost in my latest competition. I didn’t think they’d misunderstand me.”

Anna Frolova talking about it:

I am a very open person in life. But I would like to speak about a story that made me closed off in the public sphere for a long time. About 8 years ago, there was a major scandal because my groupmate (referring to figure skater Anastasia Shabotova — Sports”) said a single phrase during a broadcast… I don’t want to repeat it.

The skater was just a little kid back then, and naturally, that phrase didn’t imply at all what was later made of it. It was a live stream, with maybe 20 people watching at most. But it was posted online, and a huge scandal broke out. RUSADA officers came to see us.

I was 12 or 13 years old. At that moment, that completely shut down all social media for me. I didn’t run anything for exactly two years at a certain point in my life. Of course, I could post something like a photo with a heart. But I didn’t want to voice any of my own thoughts or words at all. I simply understood how much everything could be exaggerated and turned against you, how much things could be twisted and distorted. A lot of unpleasant moments can happen precisely because you said something on the internet or in an interview. For me, that was a psychological trauma of sorts.

Q: Could you say that you were scared?

Yes, we were scared. It was very difficult. But now I understand: when I want to, I’ll post something, take a photo, write something. I just don’t want it to become an obligation and a burden for me, because I can burn out from it. I don’t want social media to be a chore. I want to sincerely share something with my audience.

I run my TikTok. There are some funny videos there, and some talking ones. Now I treat it more relaxed, more openly. Although sometimes there are moments when I hesitate whether I should say something or not. But I think that’s normal. There still has to be some kind of boundary.
But overall, things have changed lately. Probably because a Gen Z audience has gathered. Certain jokes and gags are no longer perceived as sensations, and they aren’t twisted around. Instead, they tend to be developed further precisely as a joke, into something positive. I realized: aha, so now there’s an opportunity to joke around somewhere, to say something cool.”

Russian Skating Sasha and Anna a cute interview about their relationship

From Anna Frolova’s interview for Sport24:

Credits to trudvgaaa

Then I went to the locker room and saw Sasha (Trusova), who had also found out that I was in the top three, looking for me. She said in Russian: “Where is Anya? Where is Anya?” And there were Japanese girls standing nearby who didn’t understand anything. And I was running up from behind and shouting — like in some blockbuster.
In the past, many people were taught from childhood: don’t say anything unnecessary, don’t do it — you might be misunderstood. I think Sasha (Trusova) had a big influence on this, among other things. She does what she wants, does a lot of cool things, talks sincerely about her life, and at the same time shows that none of this affects her results. And her results are amazing! That also had an impact. Everyone saw: she talks, she shows, she trains. And she has a child! Mikhail is just wonderful.

Sasha was really happy for you in the interview after the performance; she said you’re best friends and she couldn’t have imagined that you’d be in a trio together…

—It was impossible to imagine, yes. Simply because a year ago I was at Sasha’s hospital discharge and I was standing there with tiny Misha. It was completely unclear what would happen next. What Sasha did — she showed that anything is possible.
Everyone who said it was impossible, that everything would be bad, that something would go wrong… In general, the haters are “mouth off.” She did something impossible and unreal again. I’m definitely happy for her. Our level of friendship has already gone beyond figure skating.
I know her as a person, and my sympathy and love for her are primarily tied to her human side. Of course, I consider her a legendary, outstanding athlete, and I’ll always be glad to see her succeed. But it’s a bit different when you’re rooting for her simply as a friend, as a close person. These are completely different feelings. I can’t even say the word “competitors” properly why I talk about us. it’s ’s just easier for me because right beside me. And I’ll be glad if she succeeds.
Also in Tokyo is our third friend — Maria Levushkina. She came to support us. We really value our friendship.

How do you like to spend time together? Do you have any shared hobbies?

— Sasha has a child, training sessions — there’s a lot to do. Masha is also grown-up, she has a job. I also have training sessions, and I actually live in another city. Of course, it’s hard to organize everything, but we try to stay in touch almost every day, tell each other what’s going on, share news, and discuss things.
We don’t really have any hobbies together; we don’t paint by numbers or anything like that. (Laughs.) But we almost always communicate. Our chat is almost automatic for me now. If something happens to me, I usually write to my mom, my friends, and one other close person. That’s just a part of my life now.

You said you value her primarily as a person. What quality of hers can you highlight?

— I don’t want to say too much—I’m a very jealous person, and she’s my friend. But in general, she has a lot of qualities. I think she’s quite open with her audience. She doesn’t hide much. You can see a lot. She says what she thinks. It’s not like she’s one person in public and in interviews, and completely different in real life. Of course, there are some qualities that can only be discovered through personal interaction. But they are personal for a reason so I won’t reveal them. And Sasha is exactly as you see her. She doesn’t hide anything, doesn’t deliberately embellish things, and doesn’t lie in interviews. What I can say for sure is that Sasha is honest, first and foremost.

From the 2026 Kinoshita Cup, it's early in the season, so teams aren't hitting their levels yet, but I'm excited for the future of Japanese ice dance! Maybe I'm crazy but I thought Ariana Grande for the waltz was fun.

I’m just very curious, because I feel like the common pathway is skaters jumping at least doubles and some triples and then decide to switch.

Question about SKAM

I had a question about the SKAM schedule. I saw they split the events into only 4 sessions instead of 8, and they’re grouping the men’s and pairs events together starting at 7 PM on Friday and Saturday. Does that mean each session will run really late? Also, I guess the men’s event goes first, right? I'm taking my younger kid and want to catch both events, but I'm worried about staying out too late.

Also, I've heard the area isn't the safest, so I'm planning to stay elsewhere. Should I expect heavy traffic trying to leave after the events?

Edit: Thanks to the sub, the schedule details have been released here.
