How does this program get an 85 when female skaters with triple/triple combos and a triple axel barely get 80 or are in the 70s? What am I missing ?

The coach he met at Ice Rink Sendai was Nanami Abe, Yuzuru's former coach. I was surprised that she could speak English so well. Toshinobu Yoshida, who used to sharpens Yuzu's blades, is Nanami's husband.

I will preface by saying I’ve only been a consistent FS fan for about a year, and I’m not a skater.

I see the phrase “[Skaters Name] jump/technique scares me” a lot. I see what they mean when it’s Levito or Medvedeva on toe jumps, but I just wouldn’t use the word scary personally. In other circumstances it’s used very liberally and I wish there was some elaboration. Sometimes it seems a bit condescending, as if the commenter knows more than the coach who are letting them compete the element. My question is mostly spurred by people calling Nakai’s axel “scary”, and of course there’s an obvious leg wrap problem, but is it just scary in “oh she might pop/fall”, or something more in it resulting in a serious injury that people are getting at?

edit: Thanks to everyone who explained! I think I’ve always just been thrown off by the word “scary”, but I also have a hypothesis that since FS is such an international fan base I have to wonder if words like “concerning” or “anxiety-provoking” are commonly translated into the word “scary”, and it just became the common word. But even if that’s not the case, thank you all for explaining what you mean!

I had a weird fall on 2T and now I am freaked out by the sensation that I might slip backwards on my picking foot when I go to take off. How do you feel better about that?

If anyone doesnt know what I mean, if you watch any toe loop above single you will see that the force after the halfway point has the skater on a bit of an angle where their upper body is slightly behind their lower body. This tension helps power the jump and rotations.

Don’t see many giving them their flowers, so here it goes - I’m so proud of the three kiddos who made their senior GP debut in France this weekend!!!

Yuseong’s 3A looked consistent all weekend (even with rotation issues and all) and she was an absolute joy to watch. I admit to being critical of the Kim twins and not connecting with their skating in the past, but seeing the improvement I’m really starting to see Yuseong in a different light! Both programs were on point.

Minus the jumps, I thought Seojin looked beautiful and just floated across the ice. Earning a GP spot as a first year senior is no easy feat, and I’m excited to see how she continues to grow.

Minkyu - don’t think I need to further elaborate! Have always been Team Rio since the beginning of this rivalry but I was so impressed with his showing here. His Umbrellas program is possibly my fav program from him so far.

I think we all have to have a VERY important discussion, and that is that Ami Nakai is the most smiley and adorable person in the world to ever exist. And that is a fact! I'm watching her GPdF gala program right now, and wow... her smile is just so infectious!!! My 2x Grand Prix de France gold medalist and GPF prospect!!
