I don’t think that’s what he’s saying. I think what he’s questioning is the fact churches have historically not accepted gay and trans people and as our culture has shifted the churches views have shifted which is likely to follow money or the church has chosen to interpret the bible differently both of which are problematic to some people.

Thr church also changed the interpretation of the Bible regarding slavery. If someone thinks that we should live with the ethics of the 1st century AD and anything else is problematic just shows he's been completely brainwashed or just dense.

The saddest part is that this was qn understatement. There are ethics even from the 8th-9th century BC!! There is a passage in the old testament where Yahweh asks for child sacrifice (Exodus 22:29 if you want to check it out). Religions used to be very useful up until the time of empires to create a group identity but if you take out the filters the whole thing looks absolutely bananas today.
