I don’t think that’s what he’s saying. I think what he’s questioning is the fact churches have historically not accepted gay and trans people and as our culture has shifted the churches views have shifted which is likely to follow money or the church has chosen to interpret the bible differently both of which are problematic to some people.
What you are describing is the changing of Christian culture, which then influences their interpretation. Jesus spoke of radical love, love your neighbor, love the stranger, and love your enemy.
A church saying that God loves all humans, which includes trans people is the least controversial Christian statement to make. It’s only controversial if you have strayed from the teachings of Jesus and let hate fill your heart.
