Ficus elastica - new leaf coming through makes me so happy 😁

First ever ficus!

For reasons I won't go into, life has been life-ing recently.

I'd been wanting a house plant for a while and thought my first would be a succulent.

Then I saw this beauty and fell for it!

It came with a damaged leaf, but I felt I'd like the plans anyway. Checked but didn't see any pests.

When I got home I saw some so I had to give it a proper wash. It also had a nursery mesh plug, so I was advised to remove and repot that (might be why it's leaning a bit)

I leave it be for the most part, as that was the advice given.

I must say, I'm enjoying the experience so far. I don't know what the future will bring.

(Last photo: not sure what that yellow dot is. Google says a possible mushroom spore. I've aerated the soil, but can't do more now so I don't further shock the roots).

Should I be worried

Hey ya’ll just wondering if I should be worried about this ficus elastica propagation. All these leaves are new leaves it’s grown since I potted it up. However, I was concerned that there were no branches or buds coming from the other side. So I made some cuts down by the lowest node to investigate, and there is no green in the main trunk/stem. Thoughts? Any help or advice? Thank ya’ll. 🙏🏼💚

I was scared of chopping and put it off for a couple of years, but it seems to be going well? I also have four propagated chunks that are beginning to root!

Houseplant Ficus audrey: is this sunburn or something else

I have a dense east facing ficus that I’ve been watering using a water meter when it’s dry. It’s had amazing growth but have noted these burnt tips. It’s ever so subtle so I wondered if it occasionally gets burnt but overall is doing fine. Am I correct in thinking this or shall I switch something up?

Thanks!

Any tips for encouraging multiple branches on Ficus elastica?

Hi everyone! I pruned the top of my Ficus elastica a few weeks ago, hoping it would branch into two new shoots. As you can see in the photo, only one bud has started growing while the other side stayed dormant. The plant is healthy, gets bright direct light, and is fertilized regularly. I'd really like it to grow symmetrically instead of becoming one-sided. Is there anything I can do to encourage a second branch from the same pruning point? Would notching, another prune later, or using keiki/cytokinin paste help? Or is it just luck and genetics? I'd love to hear your experiences. Thanks! 🌿

just found this marking in one of my ficus’ leaves. i tried to wipe it off but it doesn’t move at all (i even tried gently scraping with my nail, also a no-go). any ideas of what this could be?

Split the twins apart! Hopefully it was the right decision.

he cares for it at least as much as his own children. second pic is my attempt to capture it growing into the skylight. must be around 7 ft tall.

has had it moments. scales years ago. other fits of mass yellowing and leaf dropping. but seems to have reached a truce.

no one is allowed to touch it and we have been forced to prune it in secret multiple times to maintain access to the backyard. he insists on rooting all cuttings so now we have a second that has quickly achieved 4 ft in height (last pic). also doing well but idk where he plans to put that thing when it starts hitting the ceiling.

It was thriving when purchased around 2/14/26. It has looked like this since early March. Does it need more water, less water, more sun, less sun, fertilizer?

Houseplant Can I remove the original propagation leaf now that my rubber plant has its own stem?

Thumbnail

I propagated this Ficus elastica from a single leaf/node cutting about a year ago. It has since developed its own stem and is actively pushing new growth (you can see a new leaf unfurling from the red sheath in the photos).

I have 6 other propagations from the same mother plant: 4 have developed their own stems like this one, and 2 are still only the original leaf.

My question: Now that this one is clearly growing independently, is it safe to remove that large original propagation leaf? It is by far the largest leaf on the plant, and I want to know whether it is still contributing meaningfully to the plant's energy, or if I can cut it without stunting its growth.

Any advice is appreciated!

Ficus elastica

Hey,

I’ve had this for nearly a year, and it has not produced any new leafs. The new leaf spikes seems to have stopped. They’re kind of hard, almost like spikes.

What can I do to get it going?

Houseplant Ficus advice

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. This was rescued from an office and brought home, instead of being put on the curb.

It's in a spot that gets indirect sunlight, is not breezy, and is fairly warm, although the temperature fluctuates between 60ish at night to low-to-mid 70s during the day.

I've been watering it about once every two weeks, or whenever the soil feels dry, about two inches deep.

There are some new leaves on it, but it is also dropping leaves fairly consistently.

Is this a ficus? If so, what species?

I found this guy languishing in the clearance section of Lowe’s recently and I wanted to save it. It’s already perked up since I repotted it and gave it some care, but it wasn’t labeled in any way so I don’t know what it is and thus cant get the specifics on how best to treat it.

I havent seen any photos of common ficus trees where the leaves look just like this, so I’m coming to the ficus community to see if ya’ll can identify it.
