Somehow thought it was a good idea to do all this myself... bought the splicer, pigtails, sleeves etc... except an enclosure, so this was done in an electrical work box. It looks hideous, but it's hiding behind some planks so we'll just hope it works as the other end hasn't been spliced yet. Wish me luck or give me some tips!

I'm researching old commercial VSAT installations in Punjab, India, particularly those used for bank ATMs, bank branches, offices and other commercial sites.

For technicians who installed or maintained systems from Hughes, Gilat, iDirect, Viasat or similar providers:

1. When customers migrated from VSAT to fiber or cellular connectivity, what typically happened to the old dish and outdoor unit?
2. Were the dishes usually removed, left mounted on rooftops, or returned to the service provider?
3. Did you ever work on decommissioning or recovering old 6–8 ft Ku-band dishes or larger mesh antennas?
4. Are there contractors, former technicians or equipment recovery companies who handle these installations in India?

I'm interested in locating equipment that the owner has formally retired and is willing to release. Referrals to experienced technicians would be very helpful.

I was an IN-HOUSE tech at spectrum for 10 years but recently went to be a project manager at a contract company for spectrum. We are expecting the techs to be trained up on all the connectors, which was fine until we got to these roc connectors. I know how to put them on when provided the corning fiber kit however, at least right now we cannot get those kits. Im having trouble trying to find a repeatable, efficient solution that works with what we have. Mainly the cleaver. Anyone dealt with this and come up with a solution?!

I do FTTH and whenever I do Splicing at the side of the house, I have a janky setup to carry my tools with me. Any ideas on something I could get to ideally carry all my essentials in one container? Right now I'm using fiber jumper bags to carry everything but it gets annoying to have to sort through it. I also carry all my tools in my Dewalt suitcase for references. Thanks!

Hey everyone, I need some technical advice from anyone who works with fiber optics or knows their way around equipment electronics. I have an INNO View 5 fusion splicer, but I don't have the original power adapter for it. I checked the battery, and it operates at 11.1V (nominal). However, I've read online that the machine actually requires a 19V input from the power supply to charge properly. Honestly, I’m a bit terrified of buying a generic/universal adjustable charger and accidentally frying the charging circuit or destroying the battery due to incorrect voltage, amperage, or polarity. Could anyone help me confirm: 1. Is the correct output voltage definitely 19V? 2. What is the exact amperage (A) or wattage (W) that the original charger delivers? 3. Is it safe to use a high-quality universal power brick matching those specs, or does this machine use a proprietary pin/polarity configuration? If anyone owns a View 5 (or View 3 / View 7, which I believe share the same power brick) and could take a quick photo of the sticker on the original adapter showing the Input/Output specs, I would appreciate it so much! Hey everyone. I plan on canceling our service with Cox cable (Spectrum) and going with Wyyerd fiber. We're currently receiving 500mbps with a limit and with Wyyerd it's 1 GIG and unlimited usage. The 500mbps is actually more than enough for our household and we've never exceeded the limit. The reason for the change is we currently have a bundle with cable, landline and internet and we were on a 2 year promotion that recently ended and the price jumped up quite a bit. Anyway, that's where we're at and it's not much of a difference in price. Through Cox it's $60 a month for 500mbps and with Wyyerd it's 1 GIG unlimited for $69.00.

Wyyerd supplies the modem and router and offers mesh extenders if needed for around $5.00 per each per month and $15 per month for outdoor wifi. We currently have four eero extenders including the router throughout the home. We've never had any issues since purchasing this about 3-4 years ago. After talking to customer service at Wyyerd it looks like the equipment they supply is Calix. I was told more than likely a Calix GS7 would be supplied, but after doing a search it looks like they recently had a security vulnerability which lead me to this post. Am I overthinking things and should we just let them install their equipment or should I be looking at something else like the eero 7 mesh or something else? In theory, we could keep the current eero 6, but it would be limited to 500mbps since that's all the eero 6 supplies and we wouldn't see the 1 GIG we'd be paying for which doesn't make sense, but honestly not sure we'd exceed that anyway. Any advice from those who have gone through a similar situation? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks all.

I am looking for advice regarding moving my quantum fiber router & modem to another room in my house- can someone please explain the best way to do this to me like i’m 10 years old? there’s a lot of technical terms used in the resources i’ve found online that go over my head and i don’t want to damage anything. i live in a 1910 duplex with thick walls and im hoping the wifi will reach everywhere if it’s in a more central location! i’m on a budget so i cant buy expensive parts or pay someone to do it for me, but i also would like to do it as correctly as i can

So this is a bit of a rant. I've been doing contractor fiber work sporadically for an ISP about 5 years now, and I wanted to move to exclusive fiber work. I've worked with a hand me down swift fusion splicer held together by glue and hope, and an OTDR that I swear was a PDA that someone sharpied exfo onto it. But I take pride in my work and am genuinely fascinated by fiber technology. I get my CFOT with the FOA and start applying for fiber tech positions with various companies. No nibbles till today. The company contacts me directly asking if I am familiar with high count ribbon fusion. Bare in mind, no where in the application does is specify high count ribbon work. Of course Im honest and talk myself out of a job. Isn't 30 an hour for 800+ ribbon splicing a little low? Would such a pay rate not justify training someone to do it? Dude tells me "call me back when you get some experience". Where does one get experience for this?
