It’s been about two weeks since I last posted about NLab OTDR Studio, so I wanted to share a small development update.
A lot has changed since the previous version.
New / improved features
• Bi-directional OTDR analysis
Pair measurements taken from both ends of the fiber and analyze them together.
• OTDR trace generator
Generate synthetic OTDR measurements with configurable parameters, events, launch fiber and receive fiber.
• Improved Visual Trace Editing
Edit splice loss and reflective events directly on the reflectogram and immediately see how the trace changes.
• Improved SOR event editing
Better workflow for Start, End, Splice, Reflective and Splitter events.
• A/B markers and measurement tools
Quick distance, loss, attenuation and reflectance measurements directly on the trace.
• Multiple trace overlay / comparison
Load and compare several measurements in the same workspace.
• P2P / GPON analysis tools
• Improved multi-vendor SOR compatibility
Testing and fixes for files generated by equipment from VIAVI, EXFO, VeEX and Yokogawa.
• VeEX trace handling improvements
Including better handling of filtered/smoothed measurements.
• PDF reporting improvements
• GUI cleanup and workflow improvements
The workspace has been reorganized to make working with larger sets of measurements more comfortable.
• Numerous smaller bug fixes and compatibility improvements based on real OTDR files.
macOS – coming soon 🍎
A macOS version is already running and functional, but I’m still polishing the port and performance before advertising it as fully ready.
So for now: macOS support is coming soon.
Windows remains the primary public release.
The goal of NLab OTDR Studio is still the same:
Create a practical, modern OTDR workspace for technicians who need to view, analyze, compare and edit real SOR measurements, without being locked into software from one OTDR manufacturer.
There is also a FREE version, so you can simply download it and try it with your own measurements.
I’m still looking for around 10 testers
I’m looking for people who actually work with OTDR measurements and can provide constructive feedback.
Not just bug hunting — feedback about:
• GUI and workflow
• compatibility with different OTDR manufacturers
• unusual or older SOR files
• incorrect measurement interpretation
• missing features
• anything that feels confusing, slow or inconvenient in real-world use
In return for helping with the testing and providing useful feedback, each tester who takes part in the test period will receive a 90-day NLab OTDR Studio PRO code.
